1B Ike Davis joined the team and could help stabilize a position where the Yankees have been ravaged by injuries. He made his Yankees debut in the eighth inning on Tuesday night and drove in a run with a bases-loaded pinch-single, stayed in the game and struck out in the ninth. The Yankees signed him to a major league contract on Monday and selected him to the 25-man roster. First basemen Mark Teixera (right knee) and Chris Parmelee (right hamstring) are on the disabled list and Dustin Ackley and Greg Byrd are out all season after shoulder surgery. The Yankees have been using Rob Refsnyder, a second baseman, at first base. Referring to Davis, manager Joe Girardi said, "We're going to play him against right-handers, and we'll go from there. Ref's done a good job and we've asked a lot of Ref." Girardi, asked about the appeal of Davis, said, "He understands the position. He's a left-handed bat, Ike's played in New York, so he understands that part of it. It was someone we were interested in before in the offseason."

The Oakland A's transferred first baseman Ike Davis to the 60-day disabled list Saturday after an MRI revealed he will need season-ending labrum surgery, according to CSN Bay Area. Davis, who missed more than a month earlier in the season with a quadriceps injury, had missed five of the last seven games before going on the disabled list earlier this week. Manager Bob Melvin said Davis experienced persistent discomfort while performing baseball activities prior to the diagnosis. "We took a while to get him back [from the quad injury]," Melvin told ESPN on Friday. "I thought once we got him back, he was over that hurdle. I guess it got progressively worse, and he wasn't saying a whole lot about it. Recently, the last couple weeks, it got to where he wasn't comfortable either swinging or running. It came to a head then, but it just wasn't getting any better, and the MRI revealed he needed to have surgery."

Davis (hip) will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum , Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Davis had a difficult first season as a member of A's, putting together a .229/.301/.350 slash line over 239 plate appearances. It's unknown when the injury itself occurred, but he was sparingly in the lineup over the last month. Mark Canha and Stephen Vogt figure to take over most of the first base duties with Davis sidelined for the remainder of the year. Davis was on a one-year deal with the A's before the injury, so it remains to be seen where he'll wind up when spring training opens in 2016.

Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left hip.
Davis missed Tuesday's game and five of the last seven contests, though it was likely the case of being outperformed by Mark Canha of late. It appears a hip issue may have played into it as well, and he'll now take an extended rest, and will be eligible to return in early September. The Athletics recalled Jake Smolinski in a corresponding move.

Davis remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.
Davis will take a seat for the fifth straight game, with Mark Canha replacing him at first in each of those contests. No word of an injury has surfaced, so it's likely his extended absence is performance related. Davis has followed up a .152 July batting average by going 6-for-33 at the plate in August, and has homered just once since the All-Star break.
