Tue Feb 2021:40Thaddeus Young Officially Signs With Phoenix
Free-agent forward Thaddeus Young officially agreed to a contract with Phoenix. The 35-year-old was traded to Brooklyn ahead of the deadline but was eventually waived. He has suited up for seven teams throughout his career, most recently averaging 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 23 games with Toronto this season. Although those numbers weren't the best for fantasy purposes, Young was much more productive in his six starts. He'll likely get a few chances to roll with the first five while in Phoenix. However, he's not worth much to fantasy managers at the moment, although there could be streaming opportunities at some point moving ahead. Yet, Young's presence could at least mean fewer minutes for guys like Drew Eubanks, Bol Bol, and Royce O'Neale, three players who already need to scratch and claw for playing time.

Tue Jan 922:19Thaddeus Young Moves Into Starting Five
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young will move into the starting five ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. This is a surprising move considering Young has played a total of 34 minutes in eight appearances this season. The Raptors are going to be without Jakob Poeltl (ankle) for at least two weeks. That means, Chris Boucher and apparently Young are going to play bigger roles in the rotation. Young is starting, but Boucher is the much more trustworthy streaming option between the two.

Tue Nov 21 202309:16Thaddeus Young Listed As Doubtful Tuesday
Toronto Raptors forward/center Thaddeus Young (illness) is considered doubtful for Tuesday's meeting with Orlando. The veteran has missed the past two games with an illness and still isn't feeling 100 percent. In his 17th year in the league, Young has mostly taken up a mentorship role on the Raptors team, appearing in only three games and logging just a handful of minutes. His absence doesn't impact fantasy basketball in any way.

Thu Apr 6 202310:48Time To Hang It Up: Five NBA Players That Should Retire After The Season
Basketball is a fast-paced game. While the court's dimensions are smaller than baseball and football fields, there is no room to relax because players must exert effort on offense and defense. NBA's Advanced Stats reveal that LaMelo Ball trumps other ballers in the distance covered, averaging 2.77 miles per game. Fred VanVleet is not far behind at 2.76.Therefore, basketball players must be in good condition to render significant minutes. Conversely, injuries are also a dime a dozen because of the extensive regular season. Failing to stay in shape could mean reduced playing time or an abrupt end to their career. But at some point, Father Time wins, no matter how much a player wants to delay the inevitable. These players have rendered extensive NBA careers but are far from the peak of their capabilities. Sadly, retirement after the 2022-23 season is a strong possibility because they are not steady contributors anymore or hardly step into the court. However, their younger teammates should pick their brains and learn from their limitless wisdom.

Thaddeus Young

Young won the NBA Hustle Award during the 2020-21 season thanks to his accumulated hustle stats like taking screens and diving for loose balls. But that recognition is a nice consolation for a man who nearly averaged a double-double (15.1 points, nine rebounds) for the 2015-16 season with the Brooklyn Nets.https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1612227070108516355The 16-year veteran has been touted as a do-it-all player on both ends. Unfortunately, his production has significantly dropped in his second season with the Toronto Raptors. He is averaging only 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game through March 11. He hasn't played since, even if he is on the active roster, because of ... [More]

LeBron James Injury Update

James injured his right foot during the third quarter of Sunday's comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks. It was a tense few seconds after the multi-time MVP clutched his foot after suffering what was deemed a "non-contact injury." The concern grew to greater heights after he was overheard saying, "I heard a pop." Situations like this are never good, as many were concerned that an Achilles tear could be the culprit.https://twitter.com/FanDuelTV/status/1630602449227595777?s=20Yet, after James gathered himself, he tightened his shoe and finished the game, totaling 26 points, eight rebounds, one block, and one steal. Head coach Darvin Ham appeared optimistic while speaking postgame, stating the 38-year-old was "good."However, that couldn't be further from the case, with The Athletic's Shams Charania reporting that James would "miss an extended period of time" because of the foot injury. Charania later added that the all-time scoring leader would "require multiple opinions."https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1630363560051187712?s=20

LeBron James' Season Recap

Despite James' advanced NBA age, he's still productive. In 47 appearances, he's averaged 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists. While his three-point percentage has regressed, that's never been his strong suit.James was also named an All-Star captain while recently passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time scoring leader.https://twitter.com/NBAonTNT/status/1623184801284104192?s=20That said, despite some high-level accomplishments, the year has been a rough one for the 2003 No. 1 overall pick. He's battled left foot soreness for nearly the entire season, so much so that he routinely carried some type of injury designation heading into almost all of his games over the last few months.... Thu Feb 23 202311:07Thaddeus Young Questionable On Thursday Versus Pelicans
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young (knee) is listed as questionable on Thursday due to a left knee sprain. The former lottery pick has seen his minutes fluctuate a lot this season and has taken on a lesser role with Jakob Poeltl entering the mix. Head coach Nick Nurse did say earlier this week that he expected Young to play on Thursday, so managers that might need him should just check back for updates leading up to tipoff. It's not recommended to start Young in any fantasy format right now though.

Tue Feb 7 202307:15Kyrie Irving Traded To Dallas - Fantasy Basketball Impact
Without a doubt, Kyrie Irving is arguably one of the most naturally gifted players in the National Basketball Association. He's a fantastic ball-handler and can get to the rim with ease. However, the former Duke Blue Devil's career has been surrounded by controversy, ultimately impacting his ability to win an MVP.The NBA trade deadline kicked off with a bang when Irving, who had demanded a trade out of Brooklyn, was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. NBA fans and fantasy managers are left wondering how things will play out.To keep close tabs on all of the news across the NBA, make sure to favorite or bookmark the RotoBaller Fantasy Basketball Newspage, or download the free RotoBaller fantasy basketball mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news.

Kyrie Irving's Season Recap

Irving got suspended for an antisemitic social media post, keeping him out of the lineup for eight games. But since then, the 30-year-old stayed out of the limelight, so most had assumed he finally turned things around. He's played well all season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 40 appearances.https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1622324668047794177?s=20&t=NTffJ2tRvNpjAA7bddjYHQHe was also selected to the All-Star team for the eighth time in his career. However, things were apparently going too well, as Irving dropped a bombshell by requesting a trade. His wish was granted, as he was sent to Dallas in exchange for ... [More]

Marcus Smart Injury Update

The Celtics were without Jayson Tatum for Saturday's meeting with Toronto, as the MVP candidate got the day off to deal with wrist soreness. Luckily, the C's recently got Jaylen Brown back from a three-game layoff, so the team at least had its No. 2 scoring option. Boston also had Marcus Smart, who is proficient on both ends of the floor.Unfortunately, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year's evening didn't last long, as he exited in the first half after suffering a sprained right ankle. Smart has battled ankle injuries throughout his career, so fantasy managers are familiar with this.https://twitter.com/ChrisForsberg_/status/1616933981362028546?s=20&t=ADA6dM_t2muMcgq6cJRitwWhile X-ray results were encouraging, revealing no structural damage, he'll likely miss a game or two, possibly more. Wed Dec 14 202219:11Thaddeus Young Enters Starting Lineup Wednesday
The Toronto Raptors have decided to start Thaddeus Young Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings. The Raptors seem to have felt Domantas Sabonis would be too much for rookie center Christian Koloko and moved him to the second unit. In eight starts this year, Young has produced 9.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 27.4 minutes per game. With OG Anunoby (hip) out for at least the next week, Young could be a valuable streaming option.

Sat Nov 12 202218:52Thaddeus Young Gets The Starting Nod
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young will move into the starting five for Saturday's game against the Indiana Pacers. Head coach Nick Nurse has decided to shake up his lineup with rookie Christian Koloko struggling right now. Young has proven to be fairly productive when he does play. The Raptors could also use Young's boost in offense with Fred VanVleet (illness) on the sideline. Fantasy managers who are looking for a streaming option on Saturday should take a look at Young. He should get a fairly decent amount of playing time.

Mon Apr 18 202219:11Thaddeus Young Is Available For Game 2
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young (thumb) will play during Monday's Game 2 contest against the Philadelphia 76ers. The veteran forward was forced out of action early during Game 1 due to a left thumb issue. It sounds like he'll play through the pain here. He could see more minutes than normal with Scottie Barnes (ankle) sidelined. However, Young is a shaky DFS option and fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for production.

Sun Apr 17 202214:16Thaddeus Young Unlikely To Play In Game 2
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young (thumb) is unlikely to suit up for Game 2 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. He was forced to exit early during Game 1 due to a sprained left thumb. The veteran forward will undergo an MRI, so those results should be known later in the day. Fantasy managers should have better information on Sunday night or possibly Monday morning. Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa could be asked to pick up the slack, assuming Young misses time.

Fri Mar 4 202218:02Thaddeus Young Returns To Action Friday
Toronto Raptors power forward/center Thaddeus Young (illness) has been cleared to suit up for Friday's game against Orlando, getting back in the mix following a one-game absence. Young has averaged 8.5 points and 3.7 boards across 19.1 minutes per outing in six contests since joining the Raptors. His limited playing time off the bench caps his fantasy intrigue, but his presence likely knocks Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa from DFS appeal in their own right. Young has scored in double figures in four of his last six appearances, but he has not recorded double-digit shot attempts since Nov. 16 while with San Antonio, a sign of his capped offensive upside.

Thu Mar 3 202218:15Thaddeus Young Will Miss Thursday’s Game
Toronto Raptors power forward/center Thaddeus Young (illness) has been ruled out for Thursday's contest vs. the Pistons. Young has proven to be a solid bench contributor since arriving in Toronto, averaging 8.5 points and 3.7 boards per game, all while shooting 51.2 percent overall. His absence -- in addition to those of Fred VanVleet (knee) and OG Anunoby (finger) -- likely funnels a larger role toward the frontcourt group of Pascal Siakam, Chris Boucher, and Precious Achiuwa. Young's 6.5 PPG and 15.1 minutes per game averages on the season are on pace for the lowest of his career, likely making him a waiver wire commodity down the stretch of 2021-22.

Thu Mar 3 202215:28Thaddeus Young Might Sit Thursday
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young (illness) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Detroit Pistons. This is frustrating news with OG Anunoby (finger) already ruled out for this contest. Now, Chris Boucher, Khem Birch and Precious Achiuwa should all see bigger roles, assuming Young sits out. Achiuwa posted a dud last time out, but does have decent upside. Boucher has put together some success this season and could be a low-end streaming option with extended minutes.

Sat Feb 12 202218:00Fred VanVleet, Thaddeus Young Cleared To Play Saturday
Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet (groin) and small/power forward Thaddeus Young (trade) have been given the green light to take the floor for Saturday's game against the Nuggets. VanVleet missed just one outing due to the groin ailment, with his return taking some of the DFS shine from Gary Trent Jr., who went for 42 points in VanVleet's absence. Toronto's offensive lynchpin has hit multiple triples in 27 straight games, averaging 4.7 made threes at a 40.3 percent clip in that span. Young's role among the second unit is unclear, although the veteran figures to snag a handful of minutes. Having played a combined 47 minutes since the calendar flipped, Young is likely to be eased into the Raptors' rotation.

Fri Feb 11 202221:49Thaddeus Young Expected To Play On Saturday
Toronto Raptors forward Thaddeus Young is expected to make his team debut on Saturday versus the Denver Nuggets. He was dealt to the Raptors at the trade deadline for guard Goran Dragic. The San Antonio Spurs were hardly using Young in their rotation, so this move should be good for his fantasy value. However, it's unclear how head coach Nick Nurse plans to work Young into the rotation. There should be minutes available for him with the second unit. Fantasy managers should monitor Young and see if he can carve out a role for himself in Toronto.

Thu Feb 10 202218:38Thaddeus Young Lands With Raptors At Trade Deadline
San Antonio Spurs small/power forward Thaddeus Young has reportedly been dealt to the Toronto Raptors during Thursday's trade deadline, giving him an opportunity to crack a rotation with regularity. Young played a career-low 14.2 minutes across 26 outings (one start) for the Spurs this year, averaging 6.1 points, 3.6 boards and 2.3 assists per game. He figures to be a contributor among the Raptors second unit, although whether or not he garners enough minutes for season-long viability remains unclear. Young is set to become a free agent at season's end.
