Reese Havens has announced his retirement from baseball.

The Mets are expected to remove Reese Havens and Darin Gorski from their 40-man roster.

Tue Mar 26 201319:56Blue Jays 'poking around' on Reese Havens
The New York Daily News' Andy Martino hears that the Blue Jays have "been poking around" on Reese Havens.
The Mets are trying to clear some 40-man roster space and are shopping a host of players, including Havens, Gonzalez Germen, Darin Gorski, Juan Lagares, Cesar Puello, Elvin Ramirez and Hansel Robles. Havens has a chronic back injury and batted .215/.340/.351 at Double-A last season, so it won't take much to get him.

Fri Feb 15 201319:37Havens confident after healthy offseason
Former first-round pick Reese Havens is confident heading into spring training this season, after remaining healthy and participating in a quality offseason training program.
The injury-riddled Havens hit a disappointing .215/.340/.351 with 10 homers at Double-A Binghamton in 2012, but could open the season at the Triple-A level. If he can manage to stay healthy, the once-promising pedigree is still there and it's possible he could compete for a utility role in the future.

Wed Feb 29 201211:37Mets' Havens nursing back stiffness
Mets' prospect second baseman Reese Havens is being held out of workouts due to back stiffness.
Same old, same old. Havens, now 25 years old, clearly has the talent to be a useful contributor at the big league level, but a laundry list of injuries have held him back from making an impact. The Mets just can't count on the 2008 first-round pick to stay healthy.

Thu Mar 24 201113:09Havens likely sidelined for start of season
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York writes that Mets second base prospect Reese Havens (rib, oblique) likely won't begin the season with Double-A Binghamton.
Havens is still idle after undergoing surgery during the offseason to remove an inch of a rib. The 24-year-old is probably the best internal option for second base, but he has been slowed by persistent oblique injuries. The former 2008 first-round pick was limited to just 32 games between Class A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton last season.

Mon Feb 14 201110:24Havens underwent rib surgery
Mets prospect second baseman Reese Havens said Monday that he underwent rib surgery eight weeks ago.
The procedure shaved an inch off a rib that was rubbing against another rib on his left side and also irritating his oblique. "I'm finally starting to feel like a baseball player again. ... I'm getting close," said Havens. "I'll be ready for spring training." Havens, who was selected 22nd overall in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, was limited to just 32 games between Class A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton last season due to oblique issues. The 24-year-old could still have a promising future in the organization if he's finally healthy.

Thu Sep 16 201010:10Mets' Havens may need back surgery
According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that Mets' prospect second baseman Reese Havens may need back surgery.
Havens has been limited to just 32 games this season due to ailing oblique muscles. Surgery sounds like an odd course of treatment for such an injury, but there could be more going on than the Mets have disclosed to this point. Havens, a former 2008 first-round pick, still has the talent to be long-term solution at second base, however he has to prove he can stay healthy first.
