Sat Sep 29 201209:45Al Thornton signs w/ Zhejiang Lions
Al Thornton has signed with the Zhejiang Lions in China.
Thornton had drawn some interest from the Nets, Clippers, Suns and Magic, but wasn't likely to earn a guaranteed contract in the NBA. Wilson Chandler averaged 26.6 points in 32 games for the Lions during the 2011-12 season, and Thornton should have similar success -- he's a natural scorer, and the flaws in his game won't be as glaring in the CBA.

Sat Jun 30 201211:36Al Thornton to play for Nets in Summer League
Al Thornton, who signed with a team in Puerto Rico last February, will play for the Nets in the Orlando Summer League.
Thornton averaged 16.8 points for the Clippers in 2008-09, and his career averages of 45.2 percent FGs and 74.7 percent FTs aren't too shabby, but he's obviously fallen out of favor with league executives. Fantasy owners can safely ignore him, even if he does make an NBA roster this year.

Sun Feb 19 201212:45Al Thornton signs w/ team in Puerto Rico
Al Thornton has signed with the Puerto Rican team Brujos de Guayama.
Thornton recently worked out for the Clippers and Suns, but obviously couldn't convince them to sign him. He's averaged 11.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in his NBA career, and will likely return to the Association sooner or later.

Sat Feb 18 201210:13Clippers, Suns hold workouts for SG/SF
The Clippers and Suns have recently held private workouts for swingmen.
Michael Finley and Jermaine Taylor have worked out for both the Suns and Clippers, and the Clippers have also taken a look at Al Thornton and Bobby Simmons. Phoenix was simply surveying their options for later in the year, but L.A. seems interested in adding a backup SG behind Randy Foye.

Mon Dec 5 201114:56Al Thornton considering signing with Nuggets
Al Thornton is hopeful that he'll sign with the Nuggets.
"We'll see. Hopefully. We'll see," Thornton said when asked about his chances of agreeing to a deal with Denver. If he is signed, Thornton should act as depth off the bench on a depleted front line.

Al Thornton is considering playing in China and expects to make his decision "in a week or so."
During Friday's media blitz, David Stern said "We have players playing overseas risking an injury for a payday. It's very sad."

Sun Apr 3 201102:34Thornton nears double-double for the Ws
Al Thornton neared a double-double on Saturday, scoring 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 23 minutes off the bench.
While he hasn't done anything in the box score to justify fantasy attention, owners shouldn't sleep on him completely. Keith Smart loves the guy and just a few years back he scored 16.8 ppg for the Clippers. And while there's enough tape to show that he's not that same guy, stranger things have happened in April at Oracle Arena. Still, he's only worth a look in deep leagues right now.

Mon Mar 28 201109:43Al Thornton credited as boost to GSW bench
Warriors coach Keith Smart is quick to cite the addition of Al Thornton as a key reason for the recent improvement of Golden State's bench.
Since Thornton joined the Warriors the bench has gone from averaging 23.7 points to 29.2 points per game. Thornton has shown flashes of brilliance but failed to live up to expectations. He's making a good impression with his new team and for good reason. This may be his last chance.

Tue Mar 15 201101:54Al Thornton has big night for Warriors
Al Thornton came off the bench and hit 7-of-8 shots and 9-of-12 free throws for 23 points, three rebounds and an assist in Monday's loss.
We have no idea where this came from, but he's at least worth keeping an eye on. Odds are this is his best game of the season for the Warriors, so don't get too excited.

Wed Mar 9 201101:53Thornton jumps up in the rotation in GSW
Al Thornton played 19 minutes in Tuesday's game for his new Golden State team, and scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting with three rebounds and one assist.
He took a few minutes from Dorell Wright and left Reggie Williams (three minutes) out in the cold. He has a ways to go before we'll recommend him standard leagues, but he should be watched from afar as Keith Smart likes him and Dorell Wright is slumping.

Sat Mar 5 201102:10Thornton makes Warriors debut on Friday
Al Thornton made his Warriors debut on Friday, playing two minutes with a rebound and personal foul to his credit.
There isn't much room for him in the Warriors rotation, but beware that the rumor is that Keith Smart likes him and he could play some PF in a small lineup. A shoot-first, ask-second guy if there ever was one, he should simply be watched from afar at this time.

Thu Mar 3 201118:31Warriors officially dump Thornton
Warriors signed free agent F Al Thornton.
Thornton will get the prorated veteran's minimum for the rest of the year. Considering he has been essentially dumped by the Clippers and Wizards over the last year, Warriors fans shouldn't expect much. He's not a better option than Reggie Williams off the bench and Keith Smart loves to play his starters big minutes.

Wed Mar 2 201109:37Thornton gave back $400K to leave D.C.
Al Thornton gave back $400,000 so he could be released from the Wizards Tuesday.
This isn't quite the $6.2 million that Mike Bibby gave the Wizards to get out of town, but it's still significant. After clearing waivers, Thornton will reportedly sign with the Warriors, where he'll battle Reggie Williams for backup swingman minutes.

Tue Mar 1 201117:59Thornton expected to land in Golden State
Reports are already out suggesting that Al Thornton will land in Golden State after he clears waivers.
Thornton would likely take a reserve role with the Warriors behind Dorell Wright at the forward position. He should fight with Reggie Williams as the reserve scoring option off the bench but isn't likely to produce enough to merit owning.

Tue Mar 1 201117:19Al Thornton waived by Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards have waived forward Al Thornton.
The Wizards are justifying the move by saying there's a "logjam" at small forward. The truth is that Thornton has failed to live up to expectations. With the Wizards still in the rebuilding process they've probably seen enough and want to open things up for another young face.

Mon Feb 28 201122:57Thornton (ankle) inactive for Monday's game
Al Thornton (ankle) was inactive for Monday's game against the Bulls.
Flip Saunders said that he was healthy, but due to being out of practice he decided to hold Thornton out. If Thornton can get healthy, which is a big 'if' at this point, he could be somebody to watch among the injury-riddled wings in Washington.
Fri Feb 25 201118:33Al Thornton inactive on Friday
Al Thornton (ankle, finger) is inactive for Friday's game.
Thornton may have fallen out of the rotation even when healthy, as the arrival of Maurice Evans adds even more depth to Washington's wing rotation.

Wed Feb 23 201122:09Thornton plays, leaves early w/ ankle sprain
Al Thornton played through his finger injury on Wednesday and then played through an ankle sprain, but stayed in the game.
He'll likely be day-to-day with the injuries, but hasn't been playing enough to matter much lately.
Tue Feb 22 201123:57Thornton scores seven in 12 minutes
Al Thornton played just 12 minutes due to a finger injury and had seven points on 2-of-7 shooting.
He has no fantasy value, but could be worth a look if Rashard Lewis continues to have knee problems. Thornton is not healthy, as his finger injury is causing him problems and limiting his minutes.
Tue Feb 22 201117:59Al Thornton doubtful for Tuesday
Al Thornton isn't expected to play Tuesday due to his finger injury.
He might be needed in an emergency with Rashard Lewis limited by a sore knee, but Flip Saunders would prefer not to use him.
