Sergio Escalona has been suspended 50 games by MLB.
Escalona had some sort of involvement in the Miami-based Biogenesis clinic and is now done for the remainder of the 2013 season. The 29-year-old left-hander posted an ugly 6.60 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 15 innings this summer for the Astros' Double-A affiliate in Corpus Christi.

Sergio Escalona will not throw a scheduled bullpen session Friday after hyper-extending his left elbow while swinging a bat earlier in the week.
"We wanted to give it a day of rest," Astros manager Brad Mills said. "He's still going to go through some things on the other fields. He's not going to throw on the other fields. He'll do some bunting, but no hitting. As of right now, we're not concerned about it because he didn't hurt it while throwing." It sounds like the 'Stros are just being cautious here. Escalona figures to resume throwing before long and should have a bullpen spot locked up after posting a 2.93 ERA in 27 2/3 innings last year.

Escalona tripped over a glove in the outfield during Friday's batting practice but fortunately the X-rays came back negative. Over 27 2/3 innings Escalona posted a solid 2.93 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. He fanned 25 batters as well. Escalona's trip to the disabled list will allow for the callup of LHP Xavier Cedeno.

The good news is that X-rays on Escalona's ankle proved to be negative, but he was on crutches Friday and is not optimistic about returning this season. The lefty reliever suffered the injury when he tripped over a stray glove in the outfield during batting practice Friday.
