Sat Feb 16 201317:53Valdez to compete for reserve infielder role
With Ryan Theriot unlikely to return to the Giants for the 2013 season, Wilson Valdez is one of the leading candidates to take over his reserve middle infielder role.
Tony Abreu and Kensuke Tanaka have also been mentioned as candidates to fulfill that role. Valdez has been delayed in reporting to spring camp due to visa issues, and the longer he's away from the team could impact his chances at winning the position battle.

Wilson Valdez is starting in center field for the Reds Friday.
Valdez has played just six games in the outfield in his seven seasons, and he's never started a game in center. The Reds are desperate, though, with both Drew Stubbs (oblique) and Chris Heisey (groin) sidelined. We're expecting at least one of them to be placed on the DL soon.

Thu May 26 201101:46Valdez...improves to 1-0 in 19-inning game
Wilson Valdez had the most bizarre game of his career on Wednesday night, going 3-for-6 while picking up the win as the Phillies downed the Reds in 19 innings at home.
With the Phillies already having used Roy Halladay, Michael Stutes, Ryan Madson, Antonio Bastardo, Kyle Kendrick, J.C. Romero, David Herndon and Danys Baez (who threw 73 pitches in the longest relief outing of his career), manager Charlie Manuel called on his journeyman utility player to pitch the 19th inning. After getting Joey Votto to fly out 395 feet to dead center, he hit Scott Rolen with a pitch before getting both Jay Bruce and Carlos Fisher (yes, the Reds reliever) to fly out. The Phillies would finally end the game in the bottom half of the inning. Valdez was hitting roughly 90 on the radar gun, while showing some surprising movement on his fastball. Valdez is the first position player to earn a win since Colorado's Brent Mayne did so against the Braves on August 22, 2000. He now has as many wins as Chris Carpenter and one more win than John Danks. Baseball is a strange, strange sport.

Mon May 2 201111:29Valdez in major slump
Wilson Valdez has two hits in his last 24 at-bats.
Valdez got off to an excellent start offensively this season when he was tasked with the responsibility of filling in at second base for the injured Chase Utley. But the shine has worn off by now and the 32-year-old Valdez is sporting a poor .565 OPS on the season.

Thu Apr 7 201117:44Phillies' Valdez goes 4-for-4, plates three
Wilson Valdez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored Thursday in the rout of the Mets.
Probably the best offensive game of his career. Valdez had never had four hits in a game before, and he had driven in as many as three runs just twice. So far anyway, he's rewarded the Phillies for sticking with him over Luis Castillo.
