Marion has opted to retire from the NBA, ESPN.com reports.
Marion recently completed his 16th season as a professional, notching zero minutes during the loss to the Warriors in the NBA Finals. During his final campaign, he dealt with ankle and hip injuries, among other ailments, limiting him to 57 games (24 starts) and the worst output of his career by far. No matter, his prime included jam-packed game logs en route to four All-Star Games, two selections to the All-NBA Third Team, and an NBA Championship with the Mavericks in 2011.

Marion was brought to Cleveland to provide some championship experience (2010-11 with the Mavericks), but did not look like he had much in the tank by the end of the season. He does not have a contract for 2015-16, so we may have seen the last of the Matrix in the NBA.

Marion is dealing with a minor calf injury ahead of Game 2 on Sunday but he's still expected to play against the Warriors, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Marion's calf issue can probably be chalked up to the normal wear and tear of a long regular season followed by a deep run in the playoffs. Assuming he takes on his normal playoff-role thus far, he's not expected to see more than 10 minutes of action Sunday.

Coach David Blatt indicated that Marion would see an increased role in the Cavs' second round series, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports.
Marion was one of three players Blatt mentioned would see increased roles - Kendrick Perkins and Mike Miller were the other two - as the Cavaliers prepare to move forth without Kevin Love (shoulder). With J.R. Smith also suspended for the first two games of the second round, the Cavs will be shorthanded on the wing, which is likely where Miller and, to a lesser degree, Marion will fill in. Marion began the season as an integral part of the rotation, but his minutes began to taper off as the season wore on, and he played just one minute in the Cavs' first-round series against Boston.

Marion has played a total of one minute over the course of the first three playoff games against the Celtics.
Marion saw action throughout the regular season but it appears that he'll give way to a tighter rotation under coach David Blatt in the playoffs. Unless there's a rout in one of Cleveland's future games, expect the former UNLV standout to be stuck on the pine.

Marion (hip) will play in Sunday's game against the Magic, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Marion has been off the court since Feb. 12 but will make his long-awaited return against a lackluster Magic squad. It seems likely that the veteran will see limited minutes on the court as he works his way back into the swing of things.
Sun Mar 15 201511:59Marion (hip) could return for Sunday's game against Magic
Marion (hip) could return for Sunday's game against the Magic, Cleveland.com reports.
A left hip strain has kept Marion out of action for the past three weeks, but he's traveled with the team on its current, four-game road swing and may be in uniform Sunday. Marion, who will retire after this season, is not expected to be be a part of the regular rotation when he's cleared to play.
Thu Mar 12 201512:37Marion (hip) will not play Thursday against Spurs
Marion (hip) will not play Thursday against the Spurs, Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Marion returned to practice Monday for the first time in more than two weeks, but he intimated that he'll take his time in returning to game action. The Cavaliers have been rolling in his absence, so there is certainly no rush to get him back into the rotation. That said, the veteran should see limited, although valuable, minutes once he's fully healthy.

Marion (hip) returned to practice Monday for the first time in more than two weeks, ESPN reports. "Shawn is out on the court, which is a good sign," Cavaliers coach David Blatt said. "He's still not ready. He's definitely coming along in the process well."
The veteran is without a firm return timetable, but he could play as soon as Sunday. The Cavs are set to begin a four-game road trip Tuesday in Dallas, and Blatt said if Marion practices and responds well Wednesday, he could return against the Magic (Sunday) or Heat (Monday) at the end of the trip. Marion, who saw consistent minutes earlier in the season, could be in for a reduced role when he returns, particularly given the recent emergence of James Jones. Cleveland has been sticking with an eight or nine-man rotation on most nights, so Marion may be the odd man out. "His role is to be determined," Blatt said. "That's the best way to put it. The rotation has been good and the team has been playing well. We're anxious to get him back."
Tue Feb 24 201510:07Shawn Marion: (Hip) Out 2 Weeks
Marion has been diagnosed with a strained hip, and he will be out for the next two weeks, Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Marion hasn't reached 20 minutes in a game since Jan. 16, so his absence doesn't change much in the Cavs' rotation. Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and James Jones may benefit from a bit of added playing time.
