Mon Dec 5 202216:44T.J. McConnell, James Johnson Earn Questionable Tags Monday
Indiana Pacers point guard T.J. McConnell (illness) and power forward James Johnson (elbow) have been deemed questionable to play in Monday's game against the Warriors. McConnell would be in line for a sizable workload if cleared with Tyrese Haliburton (groin) -- the league's leading assists man -- down for the time being; if McConnell is held out, Andrew Nembhard would have sizable DFS appeal due to his low price tag and the Pacers' thin backcourt. McConnell has yet to draw a start this season but already has two double-digit assist games under his belt. Johnson has played sparingly as a reserve, averaging just 1.9 PPG. Fantasy managers will want to check back on McConnell's status prior to tip-off.

Thu Apr 7 202214:44James Johnson Waived By Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have waived veteran forward James Johnson. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the move was made in order for the team to convert the contract of forward Kessler Edwards to a standard contract ahead of the playoffs. Johnson had been sidelined for the team's last two games due to a non-COVID illness. He played in 62 games for the Nets this year, starting 10 of them. He averaged 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. We'll see if another team reaches out to him ahead of the 2021-22 playoffs.

Wed Apr 6 202218:25James Johnson Will Miss Wednesday’s Contest
Brooklyn Nets power forward James Johnson (illness) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Knicks. It marks Johnson's second consecutive absence due to an illness, which opens up more minutes and rebounding opportunities among the second unit for Nicolas Claxton and Kessler Edwards. More valued for his on-ball defense and savvy veteran play, Johnson isn't much of a fantasy commodity despite his consistent role. His next chance to return to action comes Friday vs. Cleveland.

Tue Dec 14 202113:16LaMarcus Aldridge, James Johnson Enter Safety Protocols
Brooklyn Nets center LaMarcus Aldridge and forward James Johnson have entered the league's health and safety protocols. That being said, both players will miss Tuesday's game alongside DeAndre Bembry, Jevon Carter, and Paul Millsap. Cam Thomas, Bruce Brown, Nicolas Claxton, and Day'Ron Sharpe should all benefit without these players unavailable. Brown could have a significant role in the offense with Kevin Durant (ankle) tagged as questionable. Fantasy managers should consider Brown as a streaming option for Tuesday's slate.

Sat Dec 4 202118:14James Johnson Questionable On Saturday
Brooklyn Nets forward James Johnson (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Chicago Bulls. He's a late addition to the injury report with left shoulder soreness. Bruce Brown and DeAndre' Bembry would be asked to step up if Johnson is out on Saturday. Brown is the better option between the two and could have some low-end DFS appeal for Saturday.

Mon Apr 12 202122:53JJ Redick makes Dallas debut against former team in 76ers
DALLAS (AP) — JJ Redick made his Dallas debut Monday night after being sidelined by a sore right heel since being acquired from New Orleans at the trade deadline. The veteran shooting guard returned against one of his former teams and former coaches in the Philadelphia 76ers and Doc Rivers, who had Redick for four of his seven seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Mavericks added Redick just before the deadline March 25, looking for a boost at the 3-point line as they try to climb into the top six in the Western Conference and avoid the play-in round for the playoffs. Redick entered late in the first quarter and missed two shots from inside the arc before hitting his first attempt from 3. He finished with four points, going 1 of 7 from the field and 1 of 3 from deep in Philadelphia's 113-95 victory. The 36-year-old Redick's last game for the Pelicans was March 3, when he scored 22 points despite going 1 of 5 from long range in a 128-124 loss to Chicago. The Mavericks also got Nicolo Melli in the deal, with Wesley Iwundu, James Johnson and a 2021 second-round pick going to New Orleans. Redick has averaged 12.9 points on 42% 3-point shooting over 15 seasons. He led the NBA at 48% shooting from long range in one of his seasons with the Clippers. This season Redick is averaging 8.7 points while shooting a career-low 36% from 3. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Thu Apr 1 202118:44Redick, Mavs eye playoffs as guard joins team after trade
JJ Redick doesn't have an ideal number of games in mind to get ready for the playoffs with the Dallas Mavericks, who were thinking postseason when they acquired the shooting guard with an expiring contract. “The ideal number is the most amount of games possible,” said Redick, who is recovering from a right heel injury that required an injection and last played March 3. “I’m a rhythm player and so I want to be in a good rhythm going into the playoffs.” The Mavericks made a deal just before the trading deadline March 25, getting Redick and Nicolo Melli from New Orleans for James Johnson, Wes Iwundu, a 2021 second-round draft pick and cash. Redick met his new teammates at practice in New York on Thursday, a day before the Mavericks play the Knicks on their season-long five-game road trip. Redick has joined the team presumably for good this season, but hasn't started practicing. There's no timetable for his Dallas debut. “My understanding is that things are going in a very good direction,”... [More]
Thu Mar 25 202120:22Trade deadline passes, and Kyle Lowry remains with Raptors
Kyle Lowry wound up staying with Toronto after all. Victor Oladipo is finally in Miami, a destination he's eyed in the past. And Rajon Rondo is headed back to Los Angeles, though not with the team he helped win the NBA title last season. The trade deadline has come and gone. And now, playoff pushes can really begin. Miami, Denver, the Clippers, Portland, Dallas, Boston and Atlanta were likely among the teams feeling convinced that they improved on deadline day after a flurry of moves Thursday, though the best player — at least this season — might have been landed by the Chicago Bulls. They got All-Star forward Nikola Vucevic from Orlando, a move that ushered in the start of a big-time rebuild by the Magic. “Anytime you trade a player like Nikola, it is a tough decision to make," Magic President Jeff Weltman said. Vucevic is the only player from this season's All-Star Game to be traded at the deadline. It was a steep price; Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu went to the Bulls for Otto Porter, Wendell... [More]

Thu Mar 25 202118:02Trade deadline passes, and Kyle Lowry remains with Raptors
Kyle Lowry stayed with the Toronto Raptors, and the Miami Heat got Victor Oladipo instead. And on a trade deadline day where moves were getting made right up until the last possible moment, the Denver Nuggets took a big swing at getting better for a playoff run while the Orlando Magic began a rebuild. Lowry — considered perhaps the biggest prize who was on the market — did not get traded, the Raptors apparently unable to find enough assets to their liking. Miami was one of the biggest pursuers for Lowry, who they may still target as a free agent later this year, and wound up adding Oladipo from the Houston Rockets. That move didn’t cost Miami much: Kelly Olynyk was on an expiring deal, and Avery Bradley has barely played for the Heat this season because of COVID-19 and then a calf injury. The deal also included a pick swap in 2022, a person with knowledge of the matter told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal needed league approval. Oladipo has wanted to be in... [More]

Thu Mar 25 202117:02AP source: Mavs get Redick, from Pelicans in 4-player deal
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks have acquired veteran shooting guard JJ Redick and Italian forward Nicolo Melli from New Orleans in a trade Thursday that sent power forward James Johnson, small forward Wesley Iwundu and a second-round draft choice to the Pelicans, a person familiar with the deal said. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced. The move gives the playoff-contending Mavericks veteran depth and a player in Redick who has been an elite 3-point shooter for most of his career. The 36-year-old Redick, now in his 15th season, is a 41.5% career 3-point shooter but has played only intermittently for New Orleans this season. He has appeared in 31 of the Pelicans' 43 games, averaging 8.7 points in a little less than 19 minutes per game. Melli, 30, is in his second NBA season and has played in 22 games, averaging two points and 2.6 rebounds in 11 minutes per game. Johnson, 34, is a 12th-year veteran who has averaged 5.7 points and three rebounds in 29 games this season, while the 26-year-old Iwundu has averaged 2.1 points in 23 games. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Fri Jan 1 202113:44NBA issues $85,000 in fines for Hornets-Mavericks dustup
NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA fined three players a total of $85,000 on Friday for their roles in a dustup during a game between Charlotte and Dallas. The Mavericks' James Johnson was fined $40,000. For the Hornets, Cody Martin lost $25,000 and Caleb Martin $20,000. The commotion happened with about 2:40 left in Wednesday's game, a 118-99 victory by Charlotte. The NBA said Johnson deliberately pushed Cody Martin out of bounds, “aggressively confronting him and initiating the incident." Cody Martin's fine was for pushing Johnson in retaliation and making contact with a game official. Caleb Martin was fined for entering the action and making contact with a referee. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Tue Nov 24 202021:02Wolves finalize deal with Knicks for veteran forward Davis
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired veteran forward Ed Davis from the New York Knicks for Jacob Evans III, Omari Spellman and a 2026 second-round draft pick in a trade finalized Tuesday. The 31-year-old Davis has played in 668 regular-season games, with 96 starts, for six NBA teams. He has averaged 6.3 points and 6.6 rebounds during his career. The 6-foot-9 Davis was drafted 13th overall in 2010 by the Toronto Raptors. He'll help fill an opening at power forward created by the departure of James Johnson in the draft-night deal that brought point guard Ricky Rubio back to the Timberwolves. Evans and Spellman played sparingly for Minnesota last season after coming with headliner D'Angelo Russell from Golden State in the trade that sent Andrew Wiggins to the Warriors. ___ More AP NBA coverage: https://apnews.com/NBA

Fri Jun 5 202020:45Another rough season ends with Wolves near bottom of league
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Another season of setback and tumult has mercifully ended for the Minnesota Timberwolves, this time in the strangest of ways after the NBA's decision to resume virus-halted play with 22 teams. The revelation of the makeshift plan immediately put the Timberwolves, who finished 19-45 for the third-worst record in the league, in offseason mode after nearly three months in limbo while the world wrestled with the COVID-19 pandemic and all NBA arenas went dark. There was no arguing from Minnesota, where the 18 games remaining on the original schedule before the shutdown would have had little benefit as long as star center Karl-Anthony Towns was sidelined with a wrist injury.“While we are disappointed for our team and our fans that our season is coming to an end, we understand and accept the league’s plan to move forward with 22 teams. It is important that we be a good teammate not only to the NBA, but to the other 29 teams to support the efforts to complete this season and prepare... [More]
Mon Feb 10 202017:23Surprising Grizzlies ahead of team's rebuilding schedule
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies' rebuilding plan is ahead of even the most optimistic schedule,They have won more games before the All-Star break than predicted and currently hold the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference standings.“We had high hopes for what this group could become, and I think it's fair to say that this group has already exceeded I think any realistic expectations that anyone had internally or externally,” Memphis general manager Zach Kleiman said Monday. Kleiman talked to reporters Monday for the first time since the trade deadline. The Grizzlies are 3-1 in February and have won 14 of their last 18 and are 27-26 overall — a game above what most sports books expected this season. It's a quick turnaround from just over a year ago when Memphis was breaking up the final pieces of a group that set a franchise record with seven straight playoff appearances that ended in 2017.The Grizzlies traded center Marc Gasol to Toronto. Then controlling owner Robert Pera shook... [More]
Thu Feb 6 202020:56Wolves send Wiggins to Warriors for Russell in scorer swap
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have taken on yet another new look, with D'Angelo Russell on his way to join pal Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins heading west to the Golden State Warriors. In a swap of high scorers consummated just a few hours before the NBA deadline on Thursday, the Timberwolves acquired the dynamic point guard they'd been seeking for awhile in Russell and pulled the plug on their development of Wiggins, the mercurial first overall pick of the 2014 draft. The deal also sent two little-used Golden State players, guard Jacob Evans and forward Omari Spellman, to the Timberwolves and routed two draft picks to the Warriors. They'll get Minnesota's first-rounder and second-rounder in 2021, unless the first-rounder is in the top three. Then it would roll over to 2022.That means the Timberwolves, who overturned half of their roster this week, will have two first-round picks this summer, their own that's likely to be in the top five and another one from Brooklyn...
