G Dionte Christmas was released by the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

G Dionte Christmas signed a free agent contract with Philadelphia. Christmas, 30, appeared in 31 games for the Phoenix Suns during the 2013-14 season, where he posted averages of two points and one rebound in seven minutes per game. He has seven seasons of experience internationally, most recently with Torku Konyaspor Basket of the Turkish Basketball Super League.

Cleveland forward LeBron James remains idle due to a sore back and there are doubts he will be ready when the Cavaliers open the NBA season on Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls.James hasn't practiced since Oct. 13, when he received an anti-inflammatory injection in his back. But the four-time MVP remains hopeful he will be on the court for the opener despite the fact he hasn't been cleared by the team's medical staff."If everything goes right," James told reporters in reference to whether he will play. "We feel like we're progressing really well and if we can continue to do that, then I'm optimistic that I'll be able to go." Meanwhile, Cleveland trimmed its roster to 16 by waiving the following four players: forward Austin Daye, guard/forward D.J. Stephens, guard Dionte Christmas and forward Jack Cooley.

Christmas will sign with the Cavliers, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Christmas saw NBA action in just one season (2013-14 with the Suns), playing in 31 games with the team. The 29-year-old will give the Cavaliers some depth in training camp, but it seems highly unlikely he will be able to earn a roster spot.

Christmas was waived by the Pelicans on Friday, The Arizona Republic reports.

Christmas only played in 31 games during his rookie campaign with Phoenix and was subsequently waived in the offseason. He was then picked up by the Pelicans for a training camp audition and that obviously didn't pan out either. The 28-year-old will search for another spot on an NBA roster, although he won't likely have much of a role if he does in fact get another opportunity.

Christmas did not play in New Orleans' first preseason game due to a sprained right ankle, the Times-Picayune reports.

The injury is unfortunate for Christmas, who already faced long odds of making the team out of training camp. He'll need to shine when he returns to the court in order to earn a spot on the final roster.

The 6-foot-5 guard appeared in 31 games with the Phoenix Suns last season but was waived during the offseason despite his non-guaranteed contract. Christmas averaged 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game at the Las Vegas Summer League, but remains a long shot to secure a spot on New Orleans' regular season roster.

Christmas has bounced around between the NBA and Euro-league play the past few seasons. He appeared in 27 games for the Suns last in 2013-2014, averaging only 2.3 points on 35.5 percent shooting. Considering he already has overseas experience, he may look to take his talents abroad if he does not earn a roster spot in the NBA.

Dionte Christmas shot 6-of-10 from the field for 14 points during Sunday's 69-59 win over the Heat, adding five boards, three assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes.

Last year he spent some time in Russia after being cut by the Celtics. Christmas was a star at Temple from 2005-09 and averaged at least 19.5 points in his last three seasons while also making 2.9 triples per game, as well. Obviously, there's a big difference from a solid outing in July and in the NBA, so Christmas is well off the fantasy radar.

Christmas will continue his career overseas with eyes on eventually returning to the NBA.

The Celtics must still pay Christmas $260k in guaranteed money, but he'll be free to workout for other NBA teams, or more likely head to the D-League. It's a bit surprising that he was beat out for the final roster spot by Kris Joseph, but the Celtics are stacked at SG and need depth behind Paul Pierce at SF.

There have now been a handful of reports claiming Christmas to be a favorite to win one roster spot up for grabs, and one major reason is because he has a large portion of his salary guaranteed. He's impressed with some things he's done in the preseason, and it would be a small surprise if Christmas wasn't on the team opening night.

Dionte Christmas is the "clear-cut favorite" to make the Celtics roster out of the players on non-guaranteed deals, according to CSNNE.com.

Christmas' contract calls for approximately half of his minimum salary to be guaranteed, so that's going to play a major role in the team's decision-making process considering the Celtics are hard-capped at $74.3 million. As things stand right now, it appears Christmas has a better chance of making the roster than second-round pick Kris Joseph.

Beat writer A. Sherrod Blakely believes Dionte Christmas has a "very good shot" to make the final roster.

Christmas was signed as a free agent after a strong showing at summer league, and he's looking to carve out a niche for himself in the league at the end of Boston's bench. He'll offer no fantasy value if he makes the team.

Jason Terry is helping Dionte Christmas transition to the NBA.

"Once we got to Boston, Jason told he me was going to look after me," Christmas said. "He wanted to see me be the best player I could be for Boston and be the best person I could be, period." The two have spent multiple hours in the gym together and Terry is helping Christmas with his shot and with his skills at the shooting guard position. While it's a nice gesture and will certainly help team chemistry, Christmas isn't on the fantasy radar.

Chris Forsberg of ESPN Boston believes Dionte Christmas has the "inside track" for the Celtics final roster spot.

Forsberg makes it clear that it's only his prediction, but the choice is going to come down to keeping either Christmas or Jamar Smith. Forsberg notes Christmas' versatility as well as a "well-rounded game," but also believes that he'll have to continue to impress during training camp to convince the Celtics to carry 15 players.

Christmas was offered a partially-guaranteed deal on the strength of his play at Summer League, where he averaged 14.2 points and made 45 percent of his 3-pointers. Even if the 6'5" SG manages to make Boston's regular season roster, he won't be worth owning in fantasyland.
