Ayres agreed to a deal to play in China on Friday, David Pick of Basketball Insiders reports.

Ayres spent the past two season with the Spurs glomming off their team success and sporadically tantalizing the league with his unique skill set and potential. Alas, he will head overseas for a cool $1 million payday, and he may return to the NBA late next year once the Chinese Basketball Association season concludes.

Ayres averaged 2.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.2 blocks, and 0.2 steals in eight minutes per game through 51 games in 2014-15.

At 28 years old, the five-year veteran will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Ayres was efficient in his limited minutes this season, shooting 58 percent from the field on 95 attempts and 75 percent from the free-throw line on 36 attempts. Though Ayres has played on three different teams in five seasons, he has provided spot starts and valuable bench minutes for the aging Spurs in the past two seasons. If he re-signs with the Spurs, Ayres should continue to supplement the paint from the bench.

Ayres came off the bench for eight minutes in Game 3 against the Clippers on Friday and finished with three rebounds and two assists.

Ayres has only played a total of 11 minutes through the first three games of the playoffs. This little amount of playing time results in lackluster value for Ayres in almost all postseason formats.

Ayres (personal) returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing two games, but played just six minutes and had two points and two rebounds.

This isn't unusual for Ayres, who has played six minutes in each of his past three games. On the season, he's averaging just 7.7 minutes per contest.

Ayres (personal) will be available against the Mavericks on Tuesday, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Ayres was originally ruled out of Tuesday's game for personal reasons but he apparently joined the team in Dallas and will assume his normal role off the bench for coach Greg Popovich. The 27-year-old is only averaging 7.8 minutes on the court this season, however, so he's not expected to see much playing time even though he's available moving forward.

Ayres is dealing with a personal matter and didn't join the Spurs on their current road trip, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Ayres missed Sunday's game against the Hawks and will not be with the team when they take on the Mavericks on Tuesday. His next opportunity to get back on the court will be against the Thunder on Wednesday.

Ayres recorded a season-high of 16 points (5-8 FG, 6-7 FT), while adding four rebounds and block in 17 minutes during Tuesday's loss to the Pistons.

Ayres has played in only 22 games this season and is averaging nine minutes per game over that stretch. He saw extended minutes Tuesday and capitalized with a new season-high in points. He may see more time on either Friday or Saturday due to Greg Popovich and his tendency to hold players out when they have games on back-to-back nights, but either way Ayres should continue to be fantasy irrelevant moving forward.

Ayres played 23 minutes against the Houston Rockets on Thursday. He managed to score six points (2-7 FG, 2-2 FT) and grab six rebounds with one turnover.

Ayres, the man formerly known as Jeff Pendergraph, certainly didn't make the most of his opportunity to play more on Thursday. He typically won't receive this many minutes on nights where Tim Duncan actually plays. Ignore him in all fantasy leagues.

Ayres was icing the injury after shootaround and it's been bothering him for about a week, but it's nearly irrelevant for fantasy owners given his season averages of 3.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.3 blocks.

The Spurs rolled over the hapless Bucks in San Antonio, and Ayres' lack of fantasy value should be clear enough from the phrases "season-high 13 points" and "just 15 minutes."

He just doesn't have the offensive game to warrant use in fantasy and we expect Gregg Popovich to mix and match his starting centers going forward, with Tiago Splitter out indefinitely.

Boris Diaw, who originally appeared to be the best bet for fantasy owners in the absence of Tiago Splitter (calf) came off the bench for nine points, four rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes, while the Spurs saw 12 players contribute in the laugher.

This could cause some confusion on fantasy draft night, as his name is still showing as Pendergraph in many places. But we're going to go ahead and make the change, and hopefully all sites will have it updated by the time the season rolls around. But unless you're in a very deep league, there's no reason to draft Jeff, regardless of what his last name is.

GM R.C. Buford said that Jeff Pendergraph can play power forward or center for the Spurs.

He's a very physical player," Buford said. "His skill set fits us. He's a good passer who can play four and five. All indications are he's an 18-foot jump shooter who just hasn't had a lot of opportunities." Pendergraph will have to battle for backup minutes with Boris Diaw, but with DeJuan Blair likely gone, the former Pacer could get a decent amount of minutes once Tim Duncan gets some rest.
