Thu Jan 416:18Ricky Rubio Announces Retirement After Buyout
Free-agent guard Ricky Rubio, who was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers via buyout on Thursday, has announced his retirement from the NBA. Rubio had not yet suited up for the Cavaliers in the 2023-24 campaign after stepping away from the game before training camp to focus on his mental health. In the second season of a three-year, $18.44 million deal, Rubio has decided to call it a career after 12 years of service in the Association. Drafted fifth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft, the 33-year-old floor general hangs up his sneakers with career averages of 10.8 points, 7.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals in 29.6 minutes per game over time also with the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. Rubio might not have been a prolific scorer, but his two-way skills have him ranked 11th among active players in assists (5,160) and 13th in steals (1,226).

Sat Aug 5 202309:07Ricky Rubio Announces He's Taking A Break From Basketball
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ricky Rubio has announced that he's taking a break from basketball for mental health reasons. The announcement comes just three weeks before Rubio was set to help Spain defend the World Cup crown. Rubio was the MVP of the last World Cup in 2019. "I have decided to stop my professional activity to take care of my mental health," Rubio said in a statement. Rubio, who turns 33 in October, still has two seasons left on a three-year contract he signed with the Cavaliers last summer. He returned from an ACL tear in 2022-23, recording 5.2 points and 3.5 assists in 17.2 minutes of action. The 12-year veteran should be considered out indefinitely by fantasy managers.

LeBron James Injury Update

James injured his right foot during the third quarter of Sunday's comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks. It was a tense few seconds after the multi-time MVP clutched his foot after suffering what was deemed a "non-contact injury." The concern grew to greater heights after he was overheard saying, "I heard a pop." Situations like this are never good, as many were concerned that an Achilles tear could be the culprit.https://twitter.com/FanDuelTV/status/1630602449227595777?s=20Yet, after James gathered himself, he tightened his shoe and finished the game, totaling 26 points, eight rebounds, one block, and one steal. Head coach Darvin Ham appeared optimistic while speaking postgame, stating the 38-year-old was "good."However, that couldn't be further from the case, with The Athletic's Shams Charania reporting that James would "miss an extended period of time" because of the foot injury. Charania later added that the all-time scoring leader would "require multiple opinions."https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1630363560051187712?s=20

LeBron James' Season Recap

Despite James' advanced NBA age, he's still productive. In 47 appearances, he's averaged 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists. While his three-point percentage has regressed, that's never been his strong suit.James was also named an All-Star captain while recently passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time scoring leader.https://twitter.com/NBAonTNT/status/1623184801284104192?s=20That said, despite some high-level accomplishments, the year has been a rough one for the 2003 No. 1 overall pick. He's battled left foot soreness for nearly the entire season, so much so that he routinely carried some type of injury designation heading into almost all of his games over the last few months.... Thu Feb 23 202310:24Ricky Rubio Ruled Out On Thursday Against Nuggets
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (injury management) has been ruled out in the first game back after the All-Star break due to left knee injury management. The Spaniard sat out of the team's last game against the Philadelphia 76ers with an illness at the time, so this game may have just been a planned rest day. While Rubio is sidelined, Caris LeVert should see some more usage while Raul Neto may see some more opportunities off of the bench.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (illness) will be sidelined for Wednesday's contest against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rubio is feeling under the weather and will not be able to go after being listed as questionable from a non-COVID illness. Wed Feb 15 202313:19Ricky Rubio Officially Questionable Against 76ers
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (illness) did not participate in shootaround on Wednesday and is still dealing with a non-COVID illness, which has landed him on the injury report as questionable. The 32-year-old seems to get a game off every few games while being eased back on to the court, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him get the night off before an extended break. If he does stay on the sidelines, look for Caris LeVert to take on more guard duties with the second unit.

Fri Feb 10 202320:38Ricky Rubio Getting The Night Off On Friday
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (knee) won't play on Friday night against New Orleans. The veteran had eight points and two steals in 16 minutes on Wednesday versus the Piston. However, with the Cavs going into a back-to-back, Rubio will sit out on Friday before likely returning for Saturday's matchup with the visiting Chicago Bulls. Nevertheless, with Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell both back in the lineup, Rubio probably wouldn't have gotten much work anyway.

Thu Feb 9 202321:14Ricky Rubio Unavailable For Friday
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (rest) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. He has appeared in five straight games, but he'll sit out their next contest due to injury management on his left knee. His absence shouldn't have a huge impact with Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland both healthy and active. Raul Neto and Caris LeVert should have increased roles off the bench with Rubio inactive on Friday.

Kyrie Irving's Season Recap

Irving got suspended for an antisemitic social media post, keeping him out of the lineup for eight games. But since then, the 30-year-old stayed out of the limelight, so most had assumed he finally turned things around. He's played well all season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 40 appearances.https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1622324668047794177?s=20&t=NTffJ2tRvNpjAA7bddjYHQHe was also selected to the All-Star team for the eighth time in his career. Mon Feb 6 202314:44Ricky Rubio Ruled Out For Monday
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (rest) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Washington Wizards. The 32-year-old played 20 minutes off the bench during Sunday's contest. That being said, the Cavs will take the cautious approach and rest Rubio considering he's still working his way back from an ACL injury. Raul Neto should serve as the backup guard without Rubio available. However, he probably won't do enough on the court to warrant streaming in most fantasy formats.

Marcus Smart Injury Update

The Celtics were without Jayson Tatum for Saturday's meeting with Toronto, as the MVP candidate got the day off to deal with wrist soreness. Boston also had Marcus Smart, who is proficient on both ends of the floor.Unfortunately, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year's evening didn't last long, as he exited in the first half after suffering a sprained right ankle. LaMelo Ball Injury Update

LaMelo Ball exited Monday's meeting with the Rockets with a sprained left ankle. This is an all too familiar ailment, as the 21-year-old injured it twice already this season. Donovan Mitchell Injury Update

Donovan Mitchell has been on a tear in his first season as a Cavalier, averaging a career-high 28.8 points per game. The 26-year-old has certainly made an impact, so there is naturally some concern surrounding his most recent injury, a groin strain, suffered during Monday's win over the Pelicans.https://twitter.com/ChrisFedor/status/1615106299636719632?s=20&t=nIB5An7gWfmmxjT49g7LLAMitchell exited in the third quarter and did not return to the contest, finishing with 11 points in 22 minutes. Thu Jan 12 202322:00Ricky Rubio To Make Season Debut On Thursday
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (knee) is set to make his season debut against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. The 32-year-old has been out for over a year while he recovers from left ACL surgery. He'll likely be on a heavy minutes limit as the Cavs ease him back into action. He's worth stashing in most fantasy formats, but isn't worth starting until he gets back up to full speed. Fantasy managers who can afford to be patient with Rubio should check the waiver wire to see if he's available.

Sun Jun 26 202218:26Cavs Hoping To Bring Back Ricky Rubio
Unrestricted free-agent guard Ricky Rubio (knee) continues to rehab after tearing his left ACL in December. However, that doesn't seem to be stopping the Cavaliers from looking to add him back to the roster, assuming the price is right. The 31-year-old played 38 games for Cleveland last season, averaging a respectable 13.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals. But after sustaining the injury, he was traded to Indiana ahead of the deadline. Nonetheless, although it may not be until January, it's unknown when Rubio will officially be available to return to the court. Still, if he ends up in Cleveland, he'll likely receive a generous serving of minutes off the bench. Additionally, factoring in Darius Garland and Collin Sexton's inability to stay healthy over the years, Rubio could also get some starts here or there in 2022-23.

Sun Feb 6 202216:54Ricky Rubio On The Move
The Pacers are trading guard Caris LeVert and a 2022 second-round pick (via Miami) to the Cavaliers. In exchange, Cleveland will be sending Ricky Rubio (knee), a 2022 first-round pick (lottery-protected), a 2022 second-round pick (via Houston), and a 2027 second-round pick (via Utah) back to Indiana. After Collin Sexton (knee) was lost for the year, Rubio was instrumental in the Cavaliers' success. He averaged career-high 13.1 points (tied) to go along with 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals. However, a torn ACL also ended his year. Nonetheless, Rubio still has some gas left in the tank. Yet, it's unknown where he will land during the 2022-23 campaign, but he is expected to remain relevant on the fantasy end, at least for a few more seasons.

Wed Dec 29 202117:36Ricky Rubio Sustains Torn ACL, Will Miss Rest Of Season
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ricky Rubio (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee, ending his 2021-22 season, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Rubio sustained the injury during Tuesday's game, which was arguably his best of the season, delivering 27 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. The loss of Rubio deals a further blow to the Cleveland backcourt, which has already been without Collin Sexton (knee), who will miss the remainder of the year, and is currently down Darius Garland (health and safety protocols) as well. Some combination of Kevin Pangos, RJ Nembhard Jr., and Malik Newman is likely to take over PG duties, while Isaac Okoro and Denzel Valentine have short-term assists upside. Rubio is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

Wed Dec 29 202100:49Ricky Rubio Suffers Potentially Serious Knee Injury
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio (knee) was injured during Tuesday's matchup against the Pelicans. Rubio was having a fantastic evening before succumbing to the ailment, finishing with 27 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. He will have an MRI on his left knee on Wednesday, but fantasy managers should at least expect him to miss Thursday's meeting with the Washington Wizards, although his absence could be much longer. With the team down Darius Garland, Cedi Osman, and Jarrett Allen because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols, Isaac Okoro and Kevin Pangos may handle the ball-handling duties for the next game or so until Garland or Osman can make it back.

Tue Nov 16 202108:05Ricky Rubio Continues Renaissance With Game-High 28 Points
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ricky Rubio was the top scorer in Monday's slow-burning 98-92 loss to Boston, shooting 9-for-20 from the field en route to 28 points. He nailed half of his eight attempts from deep and shot 6-for-7 at the foul line while tallying six rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes. Rubio has picked up extra minutes with Collin Sexton (knee) out, but the Spaniard was already demonstrated good form prior to Sexton's injury and the 31-year-old is on his way to having a very good bounce-back season. Rubio is averaging close to 15 points for the season with 3.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists. He's now starting a very tough run of games, which will really test his improved form. The Cavs face Brooklyn twice in their next three games, with a matchup against Golden State in between, and they also face the Suns.
