Sun Apr 3 202210:06Hassan Whiteside Quiet In Return
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (foot) was able to make his return to the court on Saturday versus the Golden State Warriors. The big man had missed four games prior to that due to a minor bone spur fracture. Whiteside didn't offer much in terms of fantasy production during Saturday's loss. He finished with two points, two rebounds, and one block in 10 minutes. To be fair, it was his first game back and fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much when he's behind Rudy Gobert. Whiteside will have a better matchup on Tuesday versus Memphis, but remains a shaky fantasy option in all formats.

Wed Mar 30 202220:26Hassan Whiteside To Remain Out On Thursday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (foot) will miss his fourth straight game on Thursday when the team faces the Los Angeles Lakers. Whiteside is currently hampered by a right foot sprain. The Jazz signed Greg Monroe to a 10-day contract to help fill in for the injured Whiteside. Monroe logged 10 minutes in his Jazz debut on Tuesday and came up with four points and two boards. Meanwhile, Rudy Gobert logged 38 minutes on Tuesday and racked up nine points, 16 boards and three blocks. Based on the Monroe signing, it seems likely that Whiteside is still about a week or so away from returning.

Thu Mar 24 202221:01Hassan Whiteside Draws Questionable Tag For Friday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (foot) has been listed as questionable to take the floor for Friday's game vs. Charlotte due to a sprained right foot. Whiteside's fantasy appeal is directly tied to that of Rudy Gobert, as the 32-year-old currently doesn't receive a high enough minutes share to justify a roster spot in season-long or DFS contests. If Whiteside is ultimately held out, Gobert could receive a handful of additional minutes, while Eric Paschall is an option to serve as a small ball center. Per DraftKings' scoring, the Hornets are yielding the second-most DFS points on a nightly basis to opposing centers.

Sun Mar 20 202219:18Hassan Whiteside Is Available Versus New York
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (illness) is available for Sunday's clash against the Knicks. The veteran didn't suit up during Utah's previous outing against the Los Angeles Clippers because of a non-COVID-19 related sickness. However, Whiteside will be back in the support role behind Rudy Gobert, and while he doesn't play a ton, he still has one of the highest fantasy point-per-minute averages this season, so he should remain on the radar.

Fri Mar 18 202220:02Hassan Whiteside Sitting Versus Clippers
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (illness) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He is sitting this one out due to a non-COVID related illness. That's not great news with Udoka Azubuike (ankle) sidelined as well. That means, Eric Paschall and possibly Rudy Gay will see more playing time. However, neither have enough upside to warrant streaming in most fantasy formats.

Tue Feb 1 202221:37Hassan Whiteside Questionable For Wednesday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (back) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Denver Nuggets. He's a new addition to the injury report, which is not good news with Rudy Gobert (calf) already ruled out. Whiteside has been playing well in Gobert's absence and is a decent fantasy option, assuming he plays. Otherwise, Udoka Azubuike, Rudy Gay, and Eric Paschall would have to try and contain Nikola Jokic. None of those players have much streaming value if Whiteside sits out.

Mon Jan 17 202217:55Hassan Whiteside Won't Play On Monday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside will not suit up for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been sidelined due January 10 due to the league's health and safety protocols. It's uncertain when he'll get back on the court, but he didn't have a huge role in the rotation anyway. Robert Gobert is back and should have a full workload against the Lakers. Udoka Azubuike should pick up more playing time, but isn't someone worth monitoring in fantasy formats. Gobert could have a slight boost in playing time with Whiteside remaining sidelined here.

Wed Jan 12 202217:55Hassan Whiteside Lands In COVID-19 Protocols
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside has been placed in the league's health and safety protocols, ruling him out indefinitely, beginning with Wednesday's game vs. Cleveland. Whiteside had stepped into the starting five for the past three contests with Rudy Gobertalso sidelined, with the duo's absence leaving the team tremendously thin in the frontcourt. Eric Paschall is likely to serve as a small-ball center, ramping up his DFS appeal, while wings such as Royce O'Neale can be seen as having increased rebounding upside. While Whiteside has been a terrific producer per minute this year, he holds little season-long intrigue once Gobert returns.

Thu Dec 9 202113:48Hassan Whiteside Might Sit Out Thursday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (glute) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. He has missed each of the last two games and could be headed for another absence. Rudy Gay could see a slight bump in the playing time, but wouldn't have enough value to warrant rostering in standard leagues. Also, Rudy Gobert could be asked to play a little longer than normal. That being said, Gobert could have slightly more DFS value, assuming Whiteside is out again on Thursday.

Wed Dec 8 202118:51Hassan Whiteside To Remain Out On Wednesday
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (glute) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This marks the second game in a row that Whiteside has missed due to a left glute contusion. The Jazz will likely be forced to go small ball with Rudy Gay and Eric Paschall. Also, Rudy Gobert might be asked to play more minutes than usual without Whiteside available. Gobert appears to be a strong option for DFS contests on Wednesday.

Wed Dec 8 202113:43Hassan Whiteside Could Miss Wednesday's Game
Utah Jazz center Hassan Whiteside (glute) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He sat out of Sunday's game due to this issue, so hopefully he won't be forced to miss another contest. Rudy Gobert might be asked to play a few more minutes, while Eric Paschall and Rudy Gay get more minutes at the center spot. Gobert could have slightly more fantasy value on Wednesday, assuming Whiteside sits out again. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update later on Wednesday.

Wed Aug 4 202121:00Hassan Whiteside Reaches Agreement With Utah
Free-agent center Hassan Whiteside has agreed to a veteran's minimum with the Jazz. After several seasons of efficiency in Miami, the veteran then made stops in Portland and Sacramento. While with the Kings, Whiteside averaged 8.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks but was plagued by injuries and relegated to a reserve role behind Richaun Holmes. He will remain a bench option in Utah backing up Rudy Gobert, a player who hasn't missed much time over the years. Although Whiteside still has value in deeper formats, his fantasy ceiling is potentially the lowest than at any point throughout his career.

Fri Jul 31 202020:36McCollum, Lillard help Blazers get past Memphis in OT
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — CJ McCollum scored 33 points, teaming with Damian Lillard for 11 of Portland's 16 in overtime, and the Trail Blazers pulled out a desperately needed victory to resume their season by beating the Memphis Grizzlies 140-135 on Friday.Lillard finished with 29 points and nine assists as the Trail Blazers boosted their hopes for a seventh consecutive playoff appearance. Carmelo Anthony added 21 points as Portland moved within 2 1/2 games of the Grizzlies for the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.“Everybody knew how important that game was," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. “This is playoff basketball from us and we have that pressure and you can’t shy away from it.”McCollum started fast, scoring 19 points in the first half, and finished strong with two crucial 3-pointers in overtime. Mon Jan 6 202003:00Whiteside's return to Miami doesn't go exactly as planned
MIAMI (AP) — Hassan Whiteside had a big game and the Miami Heat won. That wouldn’t have seemed so conflicting a year ago.Whiteside is having perhaps the best season of his career now, in his first year with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Heat, at 26-10, are off to their best start since the final season of the LeBron James era in Miami. And on Sunday night, it was Whiteside vs. the Heat for the first time since the trade that sent him to the Trail Blazers this past summer.Whiteside had 21 points and 18 rebounds. The Heat won anyway, 122-111.“It’s been surreal,” Whiteside said of his return to Miami. “It feels so different, you know? Even coming into the building a different way. You know, I didn’t know which way to go. I’ve never even been in this away locker room. I didn’t know what it even looked like.”He got booed early and often by Heat fans, and Whiteside seemed genuinely confused by that postgame. He wasn’t always the most popular Heat player -- despite winning the league rebounding... [More]
Tue Dec 31 201910:18The NBA's East is loaded at the top, and might stay that way
The West is used to being loaded at the top.The East, not so much. But a new year is arriving with a new look in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The league will wake up on Wednesday — the first day of 2020 — with six teams with winning percentages of .600 or better, the first time that’s been the case on New Year’s Day since 1998.“This is a tough part of the country, a tough part of our league,” Philadelphia coach Brett Brown said.He didn’t say “finally,” but he could have.Just last spring, Brooklyn got the No. 6 seed in the East playoffs at 42-40. This season, it won’t be inconceivable if two teams in the East reach 50 wins and start the playoffs on the road anyway — which would be amazing, considering that every 50-win team in the East since 1998 has gotten a top-four seed.Has there been a power shift from one conference to another? And can what seems to be happening in the East race last until April?“My gut feel is, I think it can,” Brown said. “To your overall question, is there a power... [More]

Wed Oct 9 201901:39Blazers party like it's 1970 in the preseason
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Trail Blazers kicked off their 50th anniversary season with a preseason game where it all started, Portland's Memorial Coliseum. The Blazers played at the Memorial Coliseum for 25 seasons from 1970-95 before moving to the Rose Garden, now the Moda Center. On Tuesday night the Blazers opened the preseason against the Denver Nuggets, the first of several special events to be held surrounding the anniversary.Blazers coach Terry Stotts wore a burnt-orange leisure suit for the occasion, and fans were entertained by organ music. But the Nuggets spoiled the party with a 105-94 victory, led by Paul Millsap's 14 points. Mario Hezonja paced the Blazers with 12 points. There were several former Portland players and executives on hand, including Geoff Petrie, who was named Rookie of the Year with the Blazers that first season and later became the team's general manager. He said he remembers when the Blazers were drawing just 3,500 a game."We had a lot of fun there for that brief... [More]
Thu Oct 3 201919:40Gasol has new team and new role, mentor to young Blazers
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Pau Gasol is already having an impact in Portland without even taking the court: The 7-foot Spaniard has become something of a mentor for the younger Trail Blazers. What a mentor to have. He’s a six-time All Star and one of just four players with over 20,000 points, 11,000 rebounds, 3,500 assists and 1,500 blocks in his career, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. He’s got a pair of NBA championship rings from a stint with the Lakers.About to embark on his 19th NBA season, Gasol is hoping for a fresh start with the Blazers. He came to Portland as a free agent in the offseason but he’s been limited at the start of training camp as he makes his way back from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.Gasol played just three games for the Milwaukee Bucks last season before the surgery. The Bucks signed him in March after he reached a buyout agreement with the San Antonio Spurs. In total, he played in just 30 games last season, averaging... [More]
Mon Sep 30 201919:33Blazers welcome new faces for 50th anniversary season
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Trail Blazers have a number of new players for Portland's 50th anniversary season— and a new resolve after their playoff run last spring.Joining the well-established backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum on Portland's roster are such offseason acquisitions as Hassan Whiteside, Pau Gasol and Kent Bazemore. The Blazers open preseason camp on Tuesday."I feel like it's coming together, naturally," Lillard said Monday at the team's media day. "Being together for some weeks now and playing pickup has just been cool. I think the environment that we've created over the years, guys come in and it's easy to get comfortable with it. I think that's what's happening."Last season the Blazers finished 53-29 and clinched the third seed in the Western Conference, earning home court for the first round — and a series with the Thunder. Portland wrapped that series up in five games, capped by Lillard's memorable walk-off 3-pointer, and advanced to the conference finals for the... [More]
Mon Sep 30 201912:53Spoelstra, Heat heading into post-Wade year with optimism
MIAMI (AP) — Erik Spoelstra bounded into his first Miami Heat news conference of the season looking tanned and relaxed, the benefit of having nearly six months off. He's hoping next summer is much shorter.Even without the now-retired Dwyane Wade and after a season where Miami didn't make the playoffs, Spoelstra said Monday at Heat media day that there's no reason for his team to not see big opportunities this season. The Heat landed four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler in July, and go to camp starting Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Florida with Spoelstra insisting that his expectations will be at their usual lofty level."Feels good to be back," said Spoelstra, entering his 12th season as Heat coach. "We've had plenty of time this offseason to reset, recalibrate and reorganize to get ready for this season. It's been 172 days. I think that is probably 70some days too many for this organization to have during the offseason. ... We're excited. Feels like a new team, a new opportunity."There are new... [More]
