LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Davies and three Chicago Cubs relievers combined for the seventh no-hitter in the majors this year, blanking the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 Thursday night and tying the record for most in a single baseball season since 1900. The Dodgers drew eight walks, getting at least one from each Cubs pitcher, but managed no other baserunners. Davies (5-4) issued five walks and used 94 pitches to get through six innings against the defending World Series champions in the 16th start of his first season with the Cubs. Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin each went one inning. CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians could be adding another veteran arm to their bullpen after signing Blake Parker to a minor league contract on Tuesday. Parker's deal includes an invitation to training camp in Arizona, where Cleveland will try to upgrade its relief corps to complement a solid starting staff. The 35-year-old Parker spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 14 games last season, the right-hander went 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA. He has also pitched for the Cubs, Mariners, Yankees, Angels and Twins in eight major league seasons. Parker has 34 career saves in 303 games. He's 14-10 with a 3.52 ERA since breaking in with Chicago in 2012. CLEVELAND (AP) — Free agent reliever Blake Parker agreed Monday to a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians. The incentive-laden deal includes an invitation to training camp and will be finalized once the 35-year-old Parker undergoes medical tests. Parker spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-hander went 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 14 games during the shortened 2020 season. The well-traveled Parker has pitched for six teams over eight major league seasons. He also has been with the Cubs, Yankees, Mariners, Angels and Twins. He has a 14-10 career record with a 3.52 ERA and 34 saves in 303 games. Parker had 14 saves for Los Angeles in 2018. The Indians are retooling their bullpen following the departure of closer Brad Hand. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillies have declined club options on left-hander Jason Vargas and right-handers Jared Hughes and Pat Neshek.Vargas was 1-4 with a 5.37 ERA in 11 starts with the Phillies, who acquired him on July 29 from the Mets. He gets a $2 million buyout instead of $8 million for 2020, and New York is sending the Phillies $2 million to offset the cost of the buyout.Hughes had a 3.91 ERA in 25 appearances with the Phillies. He receives a $250,000 buyout instead of $3 million for 2020.Neshek pitched 18 innings in 2019 and only 42 1/3 over the past two seasons while earning $16.5 million.
