OF Sam Fuld (left rotator cuff surgery, May 2016) resumed running in August. Fuld, who throws left-handed, had not begun a throwing program by the end of the season. The expected recovery time for rotator cuff surgery is 12 to 15 months.

OF Sam Fuld will likely miss the season after the A's announced he would undergo left shoulder surgery sometime in May. Fuld tried to strength it so he could avoid surgery but it continued to plague him. His playing time was going to be limited as it was, spelling Coco Crisp in left field.

The problem is it's hard to justify batting Fuld at the top of the order unless he improves on his .213/.292/.317 triple slash line.

Fuld will earn his fifth start in a row in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Aside from Saturday, Fuld has been buried at the bottom of the order in each of those five games, illustrating the lack of impact the Athletics are expecting from him in the batter's box. With Billy Burns (hip) back in action Sunday, at-bats could start becoming harder to come by for Fuld.

Fuld missed just one game due to a bruised hand, indicating that the injury is very minor. He has otherwise been getting semi-regular at-bats, with Tuesday marking his fifth start in the last seven games.

It's the fourth start in five games for Fuld, who has leveraged the injuries of Coco Crisp and Ike Davis into more frequent at-bats. Even so, Fuld's lack of power and .205 batting average this season won't allow him to retain much fantasy value despite the uptick in starts.

Fuld is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

This marks four absences in the last five games for the struggling Fuld, who owns a .191/.267/.290 slash line through 131 at-bats. Ben Zobrist has been spending more time in left field, allowing Eric Sogard to stay at second base against right-handed pitchers.

Fuld's .196 average this season likely led to his third absence in the last four games. Ben Zobrist will start in left field in his place Sunday, batting second for the Athletics.
