Tue Nov 4 201421:54Alfonso Soriano: Announces Retirement
Soriano announced his retirement Tuesday, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports.
The 38-year-old Soriano was unable to find a suitable offer after the Yankees cut ties in mid-July, and it seems he's come to terms with this being the end of his playing career. A seven-time All-Star, he hit .255 with 36 homers and 101 RBI in his last full season in the majors in 2013, but his BB/K fell to an atrocious 0.08 in 2014 and his mobility is rather limited at this stage. Soriano will finish his 16-year career with a .270/.319/.500 batting line, 412 homers and 1,159 RBI in 1,975 games.
Mon Jul 28 201415:20Soriano likely to take rest of season off
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Alfonso Soriano has told friends that he'll take the rest of the year off.
Soriano was released by the Yankees on July 14 after batting just .221/.244/.367 with six home runs in 67 games and hasn't drawn much interest on the open market. The veteran outfielder is considering trying to return to the majors in 2015 at the age of 39.

Thu Jul 17 201415:24Blue Jays have 'checked on' Alfonso Soriano
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Blue Jays have "checked on" Alfonso Soriano.
The Jays are looking for a power bat with Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind, and Brett Lawrie on the disabled list. Soriano, 38, was released by the Yankees earlier this week after batting just .221/.244/.367 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 67 games for New York.

Mon Jul 14 201419:28Alfonso Soriano released by Yankees
Yankees released OF/DH Alfonso Soriano.
Soriano was designated for assignment a week ago and, not surprisingly, cleared waivers. The 38-year-old has returned to his native Dominican Republic but presumably would be open to catching on with another club for the remainder of the season. He was batting just .221/.244/.367 with six homers over 67 games for the Yanks before losing his roster spot.

Sun Jul 6 201412:25Alfonso Soriano designated for assignment
Yankees designated OF/DH Alfonso Soriano for assignment.
Soriano slugged 17 homers over 58 games after being picked up by the Yankees last season, but he's hit just .221/.244/.367 with six bombs over 67 contests this year. Given his $18 million salary, he'll obviously clear waivers. However, he shouldn't have trouble finding someone willing to give him a shot at the league minimum.

Fri Jun 6 201412:42Alfonso Soriano to start only vs. lefties
Yankees manager Joe Girardi plans to play Alfonso Soriano only versus left-handed pitching for the time being.
Soriano is hitting just .195/.221/.341 against righties this season but sports a robust .303/.329/.515 line versus southpaws. His cut in playing time means more starts for Ichiro Suzuki, who's hitting .309/.371/.351. "Most of his struggles have been off right-handers, not left-handers," Girardi said. "That's why I ran him out there again today. He has had good at-bats against left-handers. He'll continue to play against left-handers. We'll get him going."

Thu Jun 5 201416:42Soriano has two hits and RBI vs. A's
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-3 with an RBI single Thursday against the Athletics.
Soriano was 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts over his last six games, so this was nice to see. Even after the multi-hit day, the 38-year-old is batting just .233/.259/.402 on the year. After posting a .791 OPS last year between the Cubs and Yankees, he's currently at just .661.

Mon Jun 2 201422:14Alfonso Soriano goes 0-for-4 in loss
Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-4 and struck out three times in the loss to the Mariners on Monday.
Soriano is starting to sit more against right-handers because of his struggles, and it could get a whole lot worse once Carlos Beltran comes off the disabled list. While the .230 average is only a mild disappointment, his six homers and 19 RBI are well south of what was expected and his 55/6 K/BB ratio in 183 at-bats is far more hideous than usual.

Fri May 30 201422:22Alfonso Soriano strikes out as pinch-hitter
Alfonso Soriano struck out as a pinch-hitter in his lone at bat during Friday's loss to the Twins.
Soriano has really been scuffling at the plate in the month of May, hitting a paltry .228 (18-for-79) with two homers, nine RBI and 29 strikeouts (36.7%). While he has traditionally been a better performer in the second half, he'll need to start showing signs of life or he'll continue to lose playing time.

Sun May 25 201419:00Soriano doubles twice in win over White Sox
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored against the White Sox on Sunday.
Soriano now has three doubles in his last two days, and he scored a run in each of the past three games. It's a small positive in what's been a disappointing season for the 38-year-old, as he's hitting just .246/.271/.427 with six home runs after hitting 34 bombs last year.

Thu May 15 201422:25Soriano's RBI double leads Yankees to win
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with an RBI double as the Yankees defeated the Mets on Thursday.
Soriano's RBI double in the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the winning run as the Yankees held on to win 1-0. His OPS has been on a precipitous decline over the last three weeks. Thursday's performance only bumps him up to .691. While he has shown occasional power, he hasn't been walking and he has been hitting for a characteristically-low average.

Thu Apr 17 201423:02Alfonso Soriano goes 3-for-5, homers
Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-5 and hit his fourth homer Thursday versus the Rays.

Fri Apr 11 201422:28Soriano homers in loss to Red Sox
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.
Soriano was a little slow to get going this season, but he has three multi-hit games in his last five and four extra-base hits (including two home runs and three RBI) over his last four. We're not expecting a high batting average, but the 38-year-old is in good situation from a power perspective.

Tue Apr 8 201417:03Alfonso Soriano homers in loss to Orioles
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Orioles.
It was his first home run of the season. Soriano went 0-for-16 to begin the season, but he has hit safely in each of his last three games. While he's unlikely to match what he did during the second half last year, he should still provide some cheap pop and double-digit steals for fantasy owners this year.

Tue Mar 18 201416:38Alfonso Soriano homers, drives in four
Alfonso Soriano had a three-run homer and an RBI single in the Yankees' 8-1 defeat of the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Soriano had a .200/.238/.200 line in 20 at-bats this spring before busting out today. It looks like the plan is for him to sixth in the Yankees lineup behind Brian McCann and Mark Teixeira. That's not a recipe for great run and RBI numbers, but he should be a nice source of homers once again.

Alfonso Soriano (flu) hopes to return to Grapefruit League action on Wednesday.
Soriano came down with a case of the flu over the weekend, but he was back at the Yankees' spring training complex on Monday morning for some light work and shouldn't fall too far behind his teammates.

Sat Mar 1 201416:28Soriano (flu) no longer traveling with Yanks
Alfonso Soriano (flu) has been scratched from the Yankees' trip to Dunedin Sunday.
Soriano was originally on the travel list despite thoughts that he wouldn't be ready to play, so little changes except the outfielder's plans for the day. The illness has kept him from participating in camp thus far, but his readiness for Opening Day is still not much of a concern. He should be back on the field sooner than later.

Sat Mar 1 201412:44Alfonso Soriano (flu) may not play on Sunday
Alfonso Soriano (flu) is on the Yankees travel list for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, but doesn't believe that he'll be able to play just yet.
Soriano is battling a rough bout of the flu that has limited him throughout the early portion of spring training. He was able to take batting practice on Saturday, but still appears to be a few days away from game action.

Wed Feb 26 201411:23Soriano (flu) to make spring debut Sunday
Alfonso Soriano (flu) is scheduled to make his spring debut on Sunday.
Soriano has been limited early on this spring while battling the flu, so the Yankees are easing him into game action. The 38-year-old amassed 34 home runs and 101 RBI last season and is entering the final year of a nine-year, $136 million contract.
