Thu Sep 18 201411:33Contrary to earlier reports
Contrary to earlier reports, Ayon is apparently deciding between offers from the Spurs and Shandong in China, Shams Charania of RealGM reports.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced claiming that Ayon had agreed to a multi-year deal with Real Madrid in Spain, but it now appears he's mulling a return to the NBA. It's unknown when he'll make his decision, but San Antonio seems like an ideal destination for the veteran big man to revive his career after a down season with the Hawks.
Mon Sep 8 201416:54Ayon has agreed to multi-year deal with Real Madrid in Spain
Ayon has agreed to a multi-year deal with Real Madrid in Spain, David Pick of Eurobasket.com reports.
Ayon reportedly received interested from a few NBA teams, but he'll spurn those offers and instead opt for a longer-term deal overseas. The Mexico native appeared in 26 games for the Hawks last season, averaging 4.3 points and 4.8 rebound sin 16.5 minutes. Ayon had a few productive stints with Atlanta and New Orleans but never truly found his niche in the league. Still, he's only 30 years old, so a return to the NBA down the road certainly is not out of the question.

Ayon has received some interest from the Spurs, CBS Sports reports.
Ayon is the type of versatile player who appears to fit in well with the Spurs. Injury problems have limited his opportunities in the NBA, but he has impressed in recent international play, and may have earned himself another shot.

Ayon tabbed a double-double in the championship game and MVP of the Centrobasket tournament, Court Side reports.
Ayon scored 16 points and 16 rebounds in the championship game as the Mexico defeated Puerto Rico 74-60. He seems to be healed from a shoulder injury that ended his season early with the Hawks. Ayon shot 51 percent from the field but only averaged about 17 minutes per game in 26 games. He is currently a free agent, so this performance could help him find a home for next year.

Ayon was not offered a qualifying offer by the Hawks before Monday's deadline, making him a free agent, ajc.com reports.
Ayon was deemed to be an expendable piece for the Hawks following a very mediocre season. Ayon put up just 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds, making only 14 starts for a team that is trying to improve on its first-round playoff loss last season. If the Hawks had offered Ayon a qualifying offer, he would have cut $1.8 million into the salary cap, a number that the Hawks deemed just too much. He will now be an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
Wed Jul 30 201413:17Gustavy Ayon recovered from shoulder surgery
Free agent Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) is healthy and will join the Mexican National Team for the Centrobasket tournament this summer.
Ayon had surgery after injuring his shoulder in February, but he's reported no setbacks after playing vs. the Dominican Republic this week. "I only have a small contraction in the neck but the injury to his right shoulder, I feel pretty good," he said. As an unrestricted FA, his ability to stay healthy throughout Centrobasket will be crucial to landing another NBA contract.

Tue Jul 1 201416:31Gustavo Ayon becomes unrestricted free agent
Gustavo Ayon is an unrestricted free agent after the Hawks declined to make him a $1.9 million qualifying offer.
Al Horford (pectoral surgery) will be ready for training camp, the Hawks can match offers for restricted FA Pero Antic, and they've already expressed interest in re-signing Elton Brand. With Ayon still recovering from shoulder surgery, there wasn't much incentive for Atlanta to keep him in town.

Wed Jun 18 201409:23Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) doubtful for FIBA
Hawks big man Gustavo Ayon (shoulder surgery) may not be healthy enough to play for Mexico in the FIBA World Cup in early September.
The 29-year-old had season-ending right shoulder surgery in February. "I'm fine physically, but the shoulder is not a hundred percent," Ayon said. "So even though I can feel good, while the injury is not healed completely I will not be able to play." The Hawks have until June 30 to make Ayon a $1.9 million qualifying offer and retain the right to match contract offers in restricted free agency.

Fri Feb 28 201412:37Gustavo Ayon needs surgery, done for year
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) needs surgery and is out for the season.
It's unfortunate timing for Ayon, who was seeing significant minutes thanks to Al Horford's season-ending injury. Ayon's first season in Atlanta ends with averages of 4.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals while playing 16.5 minutes per night in 26 games. The Hawks will continue to lean heavily on the likes of Mike Scott and Elton Brand as bigs.

Wed Feb 26 201411:02Ayon, Antic, Millsap all out on Wednesday
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) did not travel with the Hawks for Wednesday's road game in Boston.
Pero Antic (ankle) and Paul Millsap (knee) will also be sidelined, and the Hawks may once again have to play Elton Brand close to 40 minutes in their threadbare frontcourt. DeMarre Carroll will likely earn another start at PF with Kyle Korver at SF and Mike Scott playing extra minutes off the bench, and small lineups featuring multiple guards will be inevitable.

Tue Feb 25 201411:15Gustavo Ayon ruled out for Tuesday vs Bulls
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) will miss Tuesday's game against Chicago.
Ayon would have been poised to see big minutes with Paul Millsap and Pero Antic already ruled out for Tuesday night, but the Hawks will be forced into using smaller lineups against the Bulls. Mike Scott and Elton Brand will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Hawks' frontcourt M.A.S.H. unit, while newly-acquired Dexter Pittman could see his first action of the season.

Mon Feb 24 201413:55Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) still not practicing
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) has not yet resumed practicing.
He was hoping to return on Tuesday but that now seems doubtful, and the Hawks are unlikely to rush him back and risk another setback. With Paul Millsap (knee) already ruled out Tuesday and Wednesday, Elton Brand will have to shoulder a heavy load and the Hawks may be forced to stick with a variety of small lineups.

Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) is hoping to play Tuesday night.

Wed Feb 19 201417:17Gustavo Ayon out, DeMarre Caroll game-time
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) will not play against the Wizards on Wednesday.
He did not play in the second half due to his shoulder injury, which allowed Elton Brand to start after halftime and turn in a line of eight points, eight boards and one steal in 25 total minutes. Mike Scott should also get some more playing time and the pair could have some decent output against a somewhat vulnerable Wizards frontcourt. There is still some risk in using either player, of course.

Wed Feb 12 201421:41Gustavo Ayon explodes for 18 & 10 in loss
Gustavo Ayon came out of nowhere to hit 9-of-11 shots for 18 points, 10 rebounds and a steal in Wednesday's blowout loss to the Hawks.
His previous season high was 10 points back in November and he was clearly feeling it tonight, missing only two shots. He's been starting for the Hawks with Pero Antic out and is averaging 8.7 rebounds over his last three games, but we still don't see a reason to own him in fantasy unless he puts on a show like this a couple more times. And if you somehow used Ayon in a daily money league, chances are you did well.

Fri Jan 31 201423:50Ayon is productive against lowly Sixers
Gustavo Ayon took his turn at the pinata in Friday's blowout win over Philly, scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block over 23 minutes in another start at center.
Ayon has been useful since moving into the starting lineup over the last three games, returning late-round value on averages of 7.0 points, 7.0 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 71.4 percent field goal shooting. He has turned the ball over 3.0 times per game in that span but he's worth a short-term look if you need a big man while Pero Antic is out.
