SG Tony Wroten, who is not expected to play again this season as he recuperates from knee surgery, signed with New York on Wednesday. Knicks coach Kurt Rambis acknowledged before the game that the club would like to take a close look at the 6-foot-6 Wroten when he is healthy enough to work out, either later this spring or early in the summer.

Wroten sustained the knee injury in late January, which spelled an end to his past season when he went under the knife for surgery. The point guard hasn't hit any huge snags in his recovery, but the lengthy rehab period will likely knock him out for the start of the 2015-16 campaign. Once healthy, Wroten, along with Kendall Marshall, who is also rehabbing a torn ACL, figure to push Isaiah Canaan for the starting role at the point.

Wroten tore his ACL in January but noted that his rehab is going well and he expects to return at some point during the 2015-16 season. "Rehab is going great," Wroten said. That last sentence would seem to imply that Wroten will not be rushing back, and with the Sixers likely to be out of the playoff race early in the year, the team doesn't have much of an incentive to expedite his return.

Wroten appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery, as the original hopeful return date was the start of the regular season. "Tony is on track. I heard good things of late. Expectation to be ready for training camp," Hinkie speculated Wednesday. Upon his return, Wroten will likely compete for the starting point guard job, and the status of his knee will continue to be monitored.

It was previously reported that everything was going well for Wroten, so this is further confirmation that he's still on track in his recovery. Wroten tore his knee in January and then went on to have surgery in early-February, therefore ending his 2014-15 season. As soon as he's able to return, look for Wroten to battle Isaiah Canaan for the starting point guard position barring any other free agent pickups or trades.

Wroten averaged 16.9 points (40% FG, 26% 3Pt, 67% FT), 1.2 three-pointers, 5.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 30 minutes per game for 30 regular season games in 2014-15.

Before going down with a right knee injury, Wroten was the highest scorer on the 76ers, and was the 88th ranked player in eight-category leagues. Michael-Carter Williams was moved to Milwaukee, so Wroten will have less competition for backcourt minutes, barring offseason moves by the team. Entering his 4th season, Wroten is certainly worth a mid-to-late round pick in standard leagues for 2015-16.
