Fri Feb 1 201319:51Orioles not expected to sign Arthur Rhodes
Despite throwing for the team at Camden Yards on Thursday, the Orioles are not expected to offer a contract to Arthur Rhodes.
Rhodes is hoping to secure a minor league deal with a spring training invite after sitting out the entire 2012 season. He posted a 4.64 ERA and 21/11 K/BB ratio over 33 innings in 2011. Given the demand for quality left-handed relievers, it's likely he'll find at least one team willing to give him a shot.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners are interested in free agent reliever Arthur Rhodes.
Rhodes, 42, took a step back in 2011, posting a 4.64 ERA over 51 games and getting released by the Rangers at midseason. He was an All-Star in 2010, though, and might be able to scrap together one more decent year in a pitcher's environment.

Veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes said Thursday that he's hoping to play one more season.
Rhodes told reporters that he'd like to re-sign with the Cardinals, for whom he has played a major role as a lefty specialist throughout the playoffs. The veteran southpaw had a disappointing regular season, but he should land a contract somewhere.

Fri Aug 19 201117:38Arthur Rhodes walks only batter he faces
Arthur Rhodes walked the only batter he faced and was charged with the game-tying run Friday in the Cards' loss to the Cubs.
Rhodes came in to start the eighth, walked Carlos Pena and was pulled. Kyle McClellan immediately gave up the game-tying double afterwards. In four appearances for the Cards, Rhodes has walked two, allowed a homer and taken a loss. His signing has already come back to bite Tony La Russa in a big way.

Fri Aug 12 201119:36Rhodes chose Cards over Yanks, Sox, Phils
Arthur Rhodes said that in addition to the Cardinals, he had offers from the Yankees and Red Sox to join their major league bullpen and an offer from the Phillies to go to Triple-A for three appearances before joining the big club.
Rhodes said he wants to pitch for a team that has a good shot of reaching the playoffs, so it's a little surprising that he chose the Cardinals over three teams that are virtually assured of postseason play. "I know there were a lot of teams out there that wanted me," Rhodes said. "But I wanted to come over here and play because I know this city is a baseball city and they love baseball so that's why I choose St. Louis. I get excited, man. I feel like a little kid again. I'm ready to go out there and pitch." Rhodes will be used as a situational lefty, with fellow southpaw Marc Rzepczynski getting a chance to throw multiple innings if needed.

Cardinals signed LHP Arthur Rhodes.
Rhodes was released by the Rangers a few days ago after opening the season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over his first 32 relief appearances. He's still an effective option against left-handed hitters and should do fine if used correctly by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. The 41-year-old will join up with the Redbirds on Friday.

Wed Aug 10 201119:16Arthur Rhodes to decide on team Thursday
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Arthur Rhodes is expected to make a decision on which team to sign with on Thursday.
Goold adds that Rhodes nearly signed with the Cardinals two years ago and his colleague, Joe Strauss, reported earlier that the Cardinals were "kicking tires" on the left-hander. They're one of several teams that have interest in the 41-year-old lefty, with the Yankees also known to be considering him.

Arthur Rhodes will become a free agent Wednesday.
Rhodes was designated for assignment by the Rangers in early August after opening the season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through his first 32 relief appearances. The veteran left-hander has already been linked to the Cardinals and Yankees. He should have no trouble finding a new team.

Sun Aug 7 201109:12Report: Yankees interested in Arthur Rhodes
George A. King III of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are interested in the recently designated for assignment Arthur Rhodes.
King notes that their interest is limited to a minor league deal, which is likely all Rhodes would be able to get at this point, anyway. He held a 4.81 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings for the Rangers before being designated for assignment, but Rhodes did hold left-handed batters to a .216 average. The Cardinals also have some interest in the 41-year-old lefty.

Wed Aug 3 201108:55Cards could have interest in Arthur Rhodes
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa indicated that the club could have interest in veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes.
Rhodes, 41, was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Tuesday. "He's been a hell of a pro for a long, long time," said La Russa. "He's got all our respect. Does that sound like intrigued?" Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak declined to characterize his interest in Rhodes, but MLB.com's Matthew Leach writes that club has had "significant interest" in the veteran southpaw in the past. Rhodes has a 4.81 ERA and 15/8 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings this season.

Sat Jul 2 201114:09Rangers unable to trade Arthur Rhodes
Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers have been trying to trade Arthur Rhodes but haven't had any takers.
Rhodes has been a huge disappointment after signing a $3 million deal over the offseason, posting a 4.34 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 18 2/3 innings. It's possible the Rangers could end up designating the 41-year-old for assignment if they're unable to find a trade partner, as they need to make room for Darren O'Day's imminent return from the disabled list.

Wed Jun 1 201114:23Arthur may be used as lefty specialist
Rangers manager Ron Washington indicated Wednesday that he may use Arthur Rhodes as more of a left-handed specialist moving forward.
Washington was forced to address the issue after Arthur gave up a go-ahead two-run homer to Evan Longoria -- a right-handed hitter -- in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game. "He has been a guy who has been able to go through a lineup when it is left-right-left-right," said Washington. "But with his struggles, I've got to protect him more. When I bring him in, I've got to make sure I have protection." Right-handed batters are hitting .300/.344/.667 with three homers over 32 plate appearances against Rhodes this season.

Sun Apr 24 201119:37Arthur Rhodes gets one out to nab save Sunday
Arthur Rhodes induced a Melky Cabrera groundout with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday to earn his first save since 2008.
The Rangers entered the ninth inning with an 8-4 lead. But after Brett Tomko got in trouble, the 41-year-old Rhodes was called upon for the final out. Still, we like Darren Oliver as the top candidate for saves while Neftali Feliz is sidelined. Oliver was likely unavailable today after pitching an inning on both Friday and Saturday.

Sat Mar 26 201111:49Arthur Rhodes gets cortisone injection
Arthur Rhodes received a cortisone injection in his left wrist Saturday.
The wrist has been giving the veteran some problems lately, but the Rangers expect him to be ready for Opening Day. Rhodes posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 69 relief appearances last year for the Reds.

Sat Jan 22 201111:07Rhodes wants to pitch longer than Orosco
Arthur Rhodes, 41, said he intends to pitch longer than Jesse Orosco, who retired at the age of 46 after 24 seasons.
"My goal is to pitch until my arm falls off," said Rhodes. It's hard to tell him he won't be able to pitch beyond the age of 46 given how well he's produced the last three seasons after coming back from Tommy John surgery. Rhodes posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 69 relief appearances last year for the Reds on his way to making his first All-Star appearance. The one-year deal he signed with the Rangers earlier this month contains a vesting option for 2012.

Mon Jan 3 201113:46Rangers ink Arthur Rhodes to one-year pact
Rangers signed LHP Arthur Rhodes to a one-year contract with a vesting option for 2012.
Rhodes can earn about $8 million in all if things go well in 2011 and the option vests for 2012. He finished with a brilliant 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 69 relief appearances last year for the Reds and will operate as a setup man and lefty specialist out of the Texas bullpen this season. The 41-year-old probably won't carry much in the way of fantasy value.
