Tue Mar 4 201415:14Chris Smith released by Erie Bay Hawks
Chris Smith has been released by the Knicks' D-League affiliate Erie Bay Hawks.
J.R.'s brother was waived by the Knicks earlier this season after appearing in zero games. He reportedly left the Bay Hawks a few days before his release because he was upset with his playing time, and it's safe to assume that he won't join an NBA team in the near future.

Mon Dec 30 201314:49Knicks waive Chris Smith to clear roster spot
The Knicks have decided to waive PG Chris Smith.
The move clears a roster spot for big man Jeremy Tyler. Smith may only have landed his contract as a condition of the Knicks re-signing his brother J.R. Smith, and either way Chris wasn't going to make a dent in the rotation.

Tue Dec 17 201315:33Knicks recall Chris Smith from D-League
The Knicks have recalled PG Chris Smith from the D-League.
The move may have been inspired by Pablo Prigioni's toe injury, which leaves New York perilously thin at PG. It's still doubtful that J.R.'s brother will crack the rotation -- he has exactly zero NBA appearances to his credit and has been averaging a mediocre 11.3 points and 2.7 assists per game with the Erie BayHawks this season.

Mon Nov 18 201312:58Knicks assign Chris Smith to D-League
The Knicks assigned Chris Smith to the D-League on Monday.
Smith's contract with New York has been a source of consternation for Knicks fans who would like J.R.'s brother off the roster to clear a spot for a big man, and even Brandon Jennings questioned how Smith earned an NBA contract (which prompted a mini-feud on Twitter with J.R.). Regardless, the 'other' Smith has no fantasy appeal.

Sat Aug 31 201313:27Chris Smith to join Knicks for training camp
Chris Smith will play for the Knicks during training camp.
Smith played for New York during Summer League and was hoping to make the roster as a backup PG, but that seems unlikely with Beno Udrih and Pablo Prigioni as veteran depth behind Raymond Felton.

Chris Smith is expected to play for the Knicks during summer league.
After tearing up his knee before the season started, Smith has been rehabbing at the Knicks facility and is "nearly back at full strength." Despite a previous report that the Knicks wouldn't sign him, ESPN New York reports that the team has told him he'll be on the summer league roster.

Mon May 27 201309:09Report: Knicks won't sign J.R.'s bro Chris
The Knicks will not sign Chris Smith, the brother of J.R. Smith, a source told ESPN New York.
"Chris is not an NBA player -- not even close," the source said. "He will never play for them." We don't argue with that assessment and it would be shocking to see Chris given a legitimate chance with the Knicks.

Mon May 20 201308:19Knicks expected to re-sign Chris Smith
The Knicks are expected to re-sign Chris Smith before training camp next season.
Chris, J.R.'s brother, was signed by the Knicks before training camp, but a knee injury derailed his season before it ever got started. It's not clear if any other team is interested in J.R.'s brother, but the Knicks appear to be lining up a "package deal" with Chris and J.R. if the latter re-signs.

Thu Apr 25 201308:21Chris Smith a favorite to make Knicks in '13?
Chris Smith, J.R.'s brother, is reportedly a "favorite" to make the Knicks next season.
Chris was in training camp with the Knicks but had to have knee surgery, so the team wound up waiving him in late October. However, in late February there was a report that the team still intended to sign J.R.'s brother, so it looks like that is still a plausible scenario.

Mon Feb 25 201309:13Report: Knicks still intend to sign Smith
The Knicks still intend to sign Chris Smith, the brother of J.R., a source told Knicks Journal.
Smith was signed to a training camp contract and was never a lock to make the team from day one. Smith isn't scheduled to resume basketball activities until April, so maybe the Knicks will give him another look in training camp before the 2013/14 season.
