Tue Jul 5 202214:29San Antonio Lands Gorgui Dieng On One-Year Deal
Center Gorgui Dieng is set to rejoin the San Antonio Spurs for the 2022-23 season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. Dieng appeared in 16 games off the bench for San Antonio in '20-21, before playing last year with Atlanta, where he averaged a career-low 8.4 minutes per outing. With Jakob Poeltl holding down starting center duties for the Spurs, Dieng faces an uphill path to garnering significant minutes in the frontcourt, while Zach Collins stands to lead the team's second unit on the glass. The 32-year-old native of Senegal has proven to be a solid per minute contributor when utilized, but he can remain on the waiver wire in all formats until he sees his playing time trend upward.

Sat Oct 9 202123:47Gorgui Dieng Dealing With A Sprained Hand
Atlanta Hawks center Gorgui Dieng (hand) exited Saturday's preseason win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The veteran suffered a sprained right hand and didn't return. Normally, Dieng's ailments over the years haven't impacted fantasy managers much. Yet, with Clint Capela (Achilles) and Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) expected to miss time during the regular season, the veteran was projected to see an increased role early on. The team will likely provide an update on his health ahead of its next exhibition against Miami. However, if Dieng misses time moving forward, it may force John Collins to get some run in the middle, while Danilo Gallinari could see an uptick in minutes at the four.

Tue May 25 202115:11Growing pains as Spurs transition to younger roster
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — After relying heavily on veterans for two decades, the San Antonio Spurs are having growing pains in their transformation to a younger roster. For the first time, San Antonio missed the playoffs for a second straight season after an NBA-record 22 straight appearances. “Unique, roller coaster, weird,” Spurs veteran guard DeMar DeRozan said. “I think those are three things that sum up this season.” The days of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili guiding a veteran roster have given way to Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker learning on the fly through injuries, little practice and a compacted schedule because ot he pandemic. It was one of the most confounding seasons for Gregg Popovich, but also one of the most rewarding in his 25 years as Spurs coach. “If any team needs practices to work on consistency and execution, we did,” Popovich said. “(But) I don’t know if I have ever been more proud of a team that just doesn’t quit. No matter what... [More]

Mon Feb 10 202017:23Surprising Grizzlies ahead of team's rebuilding schedule
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies' rebuilding plan is ahead of even the most optimistic schedule,They have won more games before the All-Star break than predicted and currently hold the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference standings.“We had high hopes for what this group could become, and I think it's fair to say that this group has already exceeded I think any realistic expectations that anyone had internally or externally,” Memphis general manager Zach Kleiman said Monday. Kleiman talked to reporters Monday for the first time since the trade deadline. The Grizzlies are 3-1 in February and have won 14 of their last 18 and are 27-26 overall — a game above what most sports books expected this season. It's a quick turnaround from just over a year ago when Memphis was breaking up the final pieces of a group that set a franchise record with seven straight playoff appearances that ended in 2017.The Grizzlies traded center Marc Gasol to Toronto. Thu Feb 6 202020:56Wolves send Wiggins to Warriors for Russell in scorer swap
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have taken on yet another new look, with D'Angelo Russell on his way to join pal Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins heading west to the Golden State Warriors. In a swap of high scorers consummated just a few hours before the NBA deadline on Thursday, the Timberwolves acquired the dynamic point guard they'd been seeking for awhile in Russell and pulled the plug on their development of Wiggins, the mercurial first overall pick of the 2014 draft. The deal also sent two little-used Golden State players, guard Jacob Evans and forward Omari Spellman, to the Timberwolves and routed two draft picks to the Warriors. They'll get Minnesota's first-rounder and second-rounder in 2021, unless the first-rounder is in the top three. Then it would roll over to 2022.That means the Timberwolves, who overturned half of their roster this week, will have two first-round picks this summer, their own that's likely to be in the top five and another one from Brooklyn... MIAMI (AP) — Most of the top NBA playoff contenders stayed out of the down-to-the-wire frenzy at the trade deadline.Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers beefed up instead. And a slew of other teams — including the Golden State Warriors — made moves with short-term finances and long-term ramifications in mind. The NBA’s 3 p.m. EST deadline Thursday for trades to be consummated did not arrive quietly, with a flurry of deals getting struck in the final hour and at least one other notable move falling apart before reaching the finish line.
