F Anthony Bennett was the No. 1 overall pick by the Cavaliers in 2013, but he played only one season in Cleveland. The Nets are his fourth team in as many years. "I really like his rebounding and his athleticism," Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson said. "Anthony is dynamic, pretty long, has versatility, and I like that he can shoot the basketball."

F Anthony Bennett has not done much since being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, and now apparently he will be waived by the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors are the third team Bennett has played for in his three NBA seasons. He averaged 4.2 points as a rookie with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected him in the draft. He averaged 5.2 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves in his second season, and was averaging 1.5 points and 0.9 rebounds in 19 games for the Raptors this season.

Bennett has impressed Raptors coach Dwane Casey with his defense since joining the club, the Toronto Sun reports. "He's in the right place, he gets there quickly, with a sense of urgency, with force. He's known as an offensive player, but his defense has been the most impressive thing to this point," Casey said Sunday.
The Raptors haven't yet settled on a primary backup to DeMarre Carroll at small forward, so if Bennett can continue flashing in the defensive end he could well end up seeing more significant minutes than expected in the team's wing rotation.

Bennett returned to practice after rolling his ankle in Thursday's game
Bennett is looking to rejuvenate his career for his hometown team after a rocky start playing for the Cavaliers and the Timberwolves. The former number one pick will likely start with a bench role for the Raptors and look to earn his playing time. His preseason performance will play a factor in the teams confidence in him, so it's good news that he's returned to practice.

Bennett (shoulder) made his preseason (and Raptors) debut Monday against the Warriors, scoring five points (1-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and handing out two assists in 16 minutes.
Bennett sat out Sunday's exhibition opener after hyperextending his shoulder in a recent practice, but his return to the court Monday suggests the injury was never a major concern. Cut loose by the Timberwolves earlier this summer, Bennett will look to recoup value while playing for his hometown team, but in a best-case scenario, he looks destined for an end-of-the-bench role.

Bennett is likely to miss tonight's preseason opener against the Clippers, Eric Koreen of the National Post reports.
Bennett hyperextended his shoulder in practice and will probably take the night off to rest it. The injury doesn't seem like anything to serious, and the former first-overall pick should be good to go by the beginning of the regular season.

Bennett has signed a one-year contract with the Raptors for the veteran's minimum, Shams Charania of Yahoo reports.
As anticipated, Bennett will head to the Raptors on a one-year deal. Bennett struggled to get meaningful minutes with the Timberwolves last season, so it's tough to see him making much of a name for himself in Toronto. He finished the 2014-15 season playing in 57 games, while averaging 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists over 16 minutes per game. Steer clear of Bennett in standard leagues until he proves himself otherwise.
Fri Sep 25 201517:30Anthony Bennett: Could Sign With Raptors
Bennett could sign with the Raptors as early as next week, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.
It's important to note that nothing is set in stone at this time, but Stein notes that "barring some unexpected snag" the Raptors could bring Bennett in on a minimum deal, all the team can offer given its current cap situation. Whether that ultimately happens remains to be seen, but Bennett, a native of Canada, would not immediately step into a significant role.
Fri Sep 25 201517:16Bennett cleared waivers Friday and officially free agent
Bennett cleared waivers Friday and is officially a free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.
With teams unwilling to absorb Bennett's $5.8 million waiver price tag, he'll now obtain free agent status, meaning he can sign a new contract at what would presumably be a discounted rate. Despite struggling mightily with both the Cavaliers and Timberwolves, the former No. 1 overall pick should pique the interest of a few franchises, with the Trail Blazers and 76ers mentioned as potential landing spots. Regardless of where Bennett ends up, he'll be viewed as a project player and is unlikely to be of much utility in nearly any format this season.
Tue Sep 22 201512:43Bennett's contract bought out by Timberwolves on Tuesday
Bennett's contract was bought out by the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Reports surfaced Monday night suggesting the two sides were working toward a buyout, and that has now been finalized, meaning Bennett will become a free agent. The former No. 1 overall pick has now flamed out in both Cleveland and Minnesota, but considering his age (22) and relative upside, he figures to resurface with another franchise willing to take what is ultimately a fairly low-risk chance on him. The 76ers and Trail Blazers are two teams whose names have already surfaced as potential suitors.
Sun Aug 23 201514:29Bennett remains on trading block for Timberwolves
Bennett remains on the trading block for the Timberwolves, seemingly in perpetuity, Jon Krawczynki of the AP reports.
Bennett was the first-overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, but he's thus far been limited by injuries in his first two seasons, limiting his ability to claim minutes and capitalize on his rare opportunities to play. In 2014-15 with the Cavs, he was coming back from shoulder surgery that left him out of shape and lacking practice. He was then traded to the Timberwolves as part of the Kevin Love/Andrew Wiggins deal, and an ankle injury limited his effectiveness once again. Bennett played well at the Pan American Games for the US National Team, but with Karl-Anthony Tows, Gorgui Dieng, Kevin Garnett, Adreian Payne, and Nicola Pekovic all on the Timberwolves roster, it's hard to see where Bennett could get the minutes he needs to develop in the NBA. Unless the Timberwolves trade him to a team where he can get minutes, Bennett will be unlikely to play a relevant role in fantasy most nights this season.

Bennett supplied 18 points (8-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt), 14 rebounds, two assists, and one block in 28 minutes for Team Canada during their 111-108 victory over Team U.S.A. on Saturday.
Bennett is averaging 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds during the Pan American Games. Team Canada will square off against Team Brazil for the gold medal on Saturday. The 2013 first overall pick was hampered by an ankle injury in his first season with the Timberwolves, and even though he has provided his national team great value, Bennett still needs to prove he can stay healthy and compete against the NBA's best while fending off teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Deign for playing time.

Bennett struggled through an injury-riddled 2014-15 campaign, posting averages of 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 57 games.
The No. 1 pick in the 2013 draft came to Minnesota in the offseason as part of the LeBron James/Kevin Love swap. Looking to prove his rookie season was a fluke, Bennett started the season with a decent stretch of games, averaging 7.9 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting better than 53 percent from the floor over the season's first month. However, he was playing fewer than 18 minutes per game, and his opportunities began to dwindle. He averaged only 3.7 points in 14.6 minutes (33% FG) in December, and his numbers weren't much better the following month. Injuries began to set in in February, and Bennet would play only four games after Feb. 20, due primarily to a severe ankle sprain. While Bennett has shown flashes, on occasion, of the skills that made him the top overall pick, it's difficult to imagine he becomes a significant contributor on a consistent basis for Minnesota next season. However, with Thaddeus Young no longer in the picture and Kevin Garnett's status still up in the air, Bennett could have more opportunities to prove doubters wrong in 2015-16.
