Mon Aug 31 202015:17All ears: Magic will decompress, then make future plans
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Orlando coach Steve Clifford proudly displayed a pair of personalized Mickey Mouse ears inside his home office Monday, saying they would be one of the gifts from this season that he would cherish the most. It’s safe to say they weren’t on his wish list when this season started. The world has been turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the NBA into a bubble at Walt Disney World to resume the season — and now that the Magic are out of the bubble, they have no real idea what comes next. So, for now, there’s no concrete plans to be made for the 2020-21 season. That’ll come in time, but Clifford intends to spend the immediate future going over what went right and wrong after a season in which Orlando made the playoffs for a second consecutive year but couldn’t get past the first round.“I think what it does is it makes us more relevant again,” Clifford said. “First of all, making the playoffs is never an easy thing. You can’t take it for granted.... [More]

Sat Feb 8 202023:37Giannis just misses triple-double, Bucks beat Magic 111-95
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A slow start didn't help Giannis Antetokounmpo's shot at NBA history, but the Milwaukee Bucks are hardly a one-man show.Khris Middleton hit a 3-pointer less than 20 seconds into the game, and the team with the league's best record never trailed Saturday night in a 111-95 victory over the Orlando Magic. It's the 13th time the Bucks have led from wire to wire this season.“It's nice to not trail ... but it doesn't really mean anything. We have to keep playing good basketball," Antetokounmpo said.“We were up 27 and they came back, cut the lead to 11. So it doesn't mean anything," the league's reigning MVP added. “We just try to take it quarter by quarter."Antetokounmpo nearly had a triple-double with 18 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists while also falling short of becoming the first player in league history with at least 30 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists in six consecutive games.Antetokounmpo was originally listed with 19 points, but the NBA announced later Saturday... MIAMI (AP) — Most of the top NBA playoff contenders stayed out of the down-to-the-wire frenzy at the trade deadline.Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers beefed up instead. And a slew of other teams — including the Golden State Warriors — made moves with short-term finances and long-term ramifications in mind. The NBA’s 3 p.m. EST deadline Thursday for trades to be consummated did not arrive quietly, with a flurry of deals getting struck in the final hour and at least one other notable move falling apart before reaching the finish line. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A person familiar with the trade says the Philadelphia 76ers have acquired Glenn Robinson and Alec Burks from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for draft picks.Expected to contend for an Eastern Conference championship, the Sixers have slumped and are in sixth place in the standings entering Thursday's games. The Sixers hope to strengthen their bench with the move. Ennis said the tendinitis in his knee has cleared up and he is now 100 percent healthy, the Miami Herald reports.
Ennis attributed the knee tendinitis to his deep struggles in summer league play, during which he shot 29.7 percent from the floor in seven games and turned the ball over 23 times against just 11 assists. The forward said he was only about 65 percent healthy during those games, but believes he'll turn in improved performance during the upcoming preseason games now that his knee is no longer problematic. The former second-round pick is far from a lock to make the Heat roster, and likely wouldn't be much more than a deep bench player even if he escapes camp with a spot on the squad.

Ennis (knee) had the guarantee date on his contract moved from August 1st to the beginning of the regular season, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
The move allows the Heat additional time to make a decision on Ennis' future with the organization. The second-year player struggled during summer league, but it was learned later that knee tendinitis hampered his progression. The Heat is down to 14 players under contract following their transactions. Even if Ennis secures a roster spot this Fall, his spot in the rotation is murky at best, and he may spend bits of the season in the D-League.
Sun Jul 19 201510:33Ennis battling knee tendinitis throughout summer league season
Ennis was battling knee tendinitis throughout the summer league season, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Assistant coach Dan Craig confirmed the lingering knee issues that plagued Ennis in both the Orlando and Las Vegas summer leagues. It was a problem for Ennis last season, and it carried over into summer action. In seven games, he made 2-of-23 three-pointers, shot 30 percent from the field, and scored 8.7 points in 25 minutes per game. The Heat has until August 1st to guarantee his salary, and with rookie Justise Winslow in town, Ennis may face a reduced role this year.

Ennis averaged 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 three-pointers, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 17 minutes per game during 62 regular season games in 2014-15.
Ennis made his debut with the Heat last season after one season with the Perth Wildcats of the Australian Basketball League. After the All-Star break, Ennis saw an increase in action, averaging 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.9 three-pointers, 1.2 assists, 0.3 blocks, and 0.2 steals in 22 minutes per game. He is under team control for another two seasons, but it would likely take some roster changes in free agency or teammates getting injured for Ennis to be a consistent option in standard leagues next season.

Ennis (hip) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Bucks, Jason Lieser of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Ennis has missed extended time off the court but is going to assume his normal role off the bench against the Bucks. However, the rookie is only averaging 14.9 minutes this season and will likely see around that same total if coach Erik Spoelstra decides to insert Ennis into Tuesday's game at all.
