Former University of Detroit guard Ray McCallum Jr signed with the Pistons.McCallum, 25, played 41 games last season with the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies and averaged 3.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 11.6 minutes per game. The 36th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, McCallum spent his first two seasons with the Sacramento Kings and averaged 6.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 20.6 minutes in 113 games (40 starts). In 2014-15, he averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 21.1 minutes in 68 games (30 starts).

The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Ray McCallum and center Alex Stepheson to 10-day contracts Saturday pursuant to the NBA's hardship rule.McCallum averaged 2.2 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.1 assists in 8.3 minutes over 31 games with the San Antonio Spurs this season before he was waived on Feb. 29.Stepheson is averaging 15.9 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.35 blocks in 34.2 minutes in 31 games for the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy this season. His rebounding average is a D-League high and he leads the league in double-doubles (26). He also played three games with the Los Angeles Clippers.

McCallum was dealt to the Spurs for a future second-round pick Thursday, ESPN reports.

McCallum was slated for a negligible role with Kings following the addition of Rajon Rondo to a backcourt that also includes Darren Collison, Ben McLemore, and Marco Belinelli. Fortunately for McCallum, he's joining a team that values rest for its veterans throughout the course of the season, meaning he should earn sustained work behind Tony Parker and Patty Mills in San Antonio. Among 68 appearances last season, McCallum came off the bench on 38 occasions, averaging 4.4 points (on 42 percent shooting), 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 14 minutes during those particular outings.

McCallum averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 0.5 three-pointers, and 0.2 blocks in 21 minutes per game in 68 regular season games during the 2014-15 season.

McCallum showed progress in his second season in the league. He took over the starting point guard role after the All-Star break as result of Darren Collison's (hip) season-ending surgery. McCallum averaged 11.2 points, 4.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.0 steal, 0.8 three-pointers, and 0.2 blocks in 30 minutes during the 30 games he started after the All-Star break. With the whole Kings' roster in limbo due to the DeMarcus Cousins fiasco and coach George Karl's reported interest in Ty Lawson, there's no telling what role McCallum could end up with next season. He is under contract with the Kings through the 2016-17 season.

McCallum exploded for 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 38 minutes of action Friday against the Thunder.

McCallum is averaging 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 steals over the last five games. He's been getting the bulk of the minutes with Darren Collison out for the year, and continues to be an asset in most leagues.

McCallum scored 12 points (4-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-7 FT) with four rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes during Monday's loss to the Grizzlies.

He's now scored in double digits in four of his last five games, averaging 10.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.8 boards and 0.8 steals over that stretch. McCallum isn't setting the world on fire in the Kings' starting lineup, but he's doing enough to have some value in deep leagues.

McCallum's value should sustain for the foreseeable future after the Kings announced Darren Collison (hip) will undergo surgery.

McCallum has started the last four games since the team traded Ramon Sessions to Washington at the deadline. He'll likely hold onto that starting designation, assuming coach George Karl doesn't turn to Andre Miller, who is known to be one of his favorite players. The most likely scenario is McCallum and Miller splitting the point guard minutes fairly evenly, as has been the case since Miller arrived from Washington.

McCallum had 10 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, three assists and three steals in 23 minutes for the Kings.

When Darren Collison comes back McCallum is likely headed back to the bench for a diminished role. Keep checking on Collison's status before deploying McCallum in your lineup.

McCallum started his second straight game, scoring 10 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) with seven rebounds, five assists, one steal and two blocks in 23 minutes Saturday.

Despite starting the last two games, McCallum hasn't topped 25 minutes, with newly acquired Andre Miller playing 22 minutes. His value extends only as long as Darren Collison (hip) is out, but it's tempered by the minutes that George Karl is giving him. A nice short-term add to be sure, but not a game-changer.

McCallum started against the Celtics on Friday for Darren Collison (hip). The backup contributed eight points, five rebounds, and four assists in 25 minutes.

McCallum will likely benefit for the duration of Collison's absence. Although when Collison returns McCallum should head back to the bench and will share backup minutes at point guard with the newly acquired Andre Miller.

McCallum will start at point guard against the Celtics on Friday, Jason Ross of 1140 KHTK reports.

McCallum was the likely starter at point guard following the news that Darren Collison was unavailable due to a hip injury. That is indeed the case, but Andre Miller is also expected to be available, meaning he and David Stockton could also see some minutes at the point.

McCallum is the likely starter Friday against Boston, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports.

With Darren Collison (hip) unlikely to play Friday and backup Ramon Sessions dealt to Washington, McCallum will likely get the start against the Celtics. There's an outside chance new coach George Karl could go with Andre Miller, who was acquired from Washington, though it's unclear whether Miller will even be with the team in time for Friday's matchup.

McCallum put up 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt) and four assists in 21 minutes in the loss to the Bucks on Wednesday.

McCallum has been getting expanded minutes with Darren Collison (hip) out. He has outscored started Ramon Sessions and has shot well. In the last three games, McCallum has averaged 9.7 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field.

McCallum played 26 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's loss to the Bulls, finishing with 11 points (5-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds and four assists.

McCallum got a boost in minutes with Darren Collison out with a hip injury, and took advantage of the extra time to post one of his better games of the season. Considering he's only reached double figures in points five other times this season, and will lose more time on the court as soon as Collison returns, he doesn't have very much fantasy value and should be avoided.

McCallum scored four points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and dished out one assist in Monday's impressive victory over the Denver Nuggets. He played 14 minutes.

McCallum was able to convert a critical layup with 3:18 left to play in a game tied at 96. His stat line isn't anything to write home about, but he gave his team a lead late in the game that they never gave back. Playing time will be hard to come by for McCallum as the third point guard on the depth chart.

The Kings lost out on Isaiah Thomas today -- or whatever you want to call it. That means Ray McCallum is going to be in the rotation and back up Darren Collison. The former Clipper hasn't thrived in ball distribution, so Ray Mac could be a better fit. He'll be worth watching this offseason, especially after his strong finish last season.

The rookie averaged 45 minutes while filling in as a starter, so there's no way to sugarcoat the loss of value with Isaiah Thomas (quad) back in action. IT2 is headed for a payday as a restricted free agent and McCallum could find himself with an unquestioned starting job if the Kings balk at matching his contract.

Ray McCallum turned it around on Wednesday during a loss to the Blazers, making 7-of-15 from the field for 23 points with four boards, eight assists, three steals and four 3-pointers in 43 minutes.

Coach Mike Malone admitted he's been running his rookie guard into the ground, which is not exaggerated at all considering McCallum's 45.4 minutes per game in his previous eight starts. Isaiah Thomas is likely out for the season and the Detroit product has proven to be a must-start player the rest of the way.

He's getting crazy minutes, but his shooting is a real problem, and the production hasn't been matching the minutes. But it sounds like Isaiah Thomas is going to possibly sit out the rest of the season so the minutes should remain for McCallum. If you own him, hope that he puts it all together for a monster line before the season is over.

Ray McCallum got another start for Isaiah Thomas (quad) in the Kings' 107-102 win over the Lakers on Wednesday, scoring a career-best 27 points on 12-of-22 shooting (including a three) with four rebounds and five assists in 46 minutes.

Ray Mac is on a roll and it doesn't really matter that a lot of his success has come in garbage-time elements -- he's killing it for fantasy owners right now. Thomas has slowly moved toward shutdown territory with his quad injury and the Kings really want the rookie to succeed for a number of reasons, including their negotiations with Thomas this summer. He should be owned in all formats for the chance this ride doesn't stop for another handful of games or more.
