Mekel signed a deal with Belgrade's Crvena Zvezda club early last week, David Pick of Basketball Insiders reports.
The 27-year-old Israelian played four games with the Pelicans last season and was most recently spotted playing four games for the Mavericks' summer league squad. He's currently playing with the Israelian National Team at Eurobasket, and he'll likely spend the rest of his career overseas.

Mekel was signed by the Pelicans on Friday and will be available off the bench for Saturday's game against the CLippers.
Mekel will provide depth off the bench for the Pelicans as he's not expected to see significant time on the court. With this in mind, it might be wise to pass over Mekel unless injuries become a problem in New Orleans.

Mekel's deal with the Pacers may be in jeopardy due to issues obtaining a visa, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
Mekel was expected to sign with the Pacers in advance of this weekend's slate of games, but procedural issues may delay his arrival to Boston until Friday. He was originally expected to sign on Thursday, the day that Indiana's waiver from the league to sign a 16th player is set to expire. Due to this new development, the Pacers may be forced to turn to another option to help bolster their backcourt in the absence of George Hill (knee), Rodney Stuckey (foot) and C.J. Watson (foot). However, it's worth noting that Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star still expects the deal to go down.

Mekel is expected to sign with the Pacers, ESPN reports.
Mekel's imminent signing comes in wake of varying injuries to Rodney Stuckey (foot), George Hill (knee), and C.J. Watson (foot) leaving the Pacers' backcourt quite thin. Released by the Mavericks last week, Mekel may be fast-tracked to play meaningful minutes early in his tenure with the Pacers.

Tue Jun 10 201417:06Mavs coach praises Gal Mekel's defense
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said that second-year PG Gal Mekel is one of the Mavs' "best defenders at either of the two guard spots."
Mekel played in 31 games as a rookie before a torn right meniscus ended his season, and he shot only 34.9 percent from the field, but solid defense and steady improvement offensively seem to have impressed his coach. "I like where he's at right now," Carlisle said. "With his improvements and the solid aspects of his game, I like the way he's playing." Mekel will have another chance to impress the Mavs during Summer League in July.

Wed May 28 201409:32Mavs PG Gal Mekel (knee) to play in Las Vegas
Mavericks PG Gal Mekel (knee surgery) will play for Dallas at the Las Vegas summer league in July.
Mekel made one five-minute appearance for the Mavs after having knee surgery in January. Even his stint in the D-League was interrupted by the injury, and his knee was drained again in late March, but he should be 100 percent recovered in time for summer league.

Sat Mar 22 201413:09Gal Mekel (knee) out at least 10 days
Mavericks rookie Gal Mekel had his surgically-repaired knee drained and will not return for at least 10 days.
Mekel was recently called up from the D-League but he still has swelling and soreness in his knee. With veterans Vince Carter and Devin Harris playing well off the bench, and guys like Wayne Ellington and Shane Larkin also available, it would be surprising to see Mekel in the rotation again this season.

Fri Mar 21 201416:49Gal Mekel called up from D-League

His playing time probably won't be there while Devin Harris has stepped up as the sixth man. Mekel can be ignored in all fantasy formats.

Thu Mar 6 201410:46Gal Mekel begins rehab with D-League Legends
Gal Mekel (knee surgery) saw his first game action since his knee surgery Wednesday night.
MThe Mavericks want to see how Mekel holds up in game action with the Legends, so he successfully crossed his first hurdle Wednesday night. The rookie recorded seven points and seven assists with the Texas Legends of the D-League Wednesday night and will stay with the team for at least one more game before the Mavericks decide on next steps. With Monta Ellis, Jose Calderon, and Devin Harris healthy, Mekel won't provide much fantasy value until the 2014-15 season.

Tue Mar 4 201410:29Gal Mekel to begin D-League rehab assignment
Gal Mekel (knee) will rehab with the Texas Legends of the D-League this week.
Mekel underwent a successful practice with the team, but the Mavs want to see how Mekel's surgically repaired knee holds up in game conditions before deciding on next steps. The rookie has only averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 assists in 9.6 minutes per game this season, so fantasy owners can feel free to push his name into the back of their minds until next season.

Mon Feb 17 201417:07Gal Mekel goes through a practice session
Gal Mekel (knee) went through a practice session on Monday.
It's his first practice since surgery back on Jan. 17. Mekel's arthroscopic surgery was on his lateral meniscus and the team has already announced they will send him on a rehab assignment in the D-League. He has very little fantasy appeal while Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon are healthy, especially with Devin Harris playing well.

Sun Feb 9 201412:41Gal Mekel will play in D-League upon return
Rookie guard Gal Mekel (knee) will play in the D-League upon his return following knee surgery.
"He's making steady progress," Rick Carlisle said. "I would say he's ahead of schedule based on what the expectations were with the scope." The rookie from Israel has played in just 30 games this season and is averaging 2.4 points and 2.1 assists in 9.6 minutes per game, on 34.5 percent shooting. That tells you about all you need to know with regards to his fantasy value, waiver fodder.

Fri Jan 17 201415:46Gal Mekel (meniscus tear) out indefinitely
Gal Mekel had surgery on his right knee for a lateral meniscus tear on Friday and will be out indefinitely.
Most lateral meniscus surgeries involve about six weeks of recovery time, which would put Mekel at around an early-March target to return. He was playing well with a career-high seven dimes on Monday, but the Mavs shouldn't miss his 9.6 minutes per game too much. Shane Larkin will get some extra minutes on Friday before Devin Harris (toe) can return.

Gal Mekel will not play against the Suns due to right knee soreness.
He had some soreness in Wednesday's game against the Clippers. The good news is the Mavericks have Shane Larking back from an ankle sprain and he'll be able to back up Jose Calderon at the point. While he's fun to watch, Mekel has barely any fantasy value.

Sat Nov 30 201323:57Gal Mekel struggles in start for Calderon
Gal Mekel started in place of Jose Calderon Saturday and hit just 3-of-12 shots for six points and seven assists in a loss to the Timberwolves.
Mekel wasn't shy about shooting it tonight, but couldn't get them to fall. Calderon's day-to-day with an ankle injury and as long as he's on the verge of playing again, Mekel can be ignored in all but the deepest of leagues.

Sun Nov 24 201309:50Gal Mekel falls out of Mavericks' rotation
Gal Mekel hasn't played in the Mavericks' past three games, as Shane Larkin has claimed his minutes at backup PG.
Mekel averaged 2.5 assists and 1.5 turnovers in 13 minutes per game before falling out of the rotation. "I'm not sure what everybody's expectations were of a guy who's a good European player coming to the NBA," said Rick Carlisle. "But he . did a solid job when he was out there. He's proven to me that he's a guy who's going to be ready." He shot just 20 percent from downtown and fantasy owners can safely ignore him.

Thu Nov 21 201304:00Gal Mekel didn't play on Wednesday
Gal Mekel did not play against the Rockets on Wednesday.
He was a DNP-CD (coach's decision) and looks to be leapfrogged by fellow rookie Shane Larkin. If you have Mekel on your deep roster, go ahead and make the swap.
