Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball exited Los Angeles' summer league semifinal against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday in Las Vegas due to right calf tightness.Before leaving the game for good midway through the third quarter, Ball piled up 16 points and 10 assists, helping the Lakers advance to the final with a 108-98 win. Los Angeles will play the Portland Trail Blazers for the title on Monday.According to ESPN.com, Ball was available to play late in the game Sunday, but he was held out.The crowd in Las Vegas to watch Ball and the Lakers on Sunday, ESPN reported, included the team's president of basketball operations, Magic Johnson, plus general manager Rob Pelinka and coach Luke Walton. Assistant coach Jud Buechler is running the summer-league team.Ball, 19, was the second overall pick in the NBA Draft this year out of UCLA. He has recorded two triple-doubles in the summer league.Another Lakers first-round rookie, forward Kyle Kuzma, led the team with 24 points Sunday, and guard Matt Thomas scored 20.Guard Dennis Smith Jr., also a first-round pick this summer, paced the Mavericks with 21 points and six assists.Forward Jarnell Stokes scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to power the Trail Blazers to an 87-82 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the other semifinal. Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks, a rookie second-round pick, scored a team-high 16 points in the loss.

The New Orleans Pelicans signed guard Bryce Dejean-Jones and waived forward Jarnell Stokes on Friday.Dejean-Jones played under back-to-back, 10-day contracts with the Pelicans leading up to last weekend's All-Star break.The 6-foot-6, 203-pound Dejean-Jones, 23, has appeared in 11 games (eight starts) for the Pelicans, averaging 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game.Prior to joining New Orleans, Dejean-Jones played for the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League, appearing in nine games (seven starts) and averaging 19.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals in 31.1 minutes per game.The 6-9, 255-pound Stokes, 22, was acquired from the Miami Heat, along with cash considerations, shortly before Thursday's NBA trade deadline in exchange for a future second-round draft pick.Stokes has appeared in 26 career NBA games with Miami and Memphis, holding career averages of 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.5 minutes per game.

The Miami Heat made a pair of minor cost-reducing trades on Thursday, trading rookie forward-center Jarnell Stokes to the New Orleans Pelicans for a conditional second-round draft pick and cash and dealing guard Brian Roberts to the Portland Trail Blazers for a second-round draft choice, according to reports.By trading Stokes and Roberts, the Heat are now under the luxury tax line and have saved $6 million dollars according to Yahoo.Stokes is making a league minimum $845,089 and has a nonguaranteed contract at the league minimum for next season. Trading him helps Miami reduce its luxury tax bill to approximately $2.1 million but the Heat are still above the tax line. Stokes appeared in seven games for the Heat. Miami acquired him from the Memphis Grizzlies in November in a four-player deal that involved point guard Mario Chalmers.Roberts was obtained in Monday's three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets and Grizzlies. He is averaging 4.8 points and 1.3 assists this season and has averaged 7.4 points in 252 games over four seasons for New Orleans and Charlotte.

The Miami Heat recalled forward/center Jarnell Stokes from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League on Sunday.Stokes has appeared in 16 games (all starts) in five different stints with the Skyforce this season, helping them to a 14-2 record over that span while averaging 20.6 points and 10.2 rebounds, and shooting 67.3 percent from the field.

The Miami Heat traded guard Mario Chalmers and forward James Ennis to the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday in exchange for guard Beno Udrih, forward Jarnell Stokes and a second-round pick, Yahoo Sports reported.The deal, which would save the Heat $6 million in luxury tax payments, is pending NBA approval, according to the report.Chalmers is in the final year of his contract and not part of the Heat's future plans. The Grizzlies hope the 29-year-old veteran can serve as a capable backup to point guard Mike Conley.In his eighth NBA season, Chalmers has career averages of 8.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. He was averaging 5.5 points and 3.2 assists in six games for the Heat this season.The 33-year-old Udrih is averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists in eight games this season.The 21-year-old Stokes has played in two games and has two rebounds. As a rookie last season, he saw action in 19 games and averaged 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds.The 25-year-old Ennis has one assist in three games this season. He made his NBA debut as a rookie last season and averaged 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 62 games.

Stokes (illness) collected 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT) and five rebounds over 16 minutes in Monday's 91-81 victory over the Cavs.

Stokes has followed up a solid summer league stint with two productive performances over his first pair of exhibition outings. The second-year power forward is vying to move up the depth chart and become starter Zach Randolph's primary backup, but will likely have to vault veteran Brandon Wright to do so. Stokes' 67 percent shooting (8-for-12) over his first two games and five defensive boards Monday are certainly a positive step towards that goal. Stokes' exact 2015 role figures to crystallize further over the remainder of the exhibition season.

Stokes is dealing with an illness and was not available for Tuesday's preseason game, Peter Fleischer of FOX 13 Memphis reports.

There is no word on the exact nature of the illness, but he should have enough time to get healthy for the start of the regular season.

Stokes averaged 12.0 points (55% FG, 72% FT), 6.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 28 minutes per game during five games at the Orlando Summer League.

Stokes started all five contests, and despite committing 2.4 turnovers per game, it was a solid summer league showing for the soon-to-be sophomore. If Stokes can become more comfortable offensively heading into the 2015-16 season, it's possible he'll find his way into the Grizzlies' regular rotation, something he was unable to accomplish as a rookie.

Stokes averaged 3.0 points (56.8 FG, 0.0 3Pt, 53.6 FT), 1.8 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in seven minutes per game during 19 regular season games with the Grizzlies in 2014-15.

Stokes struggled to earn minutes as a rookie. However, in 23 D-League games with the Iowa Energy Stokes averaged 15.1 points (61.7 FG, 0.0 3Pt, 69.8 FT), 11.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.8 blocks in 32 minutes per game. He's still extremely raw, and will likely continue to work on his game in the summer league.

Stokes failed to the see the court against Portland in the first round of the playoffs.

Stokes only managed to play in 19 regular season games and it would be surprising if he all of a sudden found his way into the rotation during the playoffs. Consider other options accordingly.

Stokes returned from the D-League on Monday, Kevin Lipe of the Memphis Flyer reports.

Stokes spent just shy of two weeks with the Iowa Energy, for whom he's averaged 16.0 points and 14.9 rebounds this season. The Memphis native, and Tennessee product, is yet to make much of an impact at the NBA level, however.

Stokes was reassigned to the Iowa Energy of the D-League on Tuesday, NBA.com reports.

Stokes will head to the D-League for the sixth time this season. He's played in only 17 for the Grizzlies in this his rookie season.

Stokes scored 13 points (4-6 FG, 5-9 FT) to go along with eight rebounds, one assist, three steals and one block in 22 minutes during the Grizzlies' 107-87 loss versus the Wizards on Thursday.

With starting big men Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph receiving the night off for rest Stokes got a chance to showcase his skills, and despite three turnovers and four missed free throws he played well. Still, this was Stokes' first NBA action since back on January 14 versus the Nets, and he's appeared in only 17 games this season.

Stokes was recalled from the D-League on Thursday, Rob Fischer of Sports 56 WHBQ in Memphis reports.

The rookie out of Tennessee hasn't played an NBA game since mid-January, but with four players out - three resting - the Grizzlies called up Stokes and Russ Smith to provide depth off the bench.

Stokes was assigned to the D-League on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies just signed Tyrus Thomas to a 10-day contract, and it seems for now, Thomas will slot in to Stokes' role and the rookie will be sent to the D-League for more playing time.

Stokes was a CD-DNP Friday against the Pelicans.

Stokes had started while Zach Randolph (knee) was sidelined, but even as the starter he was playing very limited minutes. Randolph's return was bound to hurt Stokes' value, but a DNP is worse than what would normally be expected.

Stokes started and scored three points (1-4 FG, 1-2 FT) to go along with one rebound in 17 minutes Monday against the Knicks.

Stokes moved into the starting lineup in place of Jon Leuer, but didn't make much of the opportunity. Stokes doesn't warrant much fantasy consideration at this time.

Stokes was recalled by the Grizzlies on Sunday.

Stokes has had numerous stints with the Iowa Energy in the D-League over the course of this season. In terms of the NBA, he has appeared in just 9 games with an average time of 3.9 minutes spent on the court during those contests. As a result, he's a hard player to justify owning in most formats.

Stokes was reassigned to Iowa of the D-League on Monday, NBA.com reports.

Stokes has appeared in only six games for the Grizzlies thus far and will head back to Iowa for his second stint of the season with the Energy. In one previous appearance, the Tennessee product went for 13 points and 13 rebounds in 35 minutes.

Stokes (illness) returned to the lineup and contributed one rebound and one assist in one minute during the Grizzlies' 117-100 win versus the Celtics on Friday.

It was another blowout win for the Grizzlies, and that's why Stokes saw time. Even if Kosta Koufos, Jon Leuer, Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph were to suffer an injury, coach Dave Joerger has already displayed a willingness to play Tayshaun Prince at power forward. Simply said, a lot will have to happen in order for Stokes to become worthy of consideration in fantasy during his rookie season.
