Sun Mar 20 202217:19Elfrid Payton Entering Starting Lineup Against Kings
Phoenix Suns guard Elfrid Payton will start against the Kings on Sunday night. Chris Paul (thumb) won't be back anytime soon, and Cameron Payne (illness) is dealing with a non-COVID-sickness, so Payton will be in line to get some extra work. However, despite the increase in minutes, Aaron Holiday may be the more attractive fantasy option as the leader of the team's second unit.

Wed Dec 29 202120:47Elfrid Payton Won't Play Wednesday
Phoenix Suns guard Elfrid Payton has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Payton is back in protocols after coming back on Monday. He didn't exactly have a huge role when healthy anyway. Cameron Payne will see more minutes in his absence. He could be a low-end streaming option, but there are probably better options available in most formats.

Mon Aug 9 202122:22Elfrid Payton Agrees To Deal With Phoenix
Free-agent guard Elfrid Payton has agreed to a one-year deal to join the Suns. This will be Payton's second stint in Phoenix, playing 19 games there after the Orlando Magic traded him during the 2017-18 campaign. The 27-year-old is currently averaging 10.9 points, 5.2 assists, and 1.3 steals throughout seven seasons of service in the league. However, although Payton is a capable producer at times, he probably won't see much time on the floor this year to be relevant in any fantasy format.

Tue May 25 202118:51Doc Rivers baffled by continued criticism of Ben Simmons
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Doc Rivers can’t fathom criticism of Ben Simmons, especially after the three-time All-Star became just the sixth player in NBA history to have at least 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a playoff game. “Only in Philadelphia,” Rivers said Tuesday when asked about the critics. “If you guys don’t know the treasure you have by now, then shame on everyone because he’s been fantastic for us. He creates points every single night for us. When Ben was on the floor, we were really good. “I’m amazed that people don’t see what he does. We’re so caught up in the amount of points he scored. ... Does it matter if Ben had all 125? Would we be mad that Joel (Embiid) didn’t score? Who cares who scores as long as we’re scoring. ... When Ben plays, we score more points.” Simmons scored six points in Philadelphia's 125-118 victory over Washington in Game 1 of their first-round series opener. He missed all six of his free throws and his shooting deficiencies sometimes overshadow his all-around... [More]
Sun Feb 7 202118:04AP source: Knicks to acquire Rose, who rejoins Thibodeau
NEW YORK (AP) — Derrick Rose is reuniting with Tom Thibodeau after a trade that brings him back to New York. The Knicks agreed to acquire the former NBA MVP from the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, a person with knowledge of the details said. The Knicks will send Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round pick to the Pistons, the person told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade was not yet official. Once it is, it reunites Rose with Thibodeau, his coach in Chicago when the guard became the youngest MVP in NBA history at 22 in 2011. Rose later spent one season in New York, averaging 18 points in 2016-17, before rejoining Thibodeau again in Minnesota. He is now in his second season in Detroit. The deal was first reported by ESPN and The Athletic. Rose was one of the NBA's most explosive players early in his career, the superstar who led Thibodeau's defensive-minded teams to the best record in the league. But a series of knee injuries followed and neither... [More]

Thu Nov 19 202014:50Knicks waive group of veterans ahead of NBA free agency
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks waived veterans Elfrid Payton, Taj Gibson and Wayne Ellington and declined their team option on Bobby Portis on Thursday, just a year after signing them in free agency. The Knicks signed all the veterans as part of a seven-player class in the summer of 2019. They enter free agency Friday with only Julius Randle and Reggie Bullock remaining from the group, having traded Marcus Morris to the Clippers during the season. Former Knicks President Steve Mills insisted at the start of last season that the Knicks got the players they wanted with that group. But successor Leon Rose cut most of them as he prepares to reshape one of the league's worst rosters. The moves have them well-positioned for free agency. Portis' option would have paid him $15.8 million in 2020-21. Gibson was due $9.5 million and Ellington and Payton were each set to earn $8 million. The Knicks also waived forward Kenny Wooten and declined their option on guard Theo Pinson. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP-Sports

Tue Jun 9 202016:06With season over, Rose can begin work of rebuilding Knicks
NEW YORK (AP) — Leon Rose took over as Knicks president on March 2, which should have given him a month and a half of season to evaluate his team.He got a week and a half. The Knicks played only six games before the season was suspended because of the coronavirus. There will be no more for them, because they are not among the 22 teams who will resume in Florida. So with another losing season over, the longtime player agent can begin making changes that can perhaps finally move the Knicks in a positive direction. The Knicks finished 21-45, extending the worst stretch in franchise history by missing the playoffs for the seventh straight season. The turmoil started early, even by Knicks standards. Coach David Fizdale was fired just 22 games into his second season and Steve Mills was dismissed as president in February. Mike Miller guided the team as interim coach after Fizdale's departure and had the Knicks defending and competing much better, but Rose is likely to search for yet another new coach.His... [More]
Tue Feb 4 202017:15Knicks fire Steve Mills, begin search for new president
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks made a big move before the trade deadline — by getting rid of the guy who would have been making their deals. They fired President Steve Mills on Tuesday, shaking up the front office at a most unusual time.General manager Scott Perry will take over control of the basketball operations, with the team announcing that it would begin an immediate search for a new president just two days before the trade deadline.Mills has held a number of titles at Madison Square Garden since 1999, where he came after spending 16 years at the NBA. But this was the first time his role included full control of basketball decisions, and now MSG executive chairman James Dolan will look for someone else to do it.“I will always be grateful to Jim for giving me the chance to represent this franchise and I’m disappointed we were unable to achieve success for New York," Mills said. “I would like to thank the staff and the players for their hard work during my tenure. Fri Jan 31 202016:37A year after Porzingis deal, things remain bleak for Knicks
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — Marcus Morris talked tough in the preseason, when the New York Knicks made their annual boasts that things were going to be different. He spoke softly Friday, apologizing for his misplaced machismo on another night the Knicks embarrassed themselves on the court and in the locker room.Exactly a year after trading Kristaps Porzingis, it’s the same old basketball story in New York, nothing more than a rumored stop for superstars in the offseason, and the site of very little success in the regular season. The latest low point was Wednesday, when the Memphis Grizzlies rolled to a 127-106 victory in a game that featured an altercation in the final minute after New York’s Elfrid Payton shoved Jae Crowder as he was attempting a shot, and frustrated fans chanted “Sell the team! “Sell the team!” with owner James Dolan sitting in his baseline seat.Things got even worse afterward, when Payton said he’d do the same thing again and Morris mocked Crowder for playing with “female... He said after the game he would do the same thing again, believing Crowder was disrespecting the game.Morris, who shoved Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant, later apologized on Twitter for his remarks about women. Mon Sep 30 201915:23Knicks say they built the team they wanted in free agency
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — Free agency was only a few hours old when the New York Knicks acknowledged their fans' disappointment.Three months later, the Knicks have changed their tune. Not only was free agency a success, they say, but fans are going to forget about who the Knicks didn't get because they're going to love who they did."These are guys that our fans are going to like, the toughness that they bring every day when they come to the court to play for the Knicks," team President Steve Mills said Monday. The Knicks signed seven new players in free agency, adding Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington and Reggie Bullock. But by that time, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving had already committed to Brooklyn in the early hours of free agency, and Mills released a statement that night saying he understood that fans could be disappointed but that the team remained confident in its plans. And though the Knicks had enough money to afford two top free... NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Pelicans have reached an agreement in principle to make former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin New Orleans' new executive vice president of basketball operations, three people familiar with the situation said Friday. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because contract negotiations are ongoing and no announcement has been made.Griffin will take over for former Pelicans general manger Dell Demps, who was fired in the middle of his ninth season with the club — a few weeks after All-Star Anthony Davis' trade request in late January.Griffin's agreement to join New Orleans, which was first reported by ESPN, puts him at the center of the club's effort to find the best deal for Davis. Griffin also could decide the fate of Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry, who has two years left on his contract. The 45-year-old Griffin was the Cavaliers' GM from 2014 to 2017, during which LeBron James returned from Miami to Cleveland and the Cavs... Wed Apr 10 201914:51Pelicans, Davis enter offseason with major changes looming
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — A grinning Anthony Davis emerged from the Pelicans' weight room holding one of his white No. 23 game jerseys and tossed it over the shoulder of guard Jrue Holiday, mumbling, "so you won't forget about me," as he walked away. While Davis made his share of good memories during seven seasons — and six All-Star selections — in New Orleans, the Pelicans will be eager to forget the lame-duck, unceremonious manner in which his tenure with the club ended.A new era is on the horizon and the Pelicans appear eager to see it begin."Really excited," Holiday asserted when asked to share his thoughts about what has the making of a busy offseason for the Pelicans, who appear to be on the cusp of hiring a new general manager. "Obviously with opportunities in this offseason to resign guys or pickup new guys, to see what happens with the future with upper management, everything's up in the air."Plagued by injuries to key players, the Pelicans were struggling to stay in striking distance... Thu Feb 21 201920:30Pelicans interim GM: NBA rules compel club to play Davis
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — When the Pelicans finished practice on Thursday, Anthony Davis went into coach Alvin Gentry's office, followed later by interim general manager Danny Ferry. As they spoke, privacy shades on windows that otherwise offer a view of practice courts were pulled down. After the meeting, Gentry said Davis was slated to start at Indiana on Friday night. Later, Ferry said Davis, if healthy, would continue to play for the Pelicans — albeit in a scaled-back role."League rules made it clear that Anthony has to play," Ferry said on a conference call with New Orleans reporters on Thursday night. "As we've done previously, we'll continue to follow their lead. But we'll also be focused on the future of the team. Therefore, you'll see a reduction in Anthony's minutes."That reduction could even mean sitting out Davis entirely for certain games, such as when the Pelicans are at home, not on national television and playing for the second time in two nights. That will be the case on Saturday... [More]

But beyond that, the Pelicans weren't ready to shed much light on how they plan to handle having their disaffected six-time All-Star on the roster for the final seven weeks of the regular season."He's playing tomorrow," Gentry said repeatedly in response to varying questions about Davis' status with the club. "He's playing the game tomorrow. Let's get to that one and then we can worry about everything else."On Saturday night, the Pelicans are scheduled to host LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.Davis, who is represented by the same agent as James, has requested a trade.
