Thu Jan 2520:43Dwight Powell Ruled Out For Friday
Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell (eye) has been ruled out ahead of Friday's game against the Atlanta Hawks. The big man is set to miss another game while he continues to deal with a left eye issue. Maxi Kleber (toe) is listed as probable, but he should be able to suit up for this game. Kleber figures to take on a majority of the backup center minutes in the absence of Powell. However, Kleber probably won't have strong streaming appeal even with increased playing time.

Wed Nov 8 202320:21Dwight Powell To Start On Wednesday
Dallas Mavericks forward Dwight Powell will move into the starting five ahead of Wednesday's game against the Toronto Raptors. The Mavs have a void to fill with Dereck Lively II (illness) unavailable for this game. The expectation was that Maxi Kleber (toe) would draw the start in this game. However, that won't be the case as Powell gets the nod in the starting five on Wednesday. Instead, Kleber will come off the bench for his first game back from his toe injury. Fantasy managers looking for a possible streaming option might want to consider Powell as a low-end option.

Wed Oct 25 202318:53Jaden Hardy, Dwight Powell Both Listed As Probable
Dallas Mavericks guard Jaden Hardy (ankle) and center Dwight Powell (illness) are now being categorized as probable for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. Hardy has an ankle sprain stemming from last week's practice while Powell is fighting through an illness, but the two role players sound likely to play in the opener. Hardy's DFS prospects are dependent on Luka Doncic's (calf) status Wednesday, as he remains questionable after practicing earlier this week and participating in Wednesday's shootaround. Late swap figures to play a key factor here. Powell is set to come off the bench, likely ceding his starting duty to first-round rookie Dereck Lively II at the campaign's beginning.

Tue Oct 24 202318:57Dwight Powell Iffy To Play Against Spurs
Dallas Mavericks forward/center Dwight Powell (illness) is considered questionable for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. Powell is dealing with an illness, leaving his status for the opener in a state of flux. The 32-year-old veteran may already be lined up to back up No. 12 overall pick Dereck Lively II, who would only handle additional minutes if Powell is absent Wednesday. Maxi Kleber and Richaun Holmes would also see extra playing time if Powell cannot go. Whoever starts Dallas' opener down low figures to have their hands full with No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, so there might be limited fantasy appeal in this case, anyway. Powell belongs on most fantasy waiver wires in a crowded Mavericks frontcourt, in any event.

Thu Apr 6 202310:48Time To Hang It Up: Five NBA Players That Should Retire After The Season
Basketball is a fast-paced game. While the court's dimensions are smaller than baseball and football fields, there is no room to relax because players must exert effort on offense and defense. NBA's Advanced Stats reveal that LaMelo Ball trumps other ballers in the distance covered, averaging 2.77 miles per game. Fred VanVleet is not far behind at 2.76.Therefore, basketball players must be in good condition to render significant minutes. Conversely, injuries are also a dime a dozen because of the extensive regular season. Failing to stay in shape could mean reduced playing time or an abrupt end to their career. But at some point, Father Time wins, no matter how much a player wants to delay the inevitable. These players have rendered extensive NBA careers but are far from the peak of their capabilities. Sadly, retirement after the 2022-23 season is a strong possibility because they are not steady contributors anymore or hardly step into the court. However, their younger teammates should pick their brains and learn from their limitless wisdom.

Thaddeus Young

Young won the NBA Hustle Award during the 2020-21 season thanks to his accumulated hustle stats like taking screens and diving for loose balls. But that recognition is a nice consolation for a man who nearly averaged a double-double (15.1 points, nine rebounds) for the 2015-16 season with the Brooklyn Nets.https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1612227070108516355The 16-year veteran has been touted as a do-it-all player on both ends. Unfortunately, his production has significantly dropped in his second season with the Toronto Raptors. He is averaging only 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game through March 11. He hasn't played since, even if he is on the active roster, because of ... [More]

Wed Dec 21 202215:08Dwight Powell Available Wednesday
Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell (thigh) is ready to return to action Wednesday versus Minnesota. He has been sidelined for the past two games with a left thigh contusion. Christian Wood has picked up a pair of starts in his absence and could now head back to the bench, although with Dorian Finney-Smith (groin) out, there's a chance both players are among the starters. Powell has been the starting center for most of the matches this season, but he hasn't provided a lot for fantasy managers, averaging 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds. He averages fewer than 17 minutes a night, so Powell's return actually doesn't affect Wood much.

Sat Dec 17 202207:38Dwight Powell Leaves With Thigh Injury
Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell suffered a left thigh contusion in Friday's game against Portland and had to exit after playing for only 12 minutes. Whilst on the court, the 31-year-old was able to notch five points with two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Dallas plays again Saturday against Cleveland and head coach Jason Kidd has said that Powell is "probably out" for the contest. It's a bad blow for Powell, but it's great news for Christian Wood, who started the second half in Powell's place. Unless Kidd has some strange thoughts, Wood should be a starter again Saturday, and that sets him up nicely for a big performance. He already crushed it with 32 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks Friday. The injury also allows JaVale McGee to re-enter the rotation.

Mon Jun 7 202118:22Mavs focus on help for Doncic after another 1st-round exit
Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks are out in the first round again. The urgency to get their young superstar enough help for some deep playoff runs will grow fast, although the Mavericks are about to buy themselves time in pursuit of the franchise's first postseason series victory since the 2011 NBA Finals. Doncic left little doubt Monday he would sign a five-year extension expected to be worth more than $200 million when free agency opens this summer. That contract would start in 2022-23. Meantime, the Mavericks have to decide if Kristaps Porzingis is good enough to make them title contenders as the No. 2 to Doncic after the 7-foot-3 Latvian with a maximum contract was barely a role player in a seven-game loss to the Clippers. While Doncic averaged an NBA-best 35.7 points per game in the first round, Porzingis' production wasn't even close to last season's first-round loss to LA. His per-game averages were down by nearly 12 points and more than three rebounds. Porzingis was a 2018 All-Star... [More]
Thu May 20 202101:57Mavs trying to end 10-year run without playoff series win
DALLAS (AP) — Asked about the decade without a playoff series victory since coaching the Dallas Mavericks to their only championship, Rick Carlisle quickly mentioned the rebuilding phase that accompanied the drought. When a similar question came up a day later, the Dallas coach showed he might be ready to quit answering them. “I keep getting asked about is there pressure to advance, hell yeah there’s pressure to advance!” Carlisle said, his voice rising. “But we’re a championship organization. We’re not just looking to advance one round in the playoffs.” Luka Doncic and the Mavericks will seek the franchise's elusive series victory starting Saturday at the Los Angeles Clippers in a first-round rematch from the Florida bubble last year, when Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and company won in six games. Dirk Nowitzki, Doncic's predecessor as the Euro superstar in Dallas, led a six-game series victory over Miami's LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in the 2011 NBA Finals. Nobody could have imagined the... Fri May 7 202100:53Doncic, Mavs hold on to beat Irving, Nets 113-109 for sweep
DALLAS (AP) — Luka Doncic scored 24 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 23 and the Dallas Mavericks beat the Brooklyn Nets 113-109 on Thursday night to finish a season sweep. Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 45 points for the Nets. They lost a season-high fourth straight game and dropped two games behind Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia. Dorian Finney-Smith scored 17 points as the Mavericks reached 10 games over .500 for the first time this season and held on to the fifth seed in the West. Dallas (38-28) is a game ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland (both 37-29) with six to go after LA's 118-94 loss to the Clippers. The Mavericks hold the tiebreaker on the defending NBA champs but not the Trail Blazers. One of the three teams will be forced into the play-in tournament as the No. 7 seed. “This is all experience we need,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “There’s a lot of situations that are new. Last year at this time we were locked into the seventh position and we weren’t going lower.... [More]

Last year at this time we were locked into the seventh position and we weren’t going lower. This year is a whole different ballgame. There’s so much in play. Dallas holds the tiebreaker on the defending NBA champs. Kevin Durant had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Nets with each team missing an injured star: James Harden for Brooklyn and Kristaps Porzingis for Dallas. In the Mavericks' 115-98 win at Brooklyn in February, Harden played while Durant and Irving were out. Doncic had 10 rebounds, and one of his eight assists came on a layup by Dwight Powell that put Dallas ahead for good at 94-92 and started a 7-0... [More]
Tue Jan 26 202100:00Porter, Nuggets beat Mavericks 117-113 after Murray ejection
DALLAS (AP) — Michael Porter Jr. tied his season high with 30 points and the Denver Nuggets overcame Jamal Murray's ejection for a shot to the groin of Dallas guard Tim Hardaway Jr. to beat the Mavericks 117-113 on Monday night. Porter was 6 of 10 from 3-point range, including a go-ahead bucket to start a decisive 7-0 run late in the fourth quarter after the Mavericks had rallied immediately following the incident involving Murray and Hardaway. Luka Doncic had 35 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high 16 assists for his league-leading sixth triple-double. The Dallas star broke a tie for the NBA lead with Nikola Jokic, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets. The Nuggets improved to 3-0 on a five-game road trip with their fourth straight victory and are 7-2 since an overtime loss to the Mavericks in Denver. It was the third game in four days, and the first two went to overtime in Phoenix. “This was character,” coach Mike Malone said. “Coming off two overtime games in Phoenix. And... [More]

Murray got up and reached between Hardaway’s legs with his right arm, prompting Hardaway to double over. The official closest to the contact blew the whistle to stop play with 4:51 left in the third quarter and... [More]
Tue Dec 1 202019:35Mavs talk tough by adding protectors for young star Doncic
Luka Doncic's first experience with the playoffs ended with questions about whether Marcus Morris of the Los Angeles Clippers was intentionally trying to hurt the young Dallas sensation in a first-round series won by LA. The Mavericks might have hinted at what they thought through trades and draft picks during this abbreviated offseason. Dallas acquired James Johnson and his black belt in karate from Oklahoma City in a three-team trade after using the club's first-round draft choice at No. 18 overall on Josh Green, who was a strong defender in his only season at Arizona. The Mavericks also sent their best 3-pointer shooter in Seth Curry to Philadelphia for Josh Richardson, described by coach Rick Carlisle as an “edgy guy who is a terrific defender.” “I don’t really take well to my brothers being messed with, but I’m not an instigator in situations so I’m not going to be out there just trying to get in people’s faces and do a lot of extra stuff,” Richardson said on the opening day of training... MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Bucks guard George Hill said the importance of Wisconsin in the upcoming election caused him to fly back here this weekend to assist in a local voting drive. Hill, who lives in San Antonio, worked alongside about 50 volunteers from the Milwaukee-based organization Common Ground walking through local neighborhoods Saturday to encourage people to vote early. “This (state) could make or break the election,” Hill said. “To spend a couple of dollars to get on a flight to come back here, to get out and knock on doors and go around this city, to show them that I care for them just as much as they care for themselves, and show them that we need them, we need them, we need their voices, we need their communities to be better and things like that, it’s all worth it at the end of the day.” Hill wore a shirt with the message “VOTE” and a Bucks logo plus a mask with the message “Votes Count In the 414” as he walked through several blocks in various neighborhoods with a group... Tue Sep 1 202016:38Mavs set title sights with Euro stars after playoff return
Luka Doncic was impressive in his playoff debut on an injured ankle. Kristaps Porzingis left the NBA bubble amid unsettling questions over whether his knees will allow him to be the trusty sidekick in Dallas. While the Mavericks appear on track to become championship contenders led by the young European stars, there are issues while they await the unknown start of next season — the 10th since their only title, and their last playoff series victory.“We’re on the climb,” coach Rick Carlisle said after the Mavericks were eliminated in Game 6 of a first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers. “You never know the exact timing of things like that. That’s our passion. That’s our obsession.”Doncic averaged 31 points, 9.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists in the playoffs with the bubble's most spectacular moment so far: a step-back 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Clippers in overtime in Game 4 on a left ankle he sprained in Game 3.After making his first All-Star game and being named a finalist...
