Oklahoma City Thunder forward Mitch McGary was handed a five-game suspension to begin the 2016-17 season for violating the league's drug policy, the NBA announced on Friday.McGary dealt with several injuries and was limited to just 20 games last season, averaging just 1.3 points and 0.9 rebounds in limited playing time.The 24-year-old also removed himself from the team for a few weeks at the conclusion of the campaign due to a "personal matter." In his last game on March 18, McGary scored four points in 6:16 of playing time in a 111-97 victory over Philadelphia.The 21st overall pick of the 2014 draft, McGary is averaging 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in his two seasons with Oklahoma City.

McGary played with the Thunder for the Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals in 24 minutes per game through four contests.

Last season, McGary averaged 6.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.5 blocks, and 0.5 steals in 15 minutes per game through 32 games. With a trimmed-down frame and his injury-ridden rookie season behind him, McGary could look to be a solid contributor off the bench next season.

McGary is focusing on extending his shooting range to the corner three-point lines, the Oklahoman reports

McGary shot 30 percent from midrange last season and missed both three-point attempts. He confessed he still wasn't completely comfortable straying to the three-point line, capping his range to about 15 feet. Through three summer league games, he's averaging 11.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game while shooting 57 percent from the floor.

McGary has lost nearly 30 pounds since the end of the season, The Oklahoman reports. "I'm sick of being injured and not being able to play at full strength 100 percent," McGary said. "So this summer was really key for me. I stayed in Oklahoma City and just been working my tail off to get into shape."

McGary played just eight games in his final college season because of a back injury, then essentially missed the first three months of his rookie campaign with foot and tibia issues. He still turned in a promising debut, averaging 6.3 points, 5.2 boards and 0.5 blocks over 15.2 minutes in 32 games. A slimmer frame could help McGary earn a key role off the bench, but the Oklahoma City frontcourt is pretty crowded.

McGary missed 50 games during his rookie season, when he averaged 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game for the Thunder.

McGary, who played just eight games in college last season due to a back injury, sustained a foot fracture during the preseason and suffered tibia inflammation shortly after. As a result, McGary played just eight NBA minutes prior to Feb. 8, when he surprisingly went for 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Clippers. McGary followed that performance with another double-double the next night, showing why he was selected in the first-round last summer even despite his durability concerns. As the Thunder closed the season, McGary often provided a noticeable spark off the Oklahoma City bench, largely due to his well-rounded offensive game. If McGary can remain healthy and build on his second-half momentum this offseason, he could be a decent late round sleeper pick in fantasy leagues next season.

McGary had seven points and 10 rebounds over 26 minutes Tuesday against the Lakers.

McGary puts up solid rebounding numbers when he's on the floor, but his scoring can be up-and-down. The amount of injuries on the Thunder should ensure McGary a solid amount of minutes for the time being, but his scoring is inconsistent at best.

McGary returned to the bench on Sunday, scoring 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-3 FT) with eight rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes against the Heat.

McGary returned to the bench with Enes Kanter (ankle) returning from injury. McGary has been effective when he plays this season, but has played sporatic minutes this season making him a risky fantasy option. Even though he played 26 minutes tonight, he is not likely to maintain this level of playing time on a consistent basis for the remainder of the season as long as Kanter and Steven Adams are healthy. In daily games, McGary should be a cheap option for when Kanter or Adams are out of the lineup.

McGary will head back to the bench for Sunday's game against the Heat with Enes Kanter (ankle) returning to the court.

McGary enjoyed a stint in the starting lineup with Kanter out of the lineup but it appears that McGary will take a backseat to Kanter moving forward. Although, the Thunder are dealing with multiple injuries to their frontcourt so the rookie could still see extended time off the bench.

McGary got into foul trouble during his start against the Hawks on Friday and was limited to just 17 minutes on the court. He finished with six points, four rebounds, and one assist.

McGary is expected to start for as long as Enes Kanter (ankle) stays off the court and currently there's not a definite timetable for Kanter's return. As a result, McGary's value should inflate for the time being even though he fell short of expectations with Friday's disappointing outing.

McGary will start in Friday's game against the Hawks, The Oklahoman reports.

McGary is starting in place of Enes Kanter (ankle) on Friday. Coach Scott Brooks doesn't know how long Kanter will be out, which means that McGary may be in store for more than just Friday's start.

McGary scored 12 points (5-11 FG, 2-4 FT) with 13 rebounds and a block in just 17 minutes during Monday's loss to the Mavericks.

While it was a great night for McGary, his limited minutes were a better indicator of his fantasy value than the surprise double-double. Steven Adams and Enes Kanter figure to see most of the frontcourt minutes for the Thunder down the stretch, even with Serge Ibaka (knee) on the shelf.

McGary was held scoreless as he returned to his role off the bench Sunday, playing nine minutes against the Bulls.

As Steven Adams returned to the starting lineup, McGary returned to his role off the bench, playing sparse minutes. McGary will likely be buried on the bench in the short-term behind Adams, Enes Kanter, Nick Collison and Serge Ibaka (knee) who will be returning soon. His value is dependent on injuries to multiple big men on the Thunder.

McGary will come off the bench Sunday versus the Bulls, Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman reports.

McGary got the start Friday in the absence of Serge Ibaka (knee) and scored 12 points in 22 minutes. However, with Ibaka out again Sunday, coach Scott Brooks will turn to Steven Adams to start alongside Enes Kanter.

McGary started for the ailing Serge Ibaka (knee) Friday against the Timberwolves and didnot disappoint. He posted 12 points (6-8 FG), two rebounds, and two assists in 22 minutes of action.

While McGary's solid performance Friday is worth applauding, any sort of fantasy value should be short-lived. Ibaka isn't expected to miss too much time, and McGary's role off the bench will limit him from a fantasy perspective.

McGary will get the start at the four in Friday's game.

Serge Ibaka is out with knee soreness, so McGary could be in line for 20-30 minutes as a starter. Look for Nick Collison and Enes Kanter to also see time at the four in Friday's game.

McGary was held scoreless with one rebound in two minutes Thursday.

McGary has been very inconsistent this season after he showed promise when he finally got his opportunity in early February. He has posted a few strong double-doubles in limited minutes, but will suddenly put up games like this. The former Michigan Wolverine has been held scoreless three times in his past five games, making him a very risky fantasy option.

McGary scored a career-high 20 points (10-13 FG) in Friday's loss to the Trail Blazers while also picking up nine rebounds, two assists and a steal in 28 minutes.

McGary is finally catching on in his rookie year out of Michigan, but is still fairly far down on the depth chart. He's now broken double-digit points in four games this month, but when Steven Adams and Enes Kanter are healthy, which they weren't Friday, he'll see very limited action.

McGary played just 15 minutes, but stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of nine points (4-7 FG, 1-1 FT), 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks Saturday.

While McGary has had some encouraging performances, the fact the Thunder boast the likes of Enes Kanter and Steven Adams ahead of him, plus Scott Brooks favorite Nick Collison, will likely put a ceiling on his rest of the season outlook. In his last five games, McGary is averaging 9.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks in under 20 minutes, so in deep leagues, there is significant value.

McGary scored 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-6 FT) with 10 rebounds and a block in 25 minutes off the bench Monday.

Steven Adams' injury has opened the door for McGary to show what he can do and he's charged through it, posting double-doubles in back-to-back games despite averaging just 24 minutes in the two contests. If you need frontcourt help, the second-year big man should be your top waiver wire target.

McGary could see an uptick in playing time for the Thunder while Steven Adams recovers from hand surgery.

Kendrick Perkins will also see an increase in minutes, but McGary brings much more upside to the table, particularly at the offensive end. McGary had a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) while coming off the bench for Oklahoma City on Sunday night.
