The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Bryce Cotton to a 10-day contract Friday.The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Cotton, 23, has appeared in 18 games over two seasons with the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns, averaging 4.7 points and one assist in 10.7 minutes. He has played in 40 games (all starts) for the NBA Development League's Austin Spurs, averaging 22 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 39.2 minutes.Cotton began the season in Austin before he was signed by Phoenix as a D-League call-up on Nov. 25. He made three appearances for the Suns, totaling four points, three assists and three steals in 32 minutes, before he was waived on Jan. 7. He returned to Austin on Jan. 12 and departed on Jan. 25 to sign with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association.Cotton was undrafted in 2014 out of Providence College.

Cotton has failed to see any time on the court during Utah's first two preseason games.

Cotton is currently the third point guard on coach Quin Snyder's depth chart. However, the bulk of minutes will likely be given to Trey Burke and Raul Neto. Making matters worse, Alec Burks has even spent time at point guard throughout his career despite now owning the starting shooting guard spot.

Cotton could see unexpected minutes this season with Dante Exum (knee) expected to miss the entire 2015-16 campaign, Aaron Falk of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Cotton made appearances in just 15 games last season during his rookie year and he currently faces an unguaranteed contract when the season starts anew this October. The Jazz will need Cotton as a safety valve with only Trey Burke and Raul Neto as the other options at point guard for coach Quin Snyder, but the former Providence standout will be on the hot seat all season long as Utah will undoubtedly bring in extra options to challenge and bolster their relatively weak core of point guards.

Cotton made 15 appearances for the Jazz over the course of his rookie season.

Cotton spent the majority of his rookie campaign in the D-League but still managed to get a multi-year deal with Utah. However, that contract isn't guaranteed for the 2015-16 season so the 22-year-old has to prove his worth during the offseason. If Cotton does in fact stay with the Jazz, he's still not expected to have a large role on the team and should be avoided in almost every format come draft time.

Cotton scored 21 points (8-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT) with four assists, two rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes off the bench Monday.

The rookie was a big scorer in college, and Cotton has now scored in double-digits in three straight games while Trey Burke (back) is out. If Burke misses the regular season finale on Wednesday against the Rockets, Cotton could be a sneaky play.

Cotton is averaging 8.7 minutes on the court over his last three games.

Cotton recently signed on with the Jazz under a multi-year deal but still isn't expected to have a large role on the team moving forward. He'll continue to provide relief off the bench behind Dante Exum and Trey Burke but that dynamic doesn't give Cotton nearly enough playing time to amount significant production needed in standard leagues.

Cotton signed a multi-year deal with the Jazz on Monday.

Cotton reportedly impressed in practiced and in limited game situations, earning him a deal with the club for multiple seasons. He will likely continue in a limited role moving forward, but could receive some extra time late in the season with a playoff berth out of reach.

Cotton has only appeared in one game since signing his first 10-day deal, playing seven minutes against the Nuggets last Friday. He'll remain with Utah for at least another week-and-a-half, at which point the team will have to decide whether or not to sign him for the rest of the season.

Cotton made his Jazz debut against the Nuggets on Friday during seven minutes off the bench. He finished with three points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Cotton is currently on a 10-day contract with the Jazz but is not expected to see significant time on the court during his short stint in Utah. Even if he signs on for the rest of the season, the rookie from Providence would find himself buried on the depth chart behind other young and up-and-coming point guards like Dante Exum and Trey Burke.

Cotton has spent the season with the Austin Toros of the D-League, averaging 22.4 points and 4.7 assists in more than 40 minutes per game. The Providence product will slot in as the third point guard behind Dante Exum and Trey Burke and will compete primarily with Ian Clark for reserve minutes.

Cotton was waived by the Spurs on Thursday.

Cotton signed with the Spurs after going undrafted and averaged 4.8 points and 1.4 assists in five preseason games. However, with San Antonio's 15-man roster cemented, Cotton will likely ply his trade in the D-League or overseas this season. The 22-year-old scored over 21 points per game to go with 5.9 assists at Providence as a senior in college.
