Wed Mar 8 202311:39Lorenzo Cain To Retire This Summer
Free-agent outfielder Lorenzo Cain will officially retire this summer as a member of the Kansas City Royals, the team he spent seven years with from 2011-17. The two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner finished his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, a team that he spent six of his seasons with. He hit just .179/.231/.234 with a career-low .465 OPS, one home run, nine RBI and 17 runs scored in 43 games for the Brewers in his final season in 2022. Over his 13 years in the big leagues, Cain had a .283/.343/.407 slash line with a .749 OPS, 87 home runs, 454 RBI, 626 runs scored and 190 stolen bases in 1,171 games played. Cain was never really known for his power, but he made plenty of contact, could run well on the bases and was excellent on defense in center field.

Thu Jun 23 202211:53Lorenzo Cain Becomes A Free Agent
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain cleared release waivers on Thursday and has officially become a free agent. The Brewers designated the struggling Cain for assignment last weekend. It came after he hit just .179/.231/.234 with a homer, nine RBI, 17 runs scored and two stolen bases in 156 plate appearances over 43 games played in 2022. It remains to be seen if the two-time All-Star will latch on with another organization, but Cain is unlikely to be much more than outfield depth if he does. Since joining Milwaukee in 2018, the 36-year-old hit .270/.344/.380 with 30 home runs, 133 RBI, 226 runs scored and 63 stolen bases in 415 games over five seasons.

Sat Jun 18 202218:04Lorenzo Cain DFA'd By Brewers
Outfielder Lorenzo Cain was DFA'd by the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, putting an end to his five-year tenure with the team. The decision was a mutual one between Brewers management and Cain, who knew his time in the majors was coming to an end. The former fantasy stud was having a rough go this season, with a .179/.231/.234 slash line and only one home run to go along with two steals. Fantasy managers who have been playing for over a few years will remember his prime years when he was a constant 30-steal guy who could reliably hit .300. His career is likely coming to an end, and what a career it has been.

Thu Sep 30 202112:28Lorenzo Cain On The Bench Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, according to MLB.com. Cain has put up average numbers across the board, slashing .261/.335/.406 with eight home runs in 75 games. He can still run, though, stealing 13 bags this season. Jackie Bradley Jr. will play center in his place and bat eighth. Bradley isn't playing because of his offense, as he's hit just .164 with a .502 OPS. Fantasy managers shouldn't think about streaming Bradley and look elsewhere for outfield help.

Sun Sep 19 202106:13Lorenzo Cain Exits Saturday’s Game With Hip Discomfort
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain (hip) exited Saturday's 6-4 win over the Chicago Cubs with right discomfort. The 35-year-old sustained the injury after he collided with the outfield wall while making a catch. He remained in the game but was eventually replaced by Jackie Bradley Jr. in the top of the fifth inning. Cain went 0-for-1 with a walk before exiting. The severity of his hip injury is unknown at this time and he's considered day-to-day. Bradley Jr. would see an uptick in playing time if Cain were to miss any games.

Sun Aug 29 202113:21Avisail Garcia, Lorenzo Cain Resting Sunday
Milwaukee Brewers outfielders Avisail Garcia and Lorenzo Cain are not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Manager Craig Counsell said after Saturday night's game that Cain was fine, according to The Athletic. He stayed in the game after Counsell checked on him after a play. Jackie Bradley Jr. is in center field for the Brewers and batting eighth against right-hander Griffin Jax, while Jace Peterson is in right and hitting seventh. Garcia, who is having a career year, and Cain should be good to go for next week's fantasy lineups.

Wed Jul 28 202122:44Reyes nearly hits bicyclist with homer in Indians' win
CLEVELAND (AP) — Franmil Reyes homered twice, the first a second-inning blast that bounced out of Progressive Field and almost dinged a bicyclist pedaling on a street, and the Cleveland Indians beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 on Wednesday. Reyes’ leadoff homer in the second glanced off the pedestrian bridge in left field and landed on the plaza area between the ballpark and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The ball traveled an estimated 446 feet. Reyes wasn’t done. He finished off Cleveland’s three-homer inning in the third with his 19th of the season, a 421-foot drive to center. César Hernández and José Ramírez also homered in the inning for Cleveland. Kwang Hyun Kim (6-6) gave up all four homers and lost for the first time since June 20. Wed Jul 28 202114:28Lorenzo Cain Collects Two Singles In Return From IL
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-5 with an RBI during Tuesday's win over the Pirates. Cain, who was activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game, put together two singles in his return, scoring a run for the Brewers in the first inning. The 35-year-old had been sidelined since June 1st with a strained right hamstring. Across 32 games this year, he's batting .231/.325/.352 with three home runs and four stolen bases. He's not having a particularly good season offensively, and he should be avoided in fantasy leagues of all formats.

Tue Jul 27 202117:54Brewers' Yelich on COVID-19 list after positive test
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has tested positive for the coronavirus and is showing mild symptoms. Yelich and utilityman Jace Peterson were placed on the COVID-19 injured list, Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday, adding that Peterson was sidelined due to contact tracing and hasn't tested positive. Yelich — who has been vaccinated against the virus — will miss at least 10 days from the date of his positive test and Peterson will miss at least seven days, Stearns said. “Clearly disappointing news for Christian,” Stearns said. “The most important thing is for him to feel better. He has mild symptoms. I talked to him this morning. He’s in good spirits. He’s resting and it’s certainly our hope that he can knock this out quickly and feel better quickly.” The Brewers activated outfielder Lorenzo Cain from the injured list and called up infielder Pablo Reyes from Triple-A Nashville to fill the open roster spots as they prepared... Mon Jul 19 202113:12Road success helps Brewers take commanding NL Central lead
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers are returning home with the biggest division lead of any National League team, but it’s their success away from Milwaukee that has helped them build a seven-game cushion. Milwaukee’s weekend sweep at NL Central rival Cincinnati improved the Brewers’ road record to 29-18, the best in the majors. The Brewers begin a five-game homestand Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals. Outfielder Christian Yelich credits the Brewers’ road success to their togetherness. “Everybody really likes each other, picks each other up,” Yelich said. “Just the toughness. Everybody just wants to win, and we’re willing to do whatever it takes to get that done.” For whatever reason, those traits have stood out more when they’re away from Milwaukee. The Brewers have been even better on the road than at home, where they’re 27-21. “There’s not an explanation for that,” manager Craig Counsell said. “You just play a good baseball game and that’s what happens. We get into that all... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202103:28Brewers have comfortable lead after 11-game winning streak
The Milwaukee Brewers have taken advantage of an easier stretch in their schedule -- and they now have the largest division lead in the major leagues. Milwaukee had won 11 in a row prior to a loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Brewers have a seven-game advantage over second-place Cincinnati in the NL Central. Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta have been impressive in the rotation, and the offense has done its part lately, averaging 7.6 runs a game during the winning streak. Of those 11 straight wins, eight came against the Rockies, Diamondbacks and Pirates, who are among the worst teams in the National League. The other three victories were against the Cubs, who have dropped nine in a row. The wins all count the same, however, and in the NL Central, one extended run of success has been enough to give the Brewers a comfortable margin at the top. While Woodruff and Burnes have led the way, Milwaukee has gotten contributions from plenty of unsung players. Avisal Garca and... [More]
