Veal struggled mightily in five appearances with the Braves this season, giving up seven earned runs in 4.1 innings (14.54 ERA) and posting a 2.31 WHIP. He appeared in 74 big league games between 2012 and 2013, but he has struggled to find much success since. He did pitch well in the minors this season (16 scoreless innings), so he figures to get a look elsewhere.

After the Braves' trade with the Dodgers there was room for a reliever to be added to the 25-man roster and Veal will get the call. He was recently designated for assignment, so the Braves obviously don't think that highly of him, but he should offer bullpen depth in the short term.

Donald Veal has been placed on Triple-A Indianapolis' disabled list due to arm fatigue.
Veal is coming back from Tommy John surgery and has struggled to this point, posting a 5.71 ERA over 15 games, though he has struck out over a batter per inning. Hopefully this is just a minor bump in the road in his recovery, but it's tough to say at this point.
