Fri Mar 2219:32White Sox Agree With Robbie Grossman On Minor-League Deal
The Chicago White Sox agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder Robbie Grossman on a minor-league deal on Friday that includes an invite to major-league spring training. Grossman doesn't have much time in camp to impress the White Sox in order to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster as outfield depth to begin the 2024 season. Because of the timing of his signing, the 34-year-old veteran left-handed hitter will most likely open the year at Triple-A Charlotte. The 11-year MLB veteran won't be on the fantasy radar in mixed leagues if he's on Chicago's active roster in 2024. Grossman has one year of hitting 20-plus homers (in 2021) and batted .238/.340/.394 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI in 115 regular-season games in 2023 for the Texas Rangers.

Sun Oct 22 202318:16Robbie Grossman Hitting Third For Game 6
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman will be in the lineup for Game 6 of the ALCS against left-hander Framber Valdez. He will be the three-hitter for Texas. The switched hitter has been much better against lefties this season, as he has a .309/.416/.536 slash line against southpaws. Grossman was 0-for-2 in Game 2 of the series, which has been his only start of the ALCS so far. Valdez also started that game and Grossman was in the three hole then as well. Evan Carter will retreat to the bench with Valdez on the mound, but could get some play later in the game if the Rangers are able to chase the starter.

Mon Oct 16 202315:12Robbie Grossman Starting Over Evan Carter In Game 2
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman, not rookie Evan Carter, will make the start in left field and will bat third for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series on Monday against Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Carter, who hasn't looked like a rookie at all in the playoffs by going 7-for-18 (.389) with a homer, four doubles, three RBI, a stolen base and four runs in six games, will take a seat with the Rangers facing a southpaw for the first time this postseason. The 34-year-old Grossman will instead get the nod after going 2-for-14 with a double in three games so far this postseason. The veteran switch-hitter has gone just 3-for-17 with a double, an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts in his career against Valdez.

Tue Oct 10 202319:32Robbie Grossman Heads To The Bench
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman will remain on the bench for Tuesday's Game 3 against the Baltimore Orioles. This move makes sense considering Grossman is 2-for-14 with eight strikeouts so far during the postseason. In his absence, Mitch Garver will serve as the designated hitter and bat third versus right-hander Dean Kremer. Garver went 2-for-6 with a grand slam and five RBI during Sunday's victory. It makes sense that the Rangers would continue to ride the hot hand in Garver during this contest.

Tue Oct 3 202312:29Robbie Grossman Hitting Third In Game 1 On Tuesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman is serving as the designated hitter and is batting third for the Rangers in Game 1 of the wild-card series on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Tyler Glasnow. Grossman, a switch-hitter, has fared much better against left-handers than righties this year, although he's never faced Glasnow in his career and faces a tough challenge to kick off the postseason. The 34-year-old veteran outfielder hit just .206 (50-for-243) with five of his 10 homers against right-handed pitching in 2023. Grossman is coming into this game on a cold streak, too, going 3-for-22 (.136) with no homers or RBI, eight strikeouts and no runs scored in his final nine games of the regular season.

Tue May 9 202321:04Robbie Grossman Out Of Tuesday's Lineup
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman is missing from the lineup for Tuesday's game with George Kirby and the Seattle Mariners. The 33-year-old veteran is batting .235 with three home runs, 17 runs, and 16 RBI through 28 games. In his place is Josh H. Smith, who will play left and bat ninth. The left-handed hitter is having a poor start to the season, slashing .154/.353/.269 with a pair of homers, 11 runs, three RBI, and one stolen base over 23 contests. Fantasy managers targeting an outfielder should pass on Smith for a more potent bat.

Sat Apr 29 202300:02Robbie Grossman Picks Up Three Hits In Win
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman went 3-for-4 Friday, defeating the Yankees 5-2. In the second inning, Grossman smashed a double and quickly hustled around the bases to score on a double hit by Marcus Semien. Grossman continued his impressive performance by slamming a two-run home run off Clarke Schmidt in the third inning, further widening the Rangers' lead to 5-0. Grossman's season batting stats now stand at .246/.316/.420, with three home runs and 13 RBI.

Sat Apr 22 202310:16Robbie Grossman Picks Up Two Hits In Loss
Texas Rangers outfielder Robbie Grossman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two strikeouts while hitting second and serving as the designated hitter in the team's 5-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Grossman has been moved up in the Rangers' batting order and now has a modest four-game hitting streak to his name. It's been nice to see for the 33-year-old veteran outfielder, who is still hitting only .196 (10-for-51) with a double, one home run, six RBI and eight runs scored in his first 16 games in Texas. Playing time will probably remain inconsistent for Grossman as he battles for playing time in the outfield with Brad Miller, Travis Jankowski and Bubba Thompson.

Fri Feb 17 202318:13Robbie Grossman Heads To Rangers
Free-agent outfielder Robbie Grossman signed with the Texas Rangers on Friday. The New York Post's Joel Sherman reported the deal is for one year and $2 million. Grossman comes to Texas after a disappointing 2022 campaign for the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves. He hit a combined .209/.310/.311 with a .622 OPS, seven home runs, 45 RBI, 40 runs scored and six stolen bases in 477 plate appearances and 129 games. The 33-year-old veteran switch-hitting outfielder will look to bounce back in Texas, but he'll face plenty of competition for playing in left field this spring. Unless Grossman improves drastically against left-handed pitching, he'll have a platoon role, at best, with his new squad. A career-high 27 percent strikeout was mostly to blame for his 2022 struggles.

Wed Oct 12 202214:50Robbie Grossman On The Bench For Game 2
Atlanta Braves outfielder Robbie Grossman isn't in the starting lineup for the second game of the team's National League Division Series matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Zack Wheeler on Wednesday. Grossman hit .209 with a .310 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and six stolen bases in 477 plate appearances this season split between Atlanta and the Detroit Tigers. He went hitless in a pair of plate appearances in the first game of the series on Tuesday. Instead, it'll be Eddie Rosario hitting ninth and getting the start in left field. The veteran hit .212 with a .259 on-base percentage, five home runs, and three stolen bases in 270 plate appearances during the regular season.

Mon Sep 19 202214:41Robbie Grossman Not Starting Monday
Atlanta Braves outfielder Robbie Grossman isn't in the team's starting lineup on Monday for a matchup with the Washington Nationals and right-hander Cory Abbott. The outfielder is batting .214 with a .317 on-base percentage, seven home runs and six stolen bases in 441 plate appearances this season. He'll head to the bench with Eddie Rosario stepping in as Atlanta's starting left fielder. Rosario is batting eighth on Monday. For the season, the veteran is hitting .201 with a .256 on-base percentage, four home runs and three stolen bases. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help in the outfield are probably better off looking elsewhere.

Tue Aug 2 202200:20Robbie Grossman Heading To Atlanta
The Atlanta Braves acquired veteran outfielder Robbie Grossman from the Detroit Tigers Monday, per MLB Network Insider's Joel Sherman. The Tigers' corresponding acquisitions are not known at this time. Grossman will provide a veteran presence to the team. He had a strong 2021 season but has only managed a .205/.313/.282 slash line with two home runs, 23 RBI, and three stolen bases in 320 plate appearances this season.

Tue Jul 26 202215:09Robbie Grossman On The Bench Tuesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman isn't in the team's lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the San Diego Padres and right-handed starter Mike Clevinger. Grossman is hitting .205 with a .310 on-base percentage, two home runs, and three stolen bases in 303 plate appearances for the Tigers this season. Instead, it'll be Akil Baddoo starting in left field and batting ninth against the Padres. Baddoo is hitting .137 with a .192 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 78 plate appearances this season. Fantasy managers in search of streaming options are probably better off looking elsewhere.

Sat Jun 11 202212:06Robbie Grossman Not Playing Against Blue Jays
Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman (knee) is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Grossman, who recently returned from the injured list, left the game early on Friday after fouling a ball off his knee. Luckily, X-rays came back negative, but he'll miss at least one game as a result. The 32-year-old veteran switch-hitter just hasn't gotten into a groove this year, as he's slashing .201/.312/.243 and is still searching for his first long ball in 144 at-bats. Grossman has added 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases. With Grossman out Saturday, Victor Reyes is in center field and is hitting leadoff against Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Reyes is also searching for his first homer of the year, but he's hitting .292 in 24 at-bats for Detroit.

Sun Jun 5 202211:32Robbie Grossman, Victor Reyes Nearing Rehab Assignments
Detroit Tigers outfielders Robbie Grossman (neck) and Victor Reyes (quadriceps) could start minor league rehab assignments early next week. Grossman has been on the injured list for around a week, and he could rejoin the Tigers at some point next week, barring any setbacks on his rehab assignment. The 32-year-old switch-hitter just hasn't been able to get off the ground in 141 at-bats this year, as he's hitting just .199/.311/.241 with no home runs, 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases in 42 games. Reyes went on the IL on May 16 with a right quadriceps strain. The 27-year-old was hitting .292/.346/.458 with an .804 OPS, no home runs, four RBI and one run scored in 11 games before his injury, and he should return to at least semi-regular playing time when he's reinstated.

Mon May 30 202211:09Robbie Grossman Goes On Injured List
The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Robbie Grossman (neck) on the injured list on Monday and recalled infielder Kody Clemens from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Grossman left the game early on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians with a neck injury and will now miss at least the next 10 days. The 32-year-old switch-hitter hasn't really been a fantasy option in mixed leagues this year, as he's hitting a lowly .199/.311/.241 with no homers, 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases in 42 games played. Willi Castro, Derek Hill and Daz Cameron will operate in the Tigers outfield on Monday against Minnesota Twins right-hander Dylan Bundy. Clemens should serve as a depth infielder for Detroit.

Wed May 11 202216:10Robbie Grossman Sitting Against Athletics On Wednesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman is getting the day off on Wednesday as the team takes on left-hander Zach Logue and the Oakland Athletics. Austin Meadows will be slotting in as the team's leadoff hitter for the game and he'll be joined in the outfield by Derek Hill and Willi Castro. Grossman has had a rough time at the plate so far in May. Over 10 games this month, he's slashing .125/.293/.188 with 11 strikeouts. The 32-year-old hit a career-high 23 home runs last year, but he has yet to go yard during the 2022 season.

Mon May 2 202208:46Initial X-Rays Negative On Robbie Grossman's Hand
Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman (hand) was hit in his right hand by a Walker Buehler fastball on Sunday. He was removed from the game as his hand had turned black and blue while he was on the bases. The 32-year-old received preliminary X-rays after the game and the X-rays came back negative. Grossman is set to be further evaluated by the team on Monday. The Tigers are off on Monday before beginning a two-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Grossman should be considered day-to-day until we hear more.

Sat Apr 16 202212:25Robbie Grossman Returns To Tigers Lineup
Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman (groin) is back in the starting lineup and batting leadoff on Saturday as his club takes on Kris Bubic and the Kansas City Royals. The 32-year-old has missed the last three games with groin tightness, but his MRI came back clean and it appears he's no longer feeling the soreness he had earlier in the week. Grossman is off to a slow start to his 2022 campaign with just one hit in 17 at-bats, but manager AJ Hinch is showing confidence in the switch hitter by putting him back into his customary leadoff spot in his return to the diamond.

Victor Reyes is back in right field and hitting leadoff for the game. Grossman is dealing with right groin tightness. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday and it came back clean, but Grossman was reportedly still feeling sore after the MRI. The 32-year-old remains day-to-day at this point. We'll see if he's able to give it a go on Saturday.
