LHP Jaime Garcia did not start as scheduled since the Yankees began Saturday still alive in the AL East race. Garcia said he found out Saturday morning from manager Joe Girardi, who did not want him to be distracted Friday night about possibly not making the start. Girardi added Garcia could be used as a left-handed reliever in Tuesday's wild-card game if the need arose. Garcia made 11 relief appearances during his nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.

LHP Jaime Garcia gave up four hits, three walks and five runs in 2 1/3 innings Sunday in the 9-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He is 0-3 with a 4.82 with the Yankees since he was obtained in a trade with the Minnesota Twins on July 29. "Behind in the count, didn't have good command of his sinker, at times it was cutting," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Didn't look like he had real good command of his changeup as well today."

LHP Jaime Garcia remains winless in seven starts for the Yankees but Monday might have been his best performance. He recorded eight of his nine strikeouts on breaking balls and held the Twins to one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Mondaywas also a unique experience for Garcia, who pitched once for Minnesota on July 28 and was dealt to the Yankees two days later. Even though I was never in Minnesota, in the home clubhouse, I got traded both times on the road, those guys are great guys. Even though I was only there for a week, I came close to some of those guys, guys that have been around for a long time and they've got a great thing in the clubhouse, I really admire the way they do things over there, even though I wasn't there for long, I've got relationships with some of those guys."

LHP Jamie Garcia remained winless in six starts for the Yankees though he came within one out of the elusive victory when he allowed one earned run and five hits in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday against Tampa Bay. Garcia was lifted at 78 pitches because manager Joe Girardi said he didn't want him facing 3B Evan Longoria for the third time. Garcia appeared disappointed when he was pulled but said he understood the decision. Girardi said Garcia would make another start, possibly against Minnesota, one of the three teams the lefty has pitched for this season.

LHP Jaime Garcia will pitch for the first time in two weeks Wednesday afternoon, when he takes the mound for the Yankees in the finale of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Citi Field. Garcia last pitched on Aug. 30, when he took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings as the Yankees fell to the Cleveland Indians, 2-1. He has his most recent turn skipped as the Yankees reverted back to a standard five-man rotation. Garcia is looking for his first win as a member of the Yankees, who acquired him from the Minnesota Twins on July 29. He is 0-2 with a 5.11 ERA for the Yankees and has yet to complete six innings in any of his five starts. Garcia has never faced the Rays.
