According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, guard Edmond Sumner has agreed to a one-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets. The 27-year-old joins his third NBA team after starting his career in Indiana and playing for the Nets. After missing the entire 2021-22 campaign with an Achilles injury, Sumner had 7.1 points in 13.9 minutes across 53 games with the Nets last season. He will battle for a spot at the end of the bench in Charlotte.

He's been dealing with a glute contusion that forced him to miss the team's last game on Sunday. A couple of hours before tipoff, he's now listed as available. Ever since Kyrie Irving returned, the 26-year-old hasn't seen much playing time. He's only fantasy relevant in much deeper leagues or if someone else gets hurt from the starting lineup.

The 26-year-old finished with 11 points, four boards and two steals through 25 minutes during Friday's game. He'll look to build on that performance during this game. The expectation is that he'll continue to see around 25 minutes with Kyrie Irving (suspension) unavailable for this game. Sumner could be a possible deep league streaming option for Saturday's slate.

The 26-year-old is expected to receive some minutes early in the season while Seth Curry (ankle) and Joe Harris (foot) work their way back from their respective surgeries. With that said, his absence likely won't impact managers, especially since he probably isn't on many fantasy rosters. Nonetheless, if Sumner is officially ruled out, Cam Thomas may earn additional time on the floor, at least enough to warrant consideration in deeper formats.

Point/shooting guard Edmond Sumner (Achilles) was dealt from the Indiana Pacers to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, but he was ultimately waived in a cost-cutting move for the franchise. Sumner was announced to be out indefinitely with a torn Achilles tendon back in September, ruling him out for the entirety of the 2021-22 season. Indiana chose to move Sumner and sign veteran Brad Wanamaker to fill his roster spot. Sumner had begun to come into his own last year, starting a career-high 24 games for the Pacers en route to averaging 7.5 points per game. For now, the 25-year-old remains a free agent with a return ETA of late 2022/early 2023.
