Thu Jan 19 202318:37Reds Outright Matt Reynolds To Minors
Cincinnati Reds infielder Matt Reynolds cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Reynolds has the option to decline the outright assignment and become a free agent after he was designated for assignment last Friday to make room on the 40-man roster for right-hander Luke Weaver. The 32-year-old will simply serve as organizational infield depth for the Reds if he remains in the organization. Reynolds spent 2022 with the Reds and New York Mets, hitting .246/.320/.332 with a .652 OPS, three home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored and five stolen bases in 272 plate appearances and 93 games (only one with the Mets).

Reynolds (elbow) has allowed two runs on two hits over two innings in two relief appearances with Triple-A Reno to the begin the season.
That he is healthy enough to pitch is more important than the results right now, as Reynolds is moving further away from Tommy John surgery in September of 2013. If he proves effective in the PCL, Reynolds should be back in the Arizona bullpen later this season.

Reynolds threw off a mound for the second time since he had Tommy John surgery last September. Reynolds (elbow) threw 29 pitches in a live batting practice session Friday.
Friday's live session marked Reynolds' first since he underwent Tommy John surgery last September. Live batting practice is typically one of the final hurdles a pitcher must clear before heading out for a rehab assignment, and while the team may want to see him throw several sessions, there's at least a chance Reynolds is assigned to an affiliate in the next week or so. The lefty has a career 3.58 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 153.1 innings.

He is still a ways away from potentially rejoining the bullpen, requiring a good amount of outings before the team will decide what to do with him.
