Tue Apr 209:22Gabe Vincent Won't Play On Tuesday
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) will sit out Tuesday's action against the Raptors. He's only just returned from a long injury layoff, and the Lakers start a back-to-back on Tuesday, so it makes sense that Vincent's load will be managed. The 27-year-old logged 14 minutes in his comeback game against Brooklyn on Sunday, scoring two points and recording one assist with one steal. Spencer Dinwiddie should see more minutes without Vincent on Tuesday. This is a good fantasy matchup for the Lakers against a team that is ranked 25th in the league with a 117.9 defensive rating.

Thu Mar 2809:57Gabe Vincent Expected To Return To Action On Sunday
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) is expected to rejoin the lineup on Sunday versus Brooklyn. Vincent has been unavailable since Dec. 20 due to knee surgery. The former Heat player has been limited to only five games in his first year in L.A. He's posted 5.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 steals across 25.4 minutes. Vincent's return gives the Lakers an additional backcourt piece, but he likely won't be making a big impact in fantasy hoops, as there's a lot of competition for playing time.

Tue Mar 2616:07Gabe Vincent Could Return By Early April
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) is not currently traveling with the team ahead of Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. If Vincent continues to progress in his rehab following left knee surgery, however, he could join LA at some point during their six-game road trip that runs through April 3, which is about midway through the fantasy finals. While the 27-year-old volume scorer could be an option for the 39-32 Lakers during the postseason, he'll still most likely be a non-factor for the fantasy playoffs outside of the deepest of leagues with such little time remaining to overcome likely minutes restrictions. Vincent hasn't suited up since December and is producing a mere 5.4 points on 37.5% shooting from the floor, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 steals in 25.4 minutes per game over five appearances this year. Continue ignoring him for fantasy purposes.

Fri Mar 1515:56Gabe Vincent Seen At Practice On Friday
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) hasn't played since December 20 and has only appeared in five games this season. He returned briefly but had some issues with his knee again so the Lakers have been taking every precaution to make sure he can return healthy. On Friday afternoon, Vincent was seen in a practice uniform at the end of practice. He wasn't going full speed and seemed to only do some light work so it's unclear how soon he can return. The promising part is that he's dressing for practice now and it seems like a return to practice should be on the horizon.

Tue Mar 515:45Gabe Vincent Eyeing Return In Mid-To-Late March
The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) "is doing more and more on the court. Barring any setbacks, his hope is still mid-to-late March to get back in the lineup for the Lakers." After undergoing knee surgery in late December, Vincent is finally closing in on a return to the floor. The 27-year-old volume scorer has appeared in only five games this season, contributing 5.4 points on 37.5% shooting from the field, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 steals in 25.4 minutes per contest. Upon Vincent's return, he is expected to share reserve minutes with Spencer Dinwiddie from L.A.'s second unit and doesn't need to be rostered in fantasy leagues at this stage.

Sat Dec 23 202320:25Gabe Vincent Could Undergo Surgery
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) continues to be hindered by injuries as he has been sidelined for most of the season. Vincent could be looking at missing more time as the guard is strongly considering undergoing knee surgery. If he does, Vincent is expected to miss 6-8 weeks of action, which means we likely wouldn't see him again until some point in February. It's uncertain if Vincent is going to contribute to this roster at all this season. Fantasy managers should probably move on and find someone who can help now.

Tue Dec 12 202310:07Gabe Vincent Remains Out On Tuesday
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) has been ruled out for another game ahead of Tuesday's contest against Dallas. He hasn't played since Oct. 30 due to a left knee issue, and there haven't been any updates on him for weeks. Vincent averaged over 28 minutes of action at the start of the season and should have a major role to play in the rotation once he's healthy again, although the Lakers are playing well right now, and it might not be easy for Vincent to regain his position.

Thu Nov 16 202320:31Gabe Vincent To Be Re-Evaluated In Two Weeks
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) hasn't appeared in a game since the end of October. However, Vincent is progressing well in his recovery from a left knee effusion. Fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited as Vincent is expected to miss at least two more weeks of action. The team plans to re-evaluate Vincent in two weeks, so fantasy managers will have to wait a little longer. In theory, Austin Reaves would likely gain value while Vincent is out, but he hasn't been playing great lately. There isn't a must-have pickup right now with Vincent on the sideline.

Fri Nov 3 202317:05Gabe Vincent Expected To Miss At Least Two Weeks
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (knee) will be out for two weeks as he deals with a left knee effusion. The team is going to re-evaluate his status after two weeks and then his return to play options will be assessed. Vincent hasn't been as much of a fantasy contributor as he was with Miami, but his absence does leave a handful of minutes up for grabs. D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves will take on more of the playmaking duties as Cam Reddish and Christian Wood could see some more opportunities off of the bench. The latter two are more likely to be available on the waiver wire.

Wed Nov 1 202319:01Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent Both Ruled Out
Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura (concussion) and guard Gabe Vincent (knee) are not going to play on Wednesday versus the Los Angeles Clippers. Hachimura is being evaluated for a concussion after getting listed with a left eye contusion that forced him to sit out Monday's game versus the Orlando Magic, and Vincent's left knee soreness will render him out for the first time so far this year. Neither of which have brought much to the table in fantasy as role players, but their voids free up extra playing time for Christian Wood, who played a season-high 26 minutes in his last time out, and Cam Reddish (foot), who is good to go on Wednesday. Expect D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves to take on even more playmaking duties in this Hallway Series game.

Sun Oct 22 202300:48Gabe Vincent Expected To Suit Up Versus Defending Champs
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (back) is expected to play on Tuesday night versus the Denver Nuggets. He's been battling a back issue, although he stated he could have played in the team's final preseason contest. However, the 27-year-old wanted to be sure he was 100% before returning to the court. Vincent, who signed with the Lakers over the Summer, was instrumental in helping Miami reach the NBA Finals last season. He's expected to come off the bench in his first season with the Lakers. But Vincent should still see more than enough minutes to make a difference for fantasy managers. He'll also likely draw the start occasionally, which would only raise his ceiling more.

Sat Oct 21 202307:00NBA Draft 2023: Second-Round Rookies to Watch Early
It's funny that every year at the NBA Draft, once the end of the guaranteed money and live appearances arrives at the end of the first round, everybody tunes out and refers to the 60th pick as "Mr. Irrelevant." That's not very accurate though, is it?Speaking historically, the title of "Mr. Irrelevant" could just as easily be applied to each pick in the draft, as organizations differ greatly in their evaluation of talent and their own needs, particularly in a year without the NCAA tournament. The nickname just doesn't reflect how basketball works anymore. Executives strategically stockpile second-round draft picks for the less burdensome financial obligations, and organizations in rebuilding mode get super creative to field a respectable team on a budget.Particularly in the NBA where worldwide talent is plentiful and positional lines continue to fade, the opportunity is everything: in the right situation, the right under-the-radar player can make an immediate, poignant statement. With professional development leagues for 16-18-year-olds, an ever-expanding set of domestic/international opportunities due to the sheer growth of basketball, and widespread NIL rights for college athletes, players of all levels and localities are starting to get their due exposure and now have enough freedom to hone their skills in a place, and at a pace, that fits best with their path to the NBA.

Introduction

I am inherently skeptical and distrusting of scouting from the high school level to pre-Draft. That's why in this annual article, I tend to favor overlooked college players (love the mid-majors/non-power conferences) with either well-rounded, polished games or specific statistical specialties. We are going to discuss a handful of 2023 second-round picks and undrafted free agent signees who, given their individual skillsets and circumstances, warrant the attention of Fantasy Basketball Managers as potential high-impact rookies for the 2023-24 campaign who can quietly be acquired on clearance once they start showing signs of emergence. As I will frequently emphasize and reiterate: in 2023, there is very little difference between the vast majority of second-round draft picks and undrafted free agents--it always all comes down to the skillsets they possess, their capacity for growth, and the situations they've landed in.Seasons will be made and broken with early identification of the diamond-in-the-rough rookies. I used to list out the many examples from the past season in this introduction portion, but we are now in a beautiful era where there are just too many to count. There is also very little separating the featured players below and those dubbed "Honorable Mentions"--so put in the work and keep an eye out throughout the regular season for who is receiving and seizing their opportunities.

Tue Oct 17 202318:22Gabe Vincent Day-To-Day With Stiff Back
Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent (back) is being deemed day-to-day as of Tuesday. Vincent has been sidelined for the Lakers' last two preseason games with back stiffness, but the day-to-day tag likely signals minimal concern regarding the injury on LA's end. The 27-year-old volume shooter should still be considered questionable for Thursday's preseason finale versus the Phoenix Suns. Vincent is lined up to serve as starter D'Angelo Russell's primary backup at the one to provide a scoring pop off head coach Darvin Ham's bench this year. Treat Vincent as a serviceable source of points, threes, and steals late in upcoming fantasy drafts.

Tue Aug 1 202307:32Biggest Moves of the 2023 NBA Offseason - Fred VanVleet, Jordan Poole, Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal
It's a crazy time of year around the National Basketball Association. Not long after the Denver Nuggets captured the franchise's first championship, French big manVictor Wembanyama was the top pick of the 2023 Draft. While new talent entering the league is all well and good, nothing turns the NBA upside down quite like the beginning of free agency. Since June 30, many notable players have signed with new teams. There were also more than a few significant trades. In either case, at least a handful of clubs will look very different (for the better?) come training camp. Let's take a look at some of the biggest names on the move and how they might affect the NBA landscape this season.

Fred VanVleet - Houston Rockets

The Rockets entered the 2022-23 campaign as the second-youngest team in the National Basketball Association, and it showed. The club finished with 22 wins and 60 losses, with the Pistons being the only team with a worse record. As a result, the front office made a point to shake things up after the exhaustingly long year came to a close. The overhaul began when Stephen Silas, winning just 59 of his 236 games in Houston, was relieved of his head coaching duties. In his place, Ime Udoka, who helped guide the Celtics to an NBA Finals appearance in his first season, took the reigns. While Udoka's tenure in Boston didn't end on a positive note, he's still regarded as one of the sharpest minds in the league, even by those who lost respect for him on a personal level.https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1650612243661242369?s=20While having a knowledgeable head coach will help accelerate the growth of an up-and-coming squad, the Rockets needed someone to facilitate things on the floor. With Houston having plenty of cap space entering the offseason, the team signed ... [More]
Fri Jun 30 202320:03Gabe Vincent Signs With The Lakers
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, guard Gabe Vincent is signing a deal with the Lakers. It will be a three-year, $33 million contract. The 27-year-old has been a good role player the last few seasons and a key member during the Heat's playoff runs. He averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 68 games for the Heat last season. The Lakers could be losing one of their guards during free agency, so adding a player as good as Vincent will pay dividends next season.

Fri Jun 30 202310:55Gabe Vincent Returning To Miami Looking Less Likely
Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent proved that he can be an important piece on a contending team over the past few seasons. As reported by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat offered Vincent a three-year deal worth a bit more money than Caleb Martin and it didn't move the needle for the 27-year-old guard. Unless they offer more money, it seems as if a reunion in South Beach is less likely than previously thought. So far, Toronto has been reported as a possible landing spot.

Thu Jun 29 202321:03Toronto A Possible Destination For Gabe Vincent
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Toronto could be a possible landing spot for Gabe Vincent if Fred VanVleet leaves. Vincent once again had a productive season with the Miami Heat and is now set to cash in on a payday. VanVleet has been the Raptors' longtime point guard, but with rumors of teams aggressively pursuing him, he's likely on his way out. Vincent is a younger player and should also be cheaper, so it's obvious why Toronto would pursue him now. After another impressive playoff run with the Heat, the 27-year-old could find himself in a stable starting role in Toronto next season.

Wed Jun 14 202319:46Gabe Vincent Looking For Right Situation
Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent told reporters he's looking for the right situation in regards to his free agency. The 27-year-old also mentioned that money does play a role in his decision making. Vincent is set to earn a nice payday after his performance this past season. He averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 68 regular season games. However, he saved his best performance for the postseason. Vincent averaged 12.7 points per game and shot just over 37% from three-point range during the Heat playoff run. He was used as both a starter and bench option throughout this past season. That being said, it wouldn't be shocking to see Vincent leave this offseason, assuming a team offers him a full-time spot.

Sun Jun 11 202320:20Gabe Vincent Available For Game 5
Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent (ankle) is available for Monday's meeting with the Denver Nuggets. Vincent has battled ankle soreness for a while, so his presence on the injury report isn't anything new. However, after the 26-year-old averaged 15.8 points in the Eastern Conference Finals, he hasn't looked the same in this series. But he's still a viable DFS option, especially since his upside is considerably higher than others.

Sun Jun 4 202304:05Gabe Vincent Good To Go For Game 2
Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent (ankle) is good to go on Sunday against Denver. Vincent sprained his left ankle in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Boston Celtics and didn't suit up for Game 5. However, he's been good to go since then, although he has been a hit-or-miss fantasy producer during the postseason.
