Field cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Field was designated for assignment Saturday, after recording 16 strikeouts and just eight hits in 41 at-bats. The 28-year-old is useful as organizational infield depth, but he doesn't seem to have a future as a big-league starter.

Field will sit for the second straight time and third in the last four days Sunday, with Adam Rosales once again starting at second base. It's unclear if a time-shift may be occurring at second base, but the .250/.314/.469 batting line he Field owns isn't terrible.

The spring training invite from the Rangers is a nice gesture, but Field is just a .224/.272/.224 career hitter at the major league level and his chances of breaking camp with a utility infield role seem slim, at best.
