Tue Sep 1 201514:47Young called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday
Young was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Adam Rubin of ESPN reports.
Young was acquired from the Braves just over a week ago and was initially assigned to Las Vegas. With rosters expanding, he'll join the major league club, but he's unlikely to see regular playing time. Young's primary value probably comes as a pinch runner and occasional pinch hitter.

Young was traded to the Mets for cash considerations Saturday, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
He was hitting .248 at Triple-A Gwinnett with the Braves, so the Mets are unlikely to be interested in deploying Young in the field, but they are probably interested in using him as a pinch runner in September and the postseason. Young will be sent to Triple-A Las Vegas for now.

Young has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinett on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.
Young struggled mightily in his time with the Braves, batting just .169/.229/.273 with no home runs and five RBI in 35 games. Barring an injury or two in the outfield, Young's role moving forward likely becomes organizational depth in the outfield.
Fri Jun 5 201518:01Eric Young Jr.: Gets Designated For Assignment
Young was designated for assignment by the Braves on Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Young lost a starting gig with the Braves due to his poor production at the plate (.169/.229/.273 batting line over 35 games), and now has lost his 25-man roster spot with the club. If he goes through waivers unclaimed, it's possible he'll accept an assignment to the minors and hope for another shot.

Tue May 5 201515:42Young out of lineup Tuesday against Phillies
Young is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.
Tuesday's absence from the starting lineup marks Young's fourth straight, as it seems manager Fredi Gonzalez is now favoring Cameron Maybin as his regular center fielder. While Maybin is striking out a nearly a 26 percent clip through 58 plate appearances, his .792 OPS is nearly 270 points higher than Young's mark of .524.
Sun May 3 201510:27Young out of lineup Sunday against Reds
Young is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Young started three games in a row in center field last week, but he'll be back on the bench for a second straight contest in favor of Cameron Maybin. With a .169 batting average and a horrid .239 on-base percentage, Young has failed to consistently showcase his game-changing speed on the bases due to his season-long struggles at the plate. Maybin's similarly slow start is one of the major reasons Young continues to see usage, as manager Fredi Gonzalez is desperately hoping one of the two players will run into a hot streak and take the reins of the starting job for good.
Sat May 2 201515:28Young isn't in lineup Saturday against Reds
Young isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Reds, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Young will receive the day off Saturday in favor of Cameron Maybin in center field. He continues to receive the majority of the starts in center, but neither Young nor Maybin has been impressive at the plate this season.
Tue Apr 28 201516:41Young not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Nationals
Young is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
Young started each of the last six games, but he tallied just four hits over that span, so manager Fredi Gonzalez decided to hold him out Tuesday. Cameron Maybin will get the start in center field in Young's place.
Tue Apr 21 201515:37Young out of lineup Tuesday against Mets
Young is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Mets, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Young will give way to Cameron Maybin in center field and atop the batting order for a third straight game. The way things are trending, Young, who's gotten off to a 6-for-33 start (.229 average), appears in line for only occasional opportunities until his bat picks up.
Sun Apr 19 201510:06Young not in lineup Sunday against Blue Jays
Young is not in the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays.
The newly-acquired Cameron Maybin seems to be eating into Young's at-bats, as the speedy outfielder will find himself out of the lineup for the third time in four games. His ability to steal bases should allow Young to at least see action off the bench as a pinch-runner most nights, but he'll need to show more consistency at the plate in order to earn his way back in the lineup on a more frequent basis. Young is off to a 6-for-33 start to his Braves career and owns a horrid .229 on-base percentage.
Fri Apr 10 201515:35Young out of lineup Friday
Young is out of the lineup Friday.
Cameron Maybin will start in center field and hit atop the order Friday against lefty Jon Niese. Young does not have pronounced splits, so guessing when he will be in the lineup is a tough task. However, his speed on the bases makes him a threat for a late-inning steal even when he starts the game on the bench. Continue to monitor this situation, as Maybin has a shot at taking control of the starting job in center field.
Wed Apr 8 201515:39Young not in lineup for Wednesday's game against Marlins
Young is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Young, who tallied two hits, two runs, and a stolen base in his first two games of the season, will sit out in favor of Cameron Maybin on Wednesday as planned. While Young opened the season as the Braves' primary center fielder, don't be surprised if he and Maybin flip-flop roles once Maybin spends more time with his new team.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez plans to play Cameron Maybin in center field Wednesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Further, the skipper indicated Jonny Gomes will be in left, so it seems likely Young will find himself on the bench for the first time this season. Either Maybin or Jace Peterson will likely lead off against right-hander Tom Koehler.

Young will start in center field and bat leadoff against the Marlins on Opening Day.
Cameron Maybin has joined the team, but manager Fredi Gonzalez will reward Young for his outstanding spring with the Opening Day nod. It's uncertain how the playing time in center field will shake out after Maybin gets up to speed with his new club.

Young's status as the Braves' everyday center fielder has been clouded with the addition of Cameron Maybin from San Diego.
Young put together the best spring of his career, going 25-for-78 (.321 average) with six doubles and seven stolen bases, and had his contract purchased just hours before the team acquired Maybin and others for Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr. While manager Fredi Gonzalez seems to really like what Young brings to the table both in center field and atop the order, Young is just a .225/.253/.313 career hitter from the right side and has made only 44 major league appearance in center field to this point. It's logical to think Maybin will eat into Young's playing time eventually.

Young will serve as the Braves' everyday center fielder until Melvin Upton (foot) returns, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
As expected, Young will open the year as the team's starter in center, and he will almost certainly lead off against right-handed pitching as well. It's also worth noting that Young was atop the order the last time the Braves faced a lefty in spring ball, which may be a sign manager Fredi Gonzalez is at least considering having Young as his full-time leadoff man. The Braves still need to make room for Young on the 40-man roster before Sunday's 3 PM ET deadline for teams to finalize rosters.
Thu Mar 12 201519:22Eric Young Jr.: Leading Candidate For CF Job
Young has emerged as the leading candidate for the Braves' Opening Day center field job, Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "If we had to break camp tomorrow, I would be comfortable running [Young] out there in center field," manager Fredi Gonzalez said Wednesday. "We still have a lot more games to be played, he's still got a lot more work to be done with (coach) Bo (Porter) clean him up a little bit. But he's got the athletic ability and he seems fearless, which is hard to teach. He'll go after balls and leave his feet to catch them. Those are all good qualities."
Previously, Young's name was mentioned in the conversation for a platoon role in left alongside Jonny Gomes and he was even thrown around as a candidate for a part-time job at second base, but it sounds like he's now tentatively penciled in for the everyday role in center while Melvin Upton Jr. (foot) is out. While Young was batting just .200 for the spring coming into Thursday, he has gotten on base at a .400 clip in five games while adding three stolen bases and playing quality defense. With Young occupied in center, the door may be open for Zoilo Almonte to carve out the platoon role in left.

Young could compete for part-time duties at second base during spring training, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Young has made just a handful of appearances at second base in recent seasons, but he came up as a second baseman and could be an option at the keystone if the team plays Alberto Callaspo at third against right-handed pitching. The 29-year-old Young is also a candidate to platoon in left field with Jonny Gomes, and the team also sees him as an option to lead off against right-handed pitching. Jace Peterson and Phil Gosselin could both be options at second as well, but everything will hinge on their performances during Grapefruit League play.

The Braves view Young as a candidate to lead off against right-handed pitching, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
First things first, Young, who will be in camp as a non-roster invitee, will need to beat out Zoilo Almonte for the left-field platoon role alongside Jonny Gomes. Manager Fredi Gonzalez seems to like the idea of having the speedy Young atop the order against right-handers, as that would allow Nick Markakis (neck) to move down in the order. However, Young hit just .229/.299/.311 in 100 games with the Mets last season (316 PA) and it seems inevitable that top prospect Jose Peraza will ultimately assume leadoff duties.
