The Atlanta Hawks have decided to pick up the 2023-2024 player option on center Bruno Fernando. The 24-year-old will make a little less than $2.6 million next season. The expectation is that Fernando will fill the role as the third center on the roster. That being said, it's unlikely that he gets much playing time unless something happens to Clint Capela. This appears to be mainly a depth move for Atlanta, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect Fernando to have fantasy value going into the season.

Fernando just started to ramp up his minutes over the last few games, but his productivity hasn't been anything to write home about. He's only worth adding in very deep leagues if fantasy managers are desperate for rebounds and a couple of blocks.

All the hype has been around Alperen Sengun, but Fernando has started the season as Houston's starting center and he looked very impressive in the season opener on Wednesday against Atlanta, bagging seven points with nine rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. He had to settle for just four points, four rebounds and two assists in 12 minutes Friday. Sengun saw extended minutes with Fernando unavailable and went off for 23 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. He will look to repeat the performance Saturday night.
