Fri Feb 212:21Giants Won't Be Re-Signing Brandon Belt
The San Francisco Giants officials tossed the idea around of re-signing first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt, but signing the lefty-hitting DH would mean shifting lefty hitting Michael Conforto to the outfield and potentially sending Luis Matos back to Triple-A, reducing the team's overall range and athleticism. Belt hit 19 home runs in 339 at-bats in 2023 with the Toronto Blue Jays, and his 136 OPS+ would have matched Wilmer Flores for the highest on the Giants last season. The 35-year-old plans to continue playing in 2024 and is believed to be close to signing with a new team, but it won't be the Giants, and he's also unlikely to return to Toronto after they recently signed veteran Justin Turner, who at this point in his career will most likely be a full-time DH. The best-case landing spot for Belt is probably the World Series-champion Texas Rangers.

Mon Jan 2919:06Rangers Have Discussed Brandon Belt
The Texas Rangers have had internal discussions about signing free-agent first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt, who played for manager Bruce Bochy in San Francisco. On paper, Belt is a perfect fit for the Rangers, as he'd effectively replace Mitch Garver in their lineup. However, the question all offseason has been how much cash general manager Chris Young has available. Texas just signed reliever David Robertson and are the favorites to re-sign lefty Jordan Montgomery, but it remains to be seen if there would be any money left after that for a hitter like Belt. The 35-year-old lefty slugger was one of just six players in baseball to generate a barrel percentage of at least 15% and a chase rate below 23%, which led to a nice .369 on-base percentage and a great .890 OPS against right-handed pitching.

Thu Oct 5 202314:47Brandon Belt Undecided On Playing Future
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt, now a free agent following the Blue Jays' elimination from the postseason on Wednesday, is undecided on whether he will continue his playing career in 2024. Belt said he will talk with his family before making any final decisions on his future. The veteran signed a one-year deal with the Blue Jays for the 2023 season and hit .254 with 19 home runs and an .859 OPS across 103 games played. He caught fire after a slow start, hitting .264 with a massive .319 isolated power and .958 OPS after the All-Star break, production that graded out 61% above the league average, as per his 161 second-half wRC+. His performance this season will surely garner interest on the open market should he decide to return for the 2024 campaign.

Mon Oct 2 202312:36Brandon Belt On A Homer Binge
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt is on fire heading into the postseason. In the 12-8 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in the regular season finale, Belt went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a strikeout. The 35-year-old has been hot in September and now has cleared the fences three times in the last four games as the Blue Jays head into the postseason. Belt finishes the year with 19 home runs while hitting .254/.369/.490 with an .858 OPS, 43 RBI and 53 runs scored in 339 at-bats in his first year in Toronto. Most importantly, though, he's hit .296 (8-for-27) with four homers, a double, six RBI and six runs scored in nine games (seven starts) in the final month of the regular season while also dealing with an injury.

Sun Oct 1 202318:58Brandon Belt Launches A Solo Shot Versus Tampa Bay
Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Brandon Belt had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's game against the Rays, despite the team's loss. This marked his third dinger in the last four games. The 35-year-old recently returned from the IL. Belt's regular season concludes with him posting a slash line of .254/.369/.490. He also slugged 19 home runs and recorded 43 RBI in 339 at-bats.

Sat Sep 30 202312:52Brandon Belt Resting On Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. George Springer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff, while Cavan Biggio draws a start in right field and is hitting in the two-hole against Rays right-handed opener Shawn Armstrong. Belt has gone deep in back-to-back games, but the 35-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran will get a day of rest before the regular season finale on Sunday. He's missed some time with injuries in his first year in Toronto, but overall Belt has been solid with a .252 average (83-for-329) with 17 homers and 41 RBI. He's played in just six games (five starts) in September due to injury, but he's gone 5-for-17 (.294) with two homers and a double.

Tue Sep 26 202317:21Brandon Belt Activated And Starting Tuesday
The Toronto Blue Jays activated first baseman Brandon Belt (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and also recalled reliever Jay Jackson from the minors. In corresponding moves, the team optioned first baseman Spencer Horwitz and right-hander Nate Pearson to the Florida Complex League. Belt is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth for Toronto on Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees and right-hander Michael King. The 35-year-old veteran left-handed slugger is back for the first time since landing on the IL on Sept. 12 with back spasms. The Jays will hope Belt will be better to close out the regular season than he was in six games (five starts) just before his injury, when he went 3-for-18 (.167) with a homer, an RBI and nine strikeouts.

Sat Sep 23 202300:25Brandon Belt Working Toward Return
First baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (back) traveled with the Toronto Blue Jays to Tropicana Field for their series against the Tampa Bay Rays and was set to hit off a machine on Friday. The next step for the veteran slugger could be to face live pitching, barring any setbacks, at the team's complex in Florida. Belt appears to be inching closer to a return from lumbar spine muscle spasms, which forced him to the injured list early last week. The 35-year-old has been encumbered by back issues throughout the second half of the year. Belt has proven to be a nice pickup for the Jays this season, slashing a solid .251/.369/.470 with 16 home runs, 22 doubles, and 38 RBI in 382 plate appearances.

Mon Sep 11 202322:56Brandon Belt Leaves Early With Back Spasms
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (back) left Monday's game early against the Texas Rangers due to lower-back muscle spasms. Before he left, Belt went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts to drop his season average to .251 and his OPS to .839 on the year. He was replaced as the designated hitter by rookie Spencer Horwitz. The 35-year-old Belt has been dealing with some back issues in the second half of the season, and this is certainly something that could send the veteran left-handed hitter to the injured list for most, if not all, of the 2023 regular season. Belt entered Monday's game hitting .252/.371/.473 with an .844 OPS, 16 home runs, 38 RBI and 50 runs scored in 317 at-bats in his first year in Toronto.

Sun Sep 10 202311:44Brandon Belt Remains Out Of Sunday’s Lineup
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (illness) remains out of Sunday's lineup versus the Kansas City Royals. The 35-year-old hasn't been seen in action since last Sunday due first to a back problem and now a stomach virus. Belt's next opportunity to return arrives on Monday for Game 1 of a four-game set with the Texas Rangers. The one-time All-Star is slashing a dependable .252/.371/.473 with 16 home runs, 22 doubles, and 38 RBI in 380 plate appearances, so he's been relevant in AL-only leagues.

Mon Sep 4 202314:37Brandon Belt Out Against A's
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (back) is not playing on Monday against the Oakland Athletics. It will be Belt's third straight missed game due to a back injury that continues to bother him of late. In his absence, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is serving as the designated hitter and is batting third, while rookie Spencer Horwitz is playing first base and hitting cleanup for Toronto against A's rookie right-hander Luis Medina. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if Belt eventually lands on the injured list if he cannot return soon. The 35-year-old is having a decent first year in Toronto and he's coming off a strong month of August in which he hit .284 (21-for-74) with seven home runs, four doubles, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored in 21 games (20 starts).

Fri Sep 1 202319:45Brandon Belt Returns To DH Role
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt (back) has returned to the team's starting lineup against right-hander Chris Flexen and the Colorado Rockies, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Back issues kept Belt out of the last two games, but it wasn't a serious issue and he's now available for the start of a series against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 35-year-old left-handed slugger has good history in his career at hitter-friendly Coors Field during his time with the San Francisco Giants, and he's had a pretty solid first year in Toronto. Belt has hit .250 (78-for-312) with 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 47 runs scored in 312 at-bats. He's also coming off a strong month of August, going 21-for-74 (.284) with seven round-trippers, four doubles, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored in 21 games (20 starts).

Tue Aug 29 202323:06Brandon Belt Unavailable Due To Back Spasms
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (back) "wasn't available" for Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals after dealing with lower-back spasms. Belt wasn't going to start against a left-handed pitcher on Tuesday anyway, but he wasn't available at all off the bench either due to the injury. There's a pretty good chance he won't be available to play on Wednesday as well, but fantasy managers will want to check back later. In his first year in Toronto in 2023, the 35-year-old veteran left-handed hitter has mostly been a part-time bat for the Jays against right-handed pitching. Belt has been decent with a .250/.369/.465 slash line with an .834 OPS, 15 home runs, 37 RBI and 47 runs scored in his 374 plate appearances. Given his injury history, don't be surprised if he needs a stint on the injured list.

Sat Aug 26 202312:13Brandon Belt Sitting Against Southpaw
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt is retreating to the bench on Saturday with the Cleveland Guardians starting left-hander Logan Allen. Bo Bichette is getting a day off his feet and will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the two-hole, while Santiago Espinal is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Allen. It's not a surprise that Belt is on the bench despite his recent hot streak at the plate. The 35-year-old veteran left-handed slugger has just 22 plate appearances against lefties all year and has hit four of his 19 home runs against them. Belt is having a decent season in his first year in Toronto and has gone 6-for-21 in his last six games with four home runs, six RBI and four runs scored.

Fri Aug 25 202312:13Brandon Belt Homers Again In Losing Effort
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a strikeout in the team's 5-3 loss to the division-rival Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. Belt now has four home runs in his last four games to bring his season total to 15 through 301 at-bats in his first year in Toronto. In the month of August he's been on a tear, going 20-for-63 (.318) with seven long balls, four doubles, 11 RBI and 16 runs scored in 18 games (17 starts). Fantasy managers are going to want to keep the 35-year-old in their starting lineups while he continues to swing a hot bat. Overall in 2023, he's slashing .256/.372/.478 with an .851 OPS, 37 RBI and 46 runs scored in 91 games played.

Fri Aug 4 202317:08Brandon Belt Sitting Against Left-Hander
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt will retreat to the bench on Friday with the team facing a left-hander. Alejandro Kirk will serve as the designated hitter and will bat fifth against Boston Red Sox left-hander James Paxton. Danny Jansen is behind the plate for Toronto and is batting cleanup. The 35-year-old Belt has seen just 26 plate appearances in his first year in Toronto against southpaws, and he's gone 4-for-22 against them with zero home runs, two RBI and 10 strikeouts against them. Belt will pretty much only be in Toronto's lineup when they are facing righties. He's offered very modest counting stats for fantasy managers this year, hitting .246 (61-for-248) with nine homers, 27 RBI and 33 runs scored.

Wed Jun 21 202312:05Brandon Belt Activated And Starting Wednesday
The Toronto Blue Jays activated first baseman Brandon Belt (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned first baseman Spencer Horwitz to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Belt will serve as the designated hitter and bat third in the order in his return on Wednesday against Miami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. The 35-year-old left-handed slugger missed the minimum time on the 10-day IL. He will return to a .263/.378/.434 slash line with an .812 OPS, four home runs, 14 doubles, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored in 180 trips to the plate over 48 games in his first year in Toronto. The power has been lacking, but Belt has been solid for fantasy managers in on-base-percentage leagues.

Tue Jun 13 202317:52Brandon Belt Placed On 10-Day IL, Danny Jansen Reinstated
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 11. The team also reinstated catcher Danny Jansen (groin) from the 10-day IL, placed right-hander Adam Cimber on the paternity list, recalled infielder Ernie Clement and right-hander Bowden Francis from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned catcher Tyler Heineman to Buffalo. Belt was pulled out of Saturday's contest early due to a left-hamstring issue. Luckily, the MRI came back clean, and Belt isn't dealing with any structural damage. However, the team decided to take the cautious approach and give Belt some time off to recover. The 35-year-old is slashing .263/.378/.434 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 46 games this season.

Mon Jun 12 202309:19Brandon Belt Avoids Serious Injury
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Brandon Belt (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after an MRI revealed no structural damage. That's good news after Belt was forced to exit early during Saturday's game due to a left hamstring issue. The team held Belt out of Sunday's contest as a precaution. The Jays have a scheduled off day on Monday, so hopefully Belt is ready to return on Tuesday. The 35-year-old is slashing .263/.378/.434 with four homers and 16 RBI in 46 games this season. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Tuesday for another update on his status.

Sun Jun 11 202312:19Brandon Belt On The Bench Against Twins
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt (hamstring) is out of Sunday's lineup against the Minnesota Twins. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to fantasy managers after Belt was forced from Saturday's game early with a tight left hamstring. It's unclear what the results are of his MRI exam, but this is certainly an injury that could send Belt to the injured list. In his first year in Toronto, the 35-year-old veteran left-handed slugger is batting .263 (40-for-152) with 14 doubles, four home runs, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored in 180 trips to the plate and 48 games. He's been much better in eight games in June, going 8-for-27 (.296) with four doubles, two homers and four RBI, so hopefully he won't miss too much time. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the DH and is hitting third, while Cavan Biggio is at first and batting ninth against Twins right-hander Louie Varland on Sunday.
