Rockies purchased the contract of OF Kyle Parker from Double-A Tulsa.
Parker was a first-round pick of the team in 2010 and has hit .293/.374/.510 through three minor league seasons. The 24-year-old is protected from being drafted in the Rule 5 Draft in December. It likely won't be long before he gets a shot with the big club.

Tue Oct 22 201315:18Kyle Parker struggling in AFL
Rockies prospect Kyle Parker is batting .152/.176/.303 with two home runs in 12 strikeouts through eight games in the Arizona Fall League.
Parker, a former quarterback at the University of Clemson, posted an .836 OPS with 23 home runs this past season at Double-A Tulsa. However, after splitting time between the outfield and first base, the Rockies are auditioning the 24-year-old at the latter position this fall, suggesting they view him as a potential replacement for the retired Todd Helton. Parker homered in his first AFL contest but, since then, he's struck out multiple times in four of seven games. He has plenty of power, especially in context of Coors Field, however, both his approach and contact rate will need to improve before reaching the major leagues.

Parker had a disappointing year -- throwing 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions -- and is leaving Clemson to begin his professional baseball career in the spring.

Wed Jul 21 201009:28Rockies' draft pick Parker to stay at Clemson
Rockies first-round pick Kyle Parker intends to announce that he will stay at Clemson for his sophomore season to play football in the fall.
Parker was drafted No. 26 overall, so the Rockies will have to go overslot to pull him away from the starting quarterback job at Clemson. The deadline isn't until August 16, so there is still time to come to an agreement, possibly involving some sort of compromise that would enable him to continue to playing football. Should he eventually sign with the Rockies, he is projected as an outfielder.
