RHP Andrew Moore was scheduled to start against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night, but was scratched with a stiff neck. Moore (1-5, 5.34 ERA) won his major league debut on June 22 against the Detroit Tigers, but will end the season winless in his past 10 appearances, including nine starts.

RHP Andrew Moore will start Saturday against the Angels. It will be his final start in a rookie season that has been all about learning how to battle through adversity. Moore won his major league debut, holding the Detroit Tigers to three runs and six hits in seven innings on June 22. But he hasn't won since, and overall is 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA in 11 games (nine starts). He has faced the Angels once, giving up four runs and six hits in 1 2/3 innings during a relief appearance on Aug. 11.

RHP Andrew Moore will start on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels in place of RHP Felix Hernandez, who has battled right shoulder soreness throughout much of the season Moore is 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA in 11 appearances, including nine starts, this season. "Andrew Moore, first time up in the big leagues," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "It's been good. He's learned a lot though his struggles. He seems to have bounce back pretty well."

RHP Andrew Moore was one possibility to start on Saturday, Servais said. While Servais declined to name a starter for the contest against Cleveland, he praised Moore, who has posted a 3.24 ERA in 11 2/3 innings in September. "I think Andrew Moore's well on his way, kind of getting the ball rolling again in the right direction with some of the adjustments he's made," Servais said. "We're seeing some results off it and that's what you want to see from young players." For the season, Moore is 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 45 innings.

RHP Andrew Moore carried a shutout into the fifth inning before coming undone, allowing a two-run homer to Astros LF Derek Fisher and ultimately surrendering three runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings. It marked the first time since Aug. 11 against the Angels that Moore failed to pitch at least six innings. Moore matched his career low with just one strikeout.

After entering the season as Seattle's top-rated pitching prospect, Moore has gone 1-3 with a 6.34 ERA in 34 2/3 innings over seven appearances with six starts. "Putting guys away, that's what I struggled with," Moore said. He admitted coming on in relief was something new. "I've done piggyback a few times (in the low levels of the minors), but nothing like that. It was hard trying to stay locked in (while in the bullpen). It's just a matter of getting your head right." Moore was 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in six starts for the Mariners earlier this season.

"We need to get Moore back on track," said Mariners manager Scott Servais, citing the rookie's command. "He came up against Detroit and threw 18 of 18 first-pitch strikes or something like that. When he's trying to come back from down 2-0, 2-1 (in the count), he struggled." Servais said Moore still has a bright future. "I've said I think he's going to win a lot of games as a Mariner, and I still believe that" the manager said. "Where we're at in the playoff situation and trying to chase a wild-card (berth), we thought it'd be best to let him regroup in Tacoma."

RHP Andrew Moore (1-3) suffered the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up two home runs, to Sandy Leon and Rafael Devers, the Nos. 8-9 batters in Boston's lineup. "The home run ball continues to get him a little bit," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He's learning and I certainly like his competitiveness. He just didn't have that strikeout pitch today."

That included a three-run homer to Aaron Judge, a blast that nearly left Safeco Field and was estimated at 450 feet. "He made a bad pitch to Judge. Bad pitch in a bad spot and a bad result," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He does have that fastball that rises up in the zone and guys in the big leagues are going to hit that farther than guys in the minor leagues. ... Andrew's learning. I still like the way he's going about it."

He has allowed at least one home run in all four of his starts. Moore's ERA is 5.25.

He's a really good competitor and kept us in there."
