(AP) — Tampa Bay Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier has had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb that will sideline him two to three months.Kiermaier was injured sliding headfirst into second base during a 10-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. He had the procedure Friday.This is the third straight season the two-time Gold Glove winner will miss significant time because of injury.Kiermaier, batting .163 with one RBI, missed 48 games in 2016 after breaking his left wrist diving for a ball. OF Brandon Snyder hit a solo pinch-hit homer on Friday. It was his fourth homer of the year. It was his third pinch-hit homer of the year and fourth of his career. Of Snyder's 11 hits this season, 10 have been for extra bases. He became the first Brave with three pinch-hit homers in a season since Evan Gattis had four in 2013.

OF Brandon Snyder hit his second homer of the season Friday -- a three-run pinch-hit shot. It was only the second pinch-hit homer for the Braves this season. All four of Snyder's hits this season have gone for extra bases.

Snyder had been on the DL since May 9 with a hamstring strain, but he'll rejoin the team and look to pick up where he left off. In 11 games before hitting the DL, Snyder was hitting .306 with five doubles and two home runs.

Snyder has not played at Double-A since May 9 and was placed on the DL with a hamstring strain, MASN Sports reports.

Snyder returned the Orioles organization in April, but he provides organizational depth at this point in his career. He spent a partial season at Triple-A in Boston's organization last year and he was hitting .303 with two home runs and five doubles for Baltimore's Double-A affiliate before the injury.
