Fri Oct 17 201420:56Brian Roberts: Announces Retirement
Roberts announced his retirement Friday, the Baltimore Sun reports.
A two-time All-Star, Roberts hit just .237/.300/.360 in 91 games with the Yankees this season, and ultimately decided that he just could no longer play at the level he demanded of himself. Roberts, now 37, was drafted by the Orioles with a supplemental first-round pick in 1999 and was in the major leagues within two years, but injuries limited him to 192 games over his final four seasons in Baltimore.
Sat Aug 9 201412:14Roberts granted unconditional release from Yankees on Saturday
Roberts was granted his unconditional release from the Yankees on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
The Yankees were unable to find a willing trade partner to acquire Roberts after the team DFA'd him last week, and with the veteran infielder uninterested in accepting a minor league assignment, he'll cut ties entirely with the organization. Given Roberts' age, health concerns and middling production with the Yankees this season, he may have difficulty finding another major league opportunity this season.
Fri Aug 1 201416:54Roberts designated for assignment Friday
Roberts was designated for assignment Friday.
Roberts was the odd man out after the Yankees acquired Stephen Drew and Martin Prado before the trade deadline. He will likely elect free agency and look elsewhere for work for the remainder of the season.

Roberts (general soreness) will be designated for assignment by the Yankees, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
Roberts will find himself out of a job due to the Yankees' acquisition of Stephen Drew, who is expected to be the primary second baseman. The Yankees also acquired Martin Prado prior to Thursday's deadline, giving them additional infield help and making Roberts' services expendable. The veteran was hitting just .237 for the Bronx Bombers this year, but may eventually catch on with another team.

Brian Roberts belted a solo homer, his fifth of the season, in a losing effort against the Orioles on Friday.
The second inning blast off Miguel Gonzalez was of the solo variety and gave the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. He has managed to stay relatively healthy this season, hitting .246/.313/.384 with five homers and 20 RBI in his 276 at-bats.

Brian Roberts went 2-for-5 and hit a game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth Monday versus the Rays.

Fri Jun 20 201423:08Roberts collects 1500th career hit
Brian Roberts collected his 1500th career hit when he singled in the second inning against the Orioles.
Fittingly, Roberts achieved this milestone against his former ballclub. He's the 600th player to reach the 1500 mark. After the hit, he promptly stole second. Age and injuries have eaten away at Roberts' productivity (.234/.320/.333), but he was a rock solid second baseman for Baltimore in the mid-2000's and it's a nice career marker.

It was his first RBI since May 26. Roberts has stayed healthy for the most part this season, but he has done next to nothing at the plate, putting up a modest .236/.309/.345 batting line over 53 games.

Wed May 7 201401:25Roberts smacks game-winning HR to down Halos
Brian Roberts played hero for the Yankees Tuesday, taking Ernesto Frieri deep for the game-winning home run in a 4-3 victory against the Angels.
He finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Roberts had a horrific start to the season, batting .213 with a .590 OPS as recently as the start of play on Friday. Since then, he's hit safely in four consecutive games, going 7-for-17 (.412). Roberts may just become AL-only relevant, after all. He's got the average up to .250 and the OPS up to .664.

Fri Apr 25 201423:26Roberts singles in Friday's loss to Angels
Brian Roberts went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout in Friday's blowout loss to the Angels.
Roberts has hit safely in four straight games (three of them multi-hit games), but he's still batting just .222/.315/.270 on the year. The oft-injured second baseman has just two extra-base hits so far. It's a great situation to play half of your games in Yankee Stadium, but he hasn't done anything to show that he'll take advantage of it.

Roberts is nursing a lower back strain but has been given medication and is starting to feel better. Consider him day-to-day for now, but, given his history, a trip to the DL can't be ruled out. Yangervis Solarte is starting at second base in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
