Dodgers released RHP Carlos Monasterios.
Monasterios posted a 4.38 ERA in 32 appearances for the Dodgers in 2010, but he had Tommy John surgery last year and needed surgery again last month to relocate the ulna nerve in his right elbow. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but he'll need to find a new organization when he's healthy.

Sat Feb 26 201118:13Dodgers' Monasterios lit up by Giants
Carlos Monasterios gave up four runs and five hits in his inning of relief against the Giants on Saturday.
Monasterios was a useful utility pitcher for the Dodgers last season, but since his status as a Rule 5 pick no longer protects him from getting sent down, he's expected to open 2011 in Triple-A.
Wed Sep 29 201018:29Dodgers' Monasterios gives up five runs
Carlos Monasterios yielded five runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Rockies.
Monasterios, a Rule 5 pick out of the Phillies organization, wilted as a starter, going 2-5 with a 5.91 ERA in 13 outings. However, he did have a 2.06 ERA in 35 innings out of the pen. The Dodgers figure to keep him on the 40-man and let him compete for a spot in middle relief next spring.
Sun Jul 25 201020:39Monasterios OK after being struck by ball
Carlos Monasterios doesn't have concussion symptoms after being hit in the head by a Carlos Beltran foul ball while he sat in the dugout during Sunday's game.
"He's all right," manager Joe Torre said. "That was scary. I don't think he saw it. [Ronnie] Belliard saw it, but he's fine." Monasterios should be able to make his start against the Giants next week.

Sat Jul 24 201019:58Monasterios tosses 5 shutout frames vs. Mets
Carlos Monasterios hurled five shutout innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday.
Monasterios was far from perfect, allowing baserunners in every inning by virtue of six hits and a walk, but was able to keep the Mets off the board. It was his first start back out of the bullpen, so he was pulled after throwing 81 pitches. James McDonald, who was yanked from the rotation, gave up the lead once Monasterios left the game. Dodgers GM Ned Colletti will continue to look for a reasonable alternative before the deadline, but Monasterios should remain in the rotation to start against the Giants next week.
Wed Jul 7 201018:08Dodgers activate Monasterios from 15-day DL
Dodgers activated RHP Carlos Monasterios from the 15-day disabled list.
The right-hander hit the disabled list on June 19 due to a blister on his right index finger. He allowed 10 earned runs in his last 6 2/3 innings before the injury and should probably be limited to mop-up duty.
Wed Jul 7 201014:16Monasterios (finger) to come off DL Wednesday
Carlos Monasterios (finger) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday.
Monasterios tossed three shutout innings for Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday and completed a successful bullpen session on Tuesday. The Rule-5 pick has been sidelined since June 19 due to a blister on his right index finger.

Sun Jul 4 201016:03Dodger's Monasterios (finger) ready to return
Dodgers pitcher Carlos Monasterios (finger) should be ready to return mid-week according to manager Joe Torre.
Monasterios didn't pitch that well on his rehab stint, and with Vincente Padilla now healthy, he will return to a sixth-starter/long-man role in the bullpen. The bullpen is where he belongs, as his minor league history as a starter is nondescript.

Wed Jun 30 201009:23Monasterios struggles in rehab start
Carlos Monasterios (finger) allowed five runs -- four earned -- over 3 2/3 innings in his first minor league rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday night.
Monasterios downplayed the severity of the blister on his index finger when he was placed on the disabled list earlier this month, but Monday's outing at least suggests that he is not quite ready to return. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out four and walked three and threw 52 out of 82 pitches for strikes. As a Rule-5 pick, Monasterios can't be sent to the minor leagues without first clearing waivers.

Mon Jun 21 201009:08Monasterios says blister not reason for DLing
Carlos Monasterios said Sunday that the blister that landed him on the 15-day disabled list is not a problem at all.
Yeah, sounds about right. Monasterios, a Rule 5 Draft pick, was placed on the disabled list this weekend essentially so that the Dodgers would not be forced to return him to the Phillies. "It doesn't affect me," the righty said of the blister. He allowed 10 earned runs in his last 6 2/3 innings before hitting the DL, but the Dodgers believe he has some talent.

Sat Jun 19 201016:25Dodgers place Monasterios on disabled list
Dodgers placed RHP Carlos Monasterios on the 15-day disabled list with a blister on his index finger.
The Rule 5 Draft pick allowed six runs in four innings, taking a loss on Friday night against the Red Sox. Monasterios made no mention of a blister or any other injury after the game, but placing him on the disabled list will allow the Dodgers some roster flexibility while he works out some of his recent kinks. Look for him to start a rehab assignment shortly.
Sat Jun 19 201014:10Report: Monasterios to disabled list
Dylan Hernandez reports that Carlos Monasterios is headed to the disabled list with a blister on his finger.
With Vicente Padilla ready to come off the disabled list, this could be the move the Dodgers make to clear a spot for him on the active roster. Monasterios had a rocky last outing, but he's been pretty good for the Dodgers as a sixth starter. He's 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP in six starts.

Wed Jun 9 201022:50Monasterios to get at least one more start
Carlos Monasterios is likely to get at least one more start for the Dodgers.
Monasterios will start on Sunday against the Angels. If he pitches well, the Dodgers could keep him around for a little while longer. If not, they'll hand his rotation spot to Vicente Padilla when Padilla returns from the disabled list late next week. Monasterios, 24, is 3-0 with a 2.27 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 17/11 K/BB ratio through four starts (15 appearances) with the Dodgers.

Tue Jun 8 201001:19Dodgers' Monasterios moves to 3-0
Carlos Monasterios yielded three runs over six innings Mo nday in a win over the Cardinals.
Monasterios had another successful outing despite giving up a pair of homers and failing to strike out any of the 24 hitters he faced. It helped a whole bunch that he retired Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday three times apiece. Monasterios is far from a sure thing going forward, but he'll certainly be worth using in NL-only leagues until he posts a couple of bad results back-to-back.
Wed Jun 2 201019:30Dodgers' Monasterios goes five scoreless
Rule 5 pick Carlos Monasterios shut out the Diamondbacks for five innings in his start Wednesday.
The Dodgers continue to be careful with Monasterios, pulling him after 81 pitches today. He has a 1.87 ERA in three straight and eight relief appearances for the team, so there's the chance that he'll stick in the rotation after Vicente Padilla returns.
Wed May 26 201011:08Monasterios to start on Friday
Carlos Monasterios will start against the Rockies on Friday night.
Ramon Ortiz failed to impress with two turns out of the fifth spot in the rotation, so Monasterios will get another shot. The 21-year-old right-hander allowed one run over four innings in his first major league start against the Pirates on May 1. The Rule 5 pick has a 1.90 ERA over 23 2/3 innings this season.

Carlos Monasterios allowed one run in four innings Saturday against the Pirates in his first major league start.
Monasterios' didn't throw more than 2 2/3 innings in any of his appearances last month, so he was removed after 73 pitches tonight. It's possible he'll get another spot start next week, but the Dodgers would prefer to leave him in middle relief.
