DETROIT (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have signed right-handed reliever Matt Belisle, bringing back the popular veteran after a stint with Cleveland.The Twins made the move Tuesday before their game at Detroit and designated utility infielder Gregorio Petit for release or assignment to make room on the roster.Belisle had a 5.06 ERA for the Indians in eight appearances earlier this season before being assigned to Triple-A Columbus. The 38-year-old posted a 4.03 ERA for the Twins in 2017 in 62 appearances. He moved from setup man to a ninth-inning role after closer Brandon Kintzler was traded.Twins relievers rank 21st in the major leagues with a 4.15 ERA.Petit had 26 at-bats for the Twins. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have placed third baseman Miguel Sano on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.The Twins made the before their game against Toronto, retroactive to Saturday. Sano is batting just .213 in 20 games, with four doubles, five home runs, 14 RBIs and nine walks.Manager Paul Molitor, at least, sounded optimistic about Sano avoiding a long absence. Sano was diagnosed with the least severe strain."We'll just try to keep him doing what we can in the short term and see what happens," Molitor said.To replace Sano, the Twins selected the contract of infielder Gregorio Petit from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins right-hander Ervin Santana will miss the start of the regular season after unexpected surgery on his right middle finger.The Twins announced the 35-year-old right-hander had the procedure Tuesday in New York by Dr. Charles Melone, after Santana experienced discomfort during a bullpen session last week. Santana is expected to need 10 to 12 weeks of rehabilitation before he can pitch in a major league game, which would keep him out of the rotation until at least mid-April.Santana has had trouble with the digit before and had an X-ray and MRI after the 2017 season, when doctors determined there was no injury to the tendon. He was treated with an injection at the time. The injury resurfaced last week, and Melone's recommendation was surgery. The procedure to the joint of the finger is a capsular release/debridement.
