At the time, 3B Josh Donaldson had a sore leg after being hit by a pitch and was used as designated hitter for a few games. Dominguez was 0-for-7 in three games with Toronto. In 17 games at Buffalo, he is batting .311 with two homers and 14 RBIs.

"(Dominguez) is a good defender, a real good defender," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "That will help us out. In the past we've really only had three first basemen. Now we've got a guy who can play both sides. That's valuable." Said Dominguez: "I think I played three or four games (at first base in Buffalo). It's a little different, completely backwards looking at the field. But I just have to remember cut-offs and things like that, that's the biggest key. Catching the ball and things like that are fine." RHP Drew Hutchison, who won a spot start Sunday, was returned to Buffalo on option to make room for Dominguez.

The Astros need a spot on the 40-man roster for top prospect Carlos Correa, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Monday. While 25-year-old players with over 1,200 career big-league at-bats typically aren't available on waivers, Dominguez will likely slide through unclaimed, as he hasn't made any real progress in the batter's box. Following last year's dreadful performance with the Astros, he owns a .251/.289/.371 slash line for Triple-A Fresno this season.

Dominguez is 7-for-34 (.206) with four doubles and nine RBI through nine games for Triple-A Fresno.

Dominguez is a strong defender at third base who has shown decent power at the big league level, but the Astros have plenty of depth at the corner infield spots. While an injury would seemingly open the door for a promotion, it's no guarantee that the 25-year-old will see time in Houston this season.

Dominguez was optioned to Astros' minor league camp on Sunday.

In 16 Grapefruit League games, Dominguez hit .250 with two RBI and no extra-base hits over 36 at-bats. The 25-year-old will open 2015 with Triple-A Fresno, where he'll get regular at-bats while playing third and first base.

Dominguez will put in some work at first base this spring training as manager A.J. Hinch wants Dominguez to be more versatile, the Astros' official site reports.

Hinch said the versatility could help Dominguez make the team out of camp. The Astros have plenty of depth at first base with Jon Singleton, Chris Carter, and Evan Gattis on the team, so it's suspect to even think Dominguez could get enough starts this season to earn first base eligibility.

Dominguez is out of Sunday's lineup against the Mets.

After a very weak year at the plate, Dominguez will sit out the season finale with Gregorio Petit taking his place at third.

Dominguez is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers.

Dominguez broke out of a cold spell and now has a hit in his past four starts, including three in a row with an RBI. He'll get the day off, with Gregorio Petit assuming third base duties in his place.

Dominguez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Indians.

An 0-for-3 showing Monday extended Dominguez's hitless streak to five games and lowered his batting line for the month to .114/.162/.114. He'll turn the hot corner over to Gregorio Petit again Tuesday.

Dominguez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.

Dominguez is 0-for-7 over the last two games, and 2-for-14 over the past four, and will sit Saturday in favor of Gregorio Petit. Petit will man third and bat ninth for the Astros in his place.
