Fri Feb 1600:18Danny Duffy Competing For Fifth Rotation Spot
Texas Rangers veteran left-hander Danny Duffy is a bona-fide contender to make the Opening Day roster and is being evaluated for the fifth starting rotation spot in spring training, alongside fellow lefty Cody Bradford and at least six other pitchers. The 35-year-old southpaw has had three straight injury-plagued seasons, including last year with the Rangers on a minor-league deal, but he didn't allow a run in 15 2/3 innings in the Puerto Rican winter league. If he doesn't make the rotation, he'll be happy to work in a multi-inning relief role. Duffy said he hasn't felt as good as he does now since May of 2021, when he had a 2.51 ERA after 13 games before his elbow started barking. He has experience, but if he is pitching in the majors in 2024 for Texas, he'll be a very risky fantasy option in AL-only leagues.

Mon Feb 521:11Rangers Re-Sign Danny Duffy To Minor-League Deal
The Texas Rangers re-signed left-hander Danny Duffy to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Monday. In addition to Duffy, the Rangers also signed catcher Jose Godoy and left-hander Chasen Shreve. The 35-year-old Duffy didn't appear in the big leagues with the World Series champions in 2023, instead going 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 29 walks and 42 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings over 28 relief appearances for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock after 11 years as a starter for the Kansas City Royals. Injuries have kept him from appearing in the majors since 2021, so he hasn't been anywhere near the fantasy radar.

Fri Jan 27 202318:45Rangers Sign Clint Frazier, Danny Duffy To Minor-League Deals
The Texas Rangers signed free-agent outfielder Clint Frazier and left-hander Danny Duffy to minor-league deals on Friday. Once a top prospect for the Cleveland Guardians, Frazier spent the 2022 season with the Chicago Cubs and hit just .216 with a .653 OPS and no home runs in 19 games. Staying healthy has always been a big issue -- he's never played in more than 69 major-league games in a single season -- and he has a career slash line of .238/.329/.427 with a .756 OPS, 29 home runs and 98 RBI in six big-league seasons. Duffy had a left forearm injury that kept him from pitching in 2022. In his 11 major-league seasons with the Kansas City Royals, he has a 3.95 ERA (4.17 FIP), 1.32 WHIP and 21.1 percent strikeout rate in 234 outings (204 starts). Frazier and Duffy will provide some nice veteran depth if they can stay healthy in 2023.

Tue Aug 16 202218:33Danny Duffy Unlikely To Pitch This Season
According to Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy (forearm) had a setback while throwing live batting practice sessions recently. Roberts stated that Duffy is "pretty unlikely" to pitch this season as a result of the setback. The 33-year-old was traded to the Dodgers last season but was unable to contribute while rehabilitating a flexor tendon strain. He then went on to have surgery on his flexor tendon this past offseason. He signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers prior to the 2022 campaign, and there's a one-year club option for 2023 attached to the deal as well.

Fri Mar 18 202207:34Danny Duffy Agrees To Deal With Dodgers
Starting Pitcher Danny Duffy and the Los Angeles Dodgers have come to terms on a one-year deal, pending a physical, according to Fabian Ardaya. Duffy was acquired by the Dodgers from the Royals last season, but Duffy was never able to suit up for them due to an elbow injury. Duffy posted a 2.51 ERA with 65 strikeouts across 61 innings pitched for the Royals in 2021 and makes for an intriguing late-round selection in 2022.

Sat Sep 11 202120:01Danny Duffy Unlikely To Pitch Again This Year
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Danny Duffy (elbow) is unlikely to pitch again in 2021, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Manager Dave Roberts said that Duffy had started a bullpen session on Friday, but was unable to complete it as his elbow continued to bother him. Duffy has yet to make an appearance with Los Angeles since being acquired from Kansas City, as he is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA, 1.213 WHIP and 25.8 percent strikeout rate over 61 innings with the Royals. It was already unlikely he would have much value over this final stretch of the season, but any managers that were stashing him on the IL can safely drop him now.

Wed Aug 18 202121:34Danny Duffy To Be Used As A Multi-Inning Reliever
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Danny Duffy (forearm) will be used as a multi-inning reliever once activated from the 60-day injured list, per manager Dave Roberts. He won't be eligible to return until September 15. The southpaw has been sidelined since mid-July with a left flexor strain. Duffy has been effective as both a starter and reliever in 2021, owning a 2.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 65:22 K:BB across 61 innings in 2021. The 32-year-old is worth stashing in league formats with an IL spot and will help fantasy managers in ratios and strikeouts once he returns to action.

Fri Jul 30 202118:45Monster trade: Dodgers get Scherzer, Turner from Nationals
PHOENIX (AP) — A dizzying trade deadline saw the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers pull off the biggest whopper of them all. The Dodgers acquired three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer and All-Star shortstop Trea Turner, finalizing the deal for the dynamic duo from the Washington Nationals shortly before Friday's cutoff for making swaps. Washington acquired a pair of rookies, right-hander Josiah Gray and catcher Keibert Ruiz, and two minor leaguers, righty Gerardo Carrillo and outfielder Donovan Casey. The Nationals, who have fallen out of playoff contention made several trades in 24 hours to dismantle a roster that won the World Series in 2019 over the Houston Astros. “When I took a step back and made that look, I didn’t see a path to be a World Series caliber team this year, so I felt it was time to take a step sideways to allow us to take a step forward and get back to where we’re supposed to be, which is a championship-caliber organization,” Nationals general manager... Thu Jul 29 202120:24Dodgers get Royals left-hander Danny Duffy for playoff push
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers got Kansas City left-hander Danny Duffy in a trade Thursday as the World Series champions boosted their rotation for a playoff push. The Royals sent their longtime staff member and cash to the Dodgers for a player to be named. The 32-year-old Duffy is on the 10-day injured list with a strained left flexor and last pitched on July 16. He missed more than a month earlier this season with a similar injury. Duffy is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA this season. He got off to a super start, going 4-1 with an 0.60 ERA after five outings. Duffy began his major league career with the Royals in 2011, helped them win the 2015 World Series and was 68-68 with a 3.95 ERA while with Kansas City. With 10 years in the big leagues and the last five with the same team, Duffy could have vetoed a trade. Instead, he's going back to Southern California, where's he from, and leaving a team out of playoff contention for a club in the thick of the race. The Dodgers are three games... [More]

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Duffy is on the verge of being traded to the Dodgers, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Sonny Gray gave up two runs over seven innings, and Jonathan India hit a two-run double as the Cincinnati Reds rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and beat the Kansas City Royals 5-2 on Wednesday. Gray (2-4) allowed seven hits, struck out seven and walked two to end a three-start winless streak. “It was a hot day. He was battling," Cincinnati manager David Bell said. “And probably around the fourth inning or so, I didn’t know how much more he had left. It really does speak to number one, how great of a competitor he is. He found a way, and in that process of finding a way to kind of gather himself and get back out there.” Gray said he woke up feeling sick. “I feel like I definitely had an edge, maybe I was just trying to fake it until I could make it,” he said. “I tried all my tricks to get my nerves gone and I guess they just slowly went away where I could just go.” A day after blowing a 6-1 lead entering the eighth inning, the Reds bullpen came through....
