Wed Apr 1718:35Salvador Perez Smacks Go-Ahead Homer
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) made a significant impact during his return to the lineup on Wednesday. The 33-year-old backstop is playing through a Grade 1 left groin strain that he suffered earlier in the week. On Wednesday, Perez smacked a go-ahead two-run home run off right-hander Michael Kopech in the eighth inning. Perez is off to a red-hot start at the plate this season. He has five home runs and 17 RBI through 17 games.

Wed Apr 1712:23Salvador Perez Returns On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) is back behind the plate and is hitting cleanup for the Royals in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox and rookie right-hander Jonathan Cannon, who is making his big-league debut. A Grade 1 left-groin strain kept Perez out of Monday's lineup before Tuesday's contest was postponed. The 33-year-old's injury clearly wasn't too serious, but he'll most likely sit out for the second game of the doubleheader. The eight-time All-Star should be reinserted into all fantasy lineups now that he's active again. Perez is off to an excellent start at the plate in 2024, going 21-for-62 (.339) with four home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs scored in his first 16 games.

Tue Apr 1618:19Salvador Perez Remains Out On Tuesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. The veteran catcher has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 left groin strain. Despite that, Perez hasn't been placed on the injured list and is considered as day-to-day. It wouldn't be shocking to see Perez miss a few more games while he recovers from this issue. Freddy Fermin will cover behind the plate and bat eighth during Tuesday's game.

Mon Apr 1519:16Salvador Perez Has Grade 1 Groin Strain
An MRI exam on Monday morning revealed that Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) has a Grade 1 groin strain. Perez said he's pain-free and just has a little tightness/pinch after getting hurt on Sunday against the New York Mets. The veteran backstop was held out of the lineup on Monday versus the Chicago White Sox but is hoping to return to action on Tuesday. He went straight to manager Matt Quatraro's office on Monday and lobbied to play, but Freddy Fermin is doing the catching and is batting eighth against White Sox rookie righty Nick Nastrini. The 33-year-old Perez shouldn't need a trip to the injured list, and fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday to see if he's back in the starting lineup. Perez is off to a great start in 2024, batting .339 (21-for-62) with four home runs, two doubles and 15 RBI in just 16 games.

Mon Apr 1516:14Salvador Perez Not Playing Monday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin, hip) is not in the starting lineup on Monday against the Chicago White Sox on the road. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Perez isn't in there after he was pulled early from Sunday's game New York Mets with left groin and hip injuries. Catcher Logan Porter is currently on the team's taxi squad to begin the week just in case the 33-year-old Perez's injury ends up costing him more than just a few days. Freddy Fermin would be the team's primary backstop if Perez is forced to the injured list. Fermin is behind the plate and is batting eighth on Monday against White Sox rookie right-hander Nick Nastrini, who is making his big-league debut. Fermin has just five hits in his first 26 at-bats in 2024 for a .192 batting average and one RBI.

Mon Apr 1509:38Salvador Perez Has Left Groin, Hip Injuries
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez suffered a left groin and hip injury on Sunday when he collided with New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte at home plate. The veteran backstop left the game and was seen limping off of the field following the collision. He will be evaluated on Monday and an update is expected before the club kicks off a series against the rival White Sox. It's been a big start to the 2024 season for the long-time Royals catcher as Perez has hit .339 with four home runs and 15 RBI across 16 games and 65 trips to the plate, posting a healthy .934 OPS in the process. The heavily-used backstop continues to deliver quality power numbers into his mid-30s and should continue to drive in plenty of runs on an improved Royals offense in 2024.

Sun Apr 1416:05Salvador Perez Exits Early On Sunday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez left Sunday's game early after a collision at home plate with Starling Marte. Freddy Fermin entered the game for Perez, who walked off the field with a noticeable limp. It is too early to determine the severity of Perez's injury but hopefully it is nothing long term. Fermin would be the likely replacement if the 33-year-old is forced to miss time. Fermin had modest success at the plate in 2022, but he would only have true value in two-catcher leagues or AL Only formats.

Tue Apr 214:26Salvador Perez Records Two RBI
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez hit his second home run of the season and drove in two runs in a 6-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. Perez took Dean Kremer deep to give the Royals a 3-0 lead. Perez finished the game going 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while also striking out once. The Royals catcher is now slashing .250/.294/.625 with two homers and six RBIs. Perez will continue to bring value as a hitter as he's batting cleanup for Kansas City this season.

Tue Mar 500:46Salvador Perez Splitting Time Between Catcher And DH This Spring
Kansas City Royals catcher/designated hitter Salvador Perez is batting .267 with one home run and three RBI in 15 at-bats this spring while seeing time both at catcher and designated hitter. The 33-year-old also spent time at first base in 2023 while slashing .255/.292/.422 with 23 home runs, 59 runs scored, and 80 RBI in 580 plate appearances. Age and wear will get to Perez at some point, but his ability to rack up PA while playing multiple positions and serving as DH still makes him a higher-end fantasy catcher. It is encouraging to see the Royals managing his time behind the plate while still getting him in the lineup.

Sat Sep 23 202300:50Salvador Perez On Track For Return On Sunday
Catcher Salvador Perez (concussion) has cleared concussion protocol and will join the Kansas City Royals at Minute Maid Park during their series against the Houston Astros on Saturday. The veteran backstop sustained a mild concussion after taking a foul ball to his facemask last Saturday, but he is positioned to be activated from the 7-day injured list when first eligible for Sunday's series finale, per manager Matt Quatraro. Perez will aim to wrap up the campaign on a high note upon his return, as he's hitting only .252 with a .706 OPS (his lowest figures since 2018) with 21 home runs, 20 doubles, and 72 RBI in 511 at-bats. The eight-time All-Star should also supply a boost to fantasy playoff rosters in the championship round.

Mon Sep 18 202312:57Salvador Perez Goes On Concussion Injured List
The Kansas City Royals placed catcher Salvador Perez (concussion) on the seven-day concussion injured list (retroactive to Sept. 17) on Monday and selected the contract of catcher Tyler Cropley from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. The Royals also moved catcher Freddy Fermin (finger) to the 60-day injured list. Perez suffered the concussion on Saturday when he took a foul tip to the mask, and with very little time remaining before the end of the regular season, the 33-year-old veteran might have played his last game of 2023. For the time being, the Royals will roll with Cropley and Logan Porter as their two catchers. If this is the end of the year for Perez, he'd finish with a .252/.291/.415 slash line with 21 home runs, 72 RBI and 56 runs scored in 511 at-bats in 2023.

Sun Sep 17 202313:56Salvador Perez Not In The Lineup On Sunday Against Houston
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (head) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Houston Astros. Perez took a foul ball off his face mask in the fifth inning of Saturday's contest and left early with a "non-concussive head impact," according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Perez is reportedly feeling better, per manager Matt Quatraro, but he will start this one on the bench but could be available as a pinch-hitter. Logan Porter is starting behind the dish in Perez's place.

Fri Sep 1 202316:21Salvador Perez Returns As First Baseman
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (back, neck) is back in the team's starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox and left-hander James Paxton, making the start at first base and batting third in the order. Perez was held out as a precaution from Wednesday's game, but after an off day on Thursday, he's good to go. In 15 career at-bats against Paxton, Perez is hitting .267 with no home runs or RBI. The 33-year-old All-Star backstop finished the month of August on a cold note, going 4-for-34 (.118) with no homers, two RBI, 12 strikeouts and two runs scored in nine starts since Aug. 20, so fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick things back up to close out the 2023 season. Perez remains relevant in single-catcher leagues with 19 home runs on the year and 57 RBI in 459 at-bats.

Wed Aug 30 202319:08Salvador Perez Scratched On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (back, neck) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates with upper-back/neck tightness. Freddy Fermin will now do the catching for the Royals and will bat sixth in the order against Pirates right-hander Andre Jackson. Until we know more about Perez's injury, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. The Royals have an off day coming on Thursday, so perhaps the veteran backstop will be able to return for the series opener on Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox. It might be a good time for Perez to take some time off anyway, as he's gone 4-for-34 (.118) with no homers, two RBI, 12 strikeouts and two runs scored in his last nine starts since Aug. 20.

Tue Aug 8 202317:16Salvador Perez Back Behind The Plate Tuesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hand) is doing the catching and is batting cleanup for the Royals on Tuesday against right-hander Kutter Crawford and the Boston Red Sox. Perez suffered a left-hand bruise after getting hit by a pitch on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he's fine now and ready to roll. The 33-year-old eight-time All-Star should be returned to starting fantasy lineups right away. Perez is hitting .247 (18-for-73) with two home runs, four doubles, five RBI and five runs scored in 20 starts since the All-Star break. The Venezuelan veteran doesn't really hit for average anymore and doesn't get on base all that often, but he continues to be useful for his power stroke at the weakest position in fantasy.

Wed Jul 19 202318:16Salvador Perez Back Behind The Plate Wednesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hamstring) is back behind the plate and is hitting cleanup for the Royals on Wednesday against left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez and the visiting Detroit Tigers. A left-hamstring strain kept Perez out of the team's starting lineup the last few games, but he'll be back for fantasy managers on Wednesday. It's a tough matchup for the 33-year-old All-Star catcher, though, and he's hit just .154 with a home run and three RBI in a small sample size of 13 at-bats against Rodriguez in his career. Still, Perez should be returned to starting lineups in redraft leagues now that he's back. Perez currently has a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 7-for-12 with a double and two runs scored.

Tue Jul 18 202319:10Salvador Perez Still Out Tuesday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hamstring) remains out of action on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. Freddy Fermin will do the catching again for the Royals and will bat sixth against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. Perez is dealing with a Grade 1-plus left-hamstring strain, so he'll miss his second straight game after getting injured in Sunday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's hoping to return to the lineup soon. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. The 33-year-old All-Star backstop has a modest four-game hitting streak going, and although he has just one multi-hit game in the month of July, he's hitting .303 (10-for-33) with no homers, a double, an RBI and three runs scored in 10 games. Get him back into your lineups when he returns to KC's lineup.

Mon Jul 17 202319:19Salvador Perez Dealing With Grade 1 Hamstring Strain
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus left-hamstring strain, but the team is hoping that he can return to the starting lineup soon. Perez was forced from Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with the injury, but it looks like he should be able to avoid a trip to the injured list. Still, fantasy managers must prepare for the worst, and it's possible that the 33-year-old All-Star catcher won't play again for another couple of games. With Perez out again on Monday, Freddy Fermin got the start behind the plate. Perez remains a must-start catcher in fantasy when he's in the lineup. He's hitting .258/.299/.444 on the season with 15 home runs, 40 RBI and 38 runs scored in 322 at-bats.

Mon Jul 17 202317:15Salvador Perez Not In The Lineup On Monday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hamstring) is absent from the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers. This doesn't come as a surprise after Perez was forced to exit early on Sunday due to hamstring issue. The good news is, the team hasn't placed Perez on the injured list, so hopefully it's only a minor issue. In the meantime, Freddy Fermin will do the catching and bat cleanup versus right-hander Matt Manning for Monday's contest.

Sun Jul 16 202316:56Salvador Perez Exits Game On Sunday
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (hamstring) left Sunday's meeting with Tampa. He went 1-for-1 with a run. But Perez was pulled after experiencing discomfort in his left hamstring. The 33-year-old will undergo testing to determine the extent of the ailment. However, Perez may not be available for Monday's opener of the four-game series with the Tigers.
