Tue Nov 21 202314:47Kyle Gibson Agrees To One-Year Deal With Cardinals
Free-agent right-hander Kyle Gibson has agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday that also includes a team option for 2025, according to sources. It's no secret that the Cardinals are desperate for starting arms this offseason, and they've now added a starting pitcher for the second straight day after reuniting with veteran Lance Lynn on Monday. The 36-year-old Gibson went 15-9 for the Baltimore Orioles in 2023 on a one-year deal with a 4.73 ERA (4.13 FIP) and 1.32 WHIP while walking 55 and striking out 157 in 192 innings over 33 starts. Gibson will get away from the difficult American League East and will now join the National League Central after allowing a league-high 198 hits in 2023.

Tue Oct 10 202319:10Kyle Gibson Available Out Of The Bullpen
Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kyle Gibson is reportedly available out of the bullpen for Tuesday's Game 3 against the Texas Rangers. Originally, it sounds like the plan was for the O's to start Gibson in Game 4. However, Baltimore is facing a win-or-go-home situation on Tuesday, so they will take an all-hands-on-deck approach for this contest. The veteran right-hander held a 4.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 157/55 K/BB over 192 innings (33 starts) with the O's during the regular season. He has yet to pitch in during this postseason, but could get his chance on Tuesday.

Sun Sep 24 202316:34Kyle Gibson Picks Up Quality Start, Win
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson moved his record to 15-9 in a 5-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Though underwhelming in all other categories, Gibson has been a good source of wins for deeper and AL-only leagues. He has a 4.86 ERA over 32 games started. Sunday saw the veteran go seven innings, giving up one run, four hits, and one walk, striking out four.

Sat Aug 5 202311:01Kyle Gibson Seeks To Keep Trending Up Versus Mets
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson heads to the mound for Saturday's start versus the New York Mets. The 35-year-old is finding his stride after a recent string of shaky play just in time for a date with the limping Mets who have lost four straight games since gutting their roster at the trade deadline. Gibson takes aim at the struggling club next, and he holds a sharp 2.63 ERA across his last 27.1 innings against the Mets since 2021. The right-hander has logged three consecutive quality starts and is worth deploying in season-long settings while he's throwing well.

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson finished of his first half of the season on a great note. The right-hander went seven innings, allowing two runs, while striking out 11 batters in the 15-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. This 11-strikeout performance matched a career-high for Gibson. The 35-year-old held a 8.24 ERA over his last four starts coming into this game. At least he'll close out the first half of the season with a strong performance.

Wed Jun 7 202312:30Kyle Gibson Fares Well In No-Decision Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson took a no-decision in Tuesday night's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. In five innings of work, Gibson allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out seven. Both of the runs he allowed came in the first inning, but he settled down from there to have a decent outing on the road. The 35-year-old right-hander's seven K's were the most since he had 11 on April 22, and he's allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last six starts. Gibson is now 7-3 on the season with a respectable 3.87 ERA (3.95 FIP), 1.32 WHIP, 25 walks and 54 strikeouts in 76 2/3 innings over 13 starts. Fantasy managers would like more strikeouts, but he'll have a favorable matchup up next against the Kansas City Royals.

Thu May 4 202300:56Kyle Gibson Collects Loss
On Wednesday, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson had a challenging game, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings pitched. He also picked up his first loss of the year. Gibson struggled to get batters out and could not collect a strikeout for the first time in a contest this season. However, the 35-year-old still has ok stats this year, with a 4-1 record, a 4.61 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 41 frames thrown.

Tue Apr 4 202315:13Kyle Gibson Now Starting Tuesday
The Baltimore Orioles announced that right-hander Kyle Gibson will be moved up to start on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers. Gibson had been originally scheduled to start on Wednesday, but he'll be on regular rest on Tuesday because of the off day last Friday. Tyler Wells was scheduled to go on Tuesday, but he was used in relief on Monday. With things moved around, the Orioles could be looking at a bullpen game on Wednesday. In his Opening Day start last Thursday against the Boston Red Sox, Gibson allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three in five innings in a win. The 35-year-old is an innings-eater in fantasy and will be a shaky streaming option against a Rangers team that is hot to begin the season.

Fri Mar 24 202310:07Kyle Gibson Named Opening Day Starter
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson has been named the Opening Day starter. The 35-year-old signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the team over the offseason. He's by far the most experienced pitcher on the staff, so it makes sense that they'd give him the Opening Day nod. He struggled last season in 31 starts with the Philadelphia Phillies. However, Gibson has looked much better this spring, which gives hope for a bounce back campaign. Fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited and view Gibson as a deep league option.

Sat Dec 3 202213:27Orioles Agree With Kyle Gibson
The Baltimore Orioles agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal, pending a physical, with free-agent right-hander Kyle Gibson on Saturday, according to a source. Gibson isn't a big fantasy name, but he should be able to eat some innings for the O's in 2023. The 35-year-old spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, going 10-8 with a 5.05 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.34 WHIP, 144 strikeouts and 48 walks in 167 2/3 innings pitched over his 31 starts. Gibson has a below-average strikeout rate and probably won't fare too well in another hitter-friendly ballpark in the tough American League East. Gibson will likely take up residence at the back of the Orioles starting rotation next season.

Tue Nov 29 202200:08Pirates Interested In Kyle Gibson
The Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly one of the teams interested in free-agent starting pitcher Kyle Gibson, per MLB Network's Jon Heyman. The 35-year-old compiled a 10-8 record with a poor 5.05 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 20.1% strikeout rate in 31 starts with the Phillies in 2022. However, he was a useful fantasy streamer at times throughout the season and had a more encouraging 4.06 SIERA. Gibson's high WHIP and low strikeout numbers have always limited his fantasy upside, and going to a team with a poor offense like the Pirates would further limit his potential fantasy value.

Sat Jul 30 202213:22Kyle Gibson Placed On The Bereavement List
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson has been placed on the bereavement list. The veteran hurler's next scheduled start will occur on Tuesday against the Braves so there's a decent chance he won't end up missing any time. The 34-year-old right-hander has posted a 4.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 84:31 K/BB ratio over 107 2/3 innings (20 starts) on the season. Reliever Mark Appel was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Mon Jun 27 202213:49Kyle Gibson Knocked Out In Third Inning
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson was knocked out after recording just eight outs against the San Diego Padres Sunday, but he was lucky to take a no-decision after the club came back to win 8-5. Gibson allowed five runs on four hits and three walks with just two strikeouts. His ERA rises to 4.48 after the disappointing performance. This start breaks a streak of three consecutive quality starts for the veteran right-hander. Gibson does not strike out enough batters to be a top-end fantasy option, but he's a solid streamable option despite this outing.

Wed May 25 202200:30Kyle Gibson Labors But Pitches Well Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson threw 106 pitches but turned in a decent outing in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Braves. Gibson pitched 5 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. The 34-year-old is now 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA, 45 strikeouts, and 14 walks over nine starts and 48 IP this season. He isn't the flashiest fantasy player, but he has continued to be a useful back-of-the-rotation option and is just 54-percent rostered. His next matchup will be a tougher matchup at the Mets, but he is a viable streaming option in points leagues.

Fri Oct 1 202110:18Kyle Gibson Roughed Up By Braves In Final Start Of 2021
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched to take the loss in his final start of the 2021 campaign. Gibson did pick up seven strikeouts, a rare feat for Gibson who normally relies on ground balls and weak contact as evidenced by his 20% strikeout rate, which is well below league average. The veteran righty finished the season with a 10-9 record, a 3.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 155 strikeouts across 182 innings split between the Rangers and Phillies. He was a solid back-of-the-rotation starter for Philly and fantasy managers alike. With a solid 3.86 FIP and 3.88 expected ERA, there's no reason to project too much regression for Gibson heading into his age-34 season in 2022.

Mon Sep 20 202110:53Kyle Gibson Pitches Well Despite Loss On Sunday Night
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed three runs across 6 2/3 innings but suffered the loss on Sunday Night Baseball against the Mets. Gibson had allowed just two runs through six innings, but served up a home run to Jeff McNeil in the seventh inning which proved to be the difference in the game. Gibson isn't the flashiest fantasy option, but he's got a solid 3.51 ERA supported by a 3.80 expected ERA with opposing batters hitting just .235 against him. Gibson is a viable starter in all fantasy leagues on Friday when he has a strong matchup against the Pirates.

Wed Sep 15 202108:57Kyle Gibson Allows Four Runs To Cubs In Loss
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed four runs across five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Cubs. He collected seven strikeouts to salvage some fantasy value, but it was another rough start for Gibson. The veteran right-hander has now allowed 15 runs in his last three starts, spanning just 15 innings. His 3.49 ERA looks good on the surface, but a 4.24 xFIP implies he's been a tad lucky and fantasy managers should expect a higher ERA moving forward. This combined with a strikeout rate under 20% makes Gibson a risky start in fantasy on Sunday night against the Mets.

Thu Sep 9 202110:25Kyle Gibson Struggles With Control In No-Decision Versus Brewers
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed three runs across just 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Wednesday. Gibson did well to not allow more damage as he allowed seven hits and four walks as he struggled with his control all evening. Gibson has now been hit hard in back-to-back outings and his walk rate is up to an uncharacteristic 8.9 percent. Given his sub-20 percent strikeout rate, Gibson walks a fine line in fantasy as he provides little value if he's not preventing runs as he has no strikeout floor to fall back on. He's a fine deep-league play versus the Cubs next time out, but Gibson is far from a must-start fantasy hurler despite a solid matchup on paper.

Sat Sep 4 202109:28Kyle Gibson Lit Up For Eight Runs At Miami
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson had a rough night in Miami on Friday as he allowed eight earned runs across 5 1/3 innings to the Marlins. Yikes, that's not what fantasy managers were expecting in one of the best matchups you could ask for on paper. That's why they play the games, however, and Miami had its way with Gibson in the veteran's worst start since being acquired by Philly at the trade deadline. Gibson's ERA rose to 3.30 on the season, though his 4.29 xFIP implies more regression could be on the horizon. He'll look to bounce back in a tough matchup in Milwaukee's hitter-friendly ballpark next time out.

Mon Aug 23 202100:16Kyle Gibson Goes Eight In Victory
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson went eight strong innings against the San Diego Padres Sunday, earning his ninth win of the season. He allowed one run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts, lowering his season ERA to 3.06. Gibson has seemed like a major candidate for regression all year long, and it simply hasn't come. After a dreadful opening outing in April, Gibson has failed to complete five innings in a start only five times, and he's only failed to complete five innings once. He's a reliable fantasy option the rest of the way.
